Arsenal’s Beth Mead is on UEFA’s three player shortlist for the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award.
Mead enjoyed a stellar season with Arsenal which saw her voted as the club’s player of the season by both the Arsenal Women Supporters Club and the readers of Arsenal.com.
Beth was a key part of England’s Euro 2022 winning squad too, taking home the Golden Boot, having scored six goals and made five assists, as well as the official Player of the Tournament award.
The Gunners forward is nominated alongside Wolfsburg and Germany’s Lena Oberdorf and Barcelona and Spain’s Alexia Putellas. The winner will be announced at the men’s 2022-23 Champions League group stage draw ceremony on Thursday, 25th August in Istanbul. Congrats to Beth on her nomination (and impending victory).
It’s her’s, surely?!
Surely – it’s the “Marquee” moments that attract the awards but in the case of Beth Mead, her stellar season with Arsenal plus her consistent excellence with the national team equals truly deserving this award 🙂
Even without red-tinted goggles on, she must be the favourite right?
Leah W placing 7th with Millie Bright not in the top 20 seems to be provoking a reaction among the Ch*ls*a fans…
I assume it’s between Beth and Alexia, unless lowest pass completion rate and most fouls are among the criteria.
It’s nothing to do with other clubs. Beth simply was sensational throughout the season, along with her performance and goals at the Euros tournament. Being completely honest, there were other England players who were better over the tournament – including Millie Bright, who IMO was the best player of the Euros, for which I expect (and deserve) to receive a couple of “minuses” But defenders rarely win awards, and anyway Meado truly deserves it 🙂
I’ll be honest I think Millie Bright made too many potentially costly mistakes in the final to be considered player of the tournament for the euros but also as an arsenal fan I might be too quick to jump on her mistakes. She was very good and I’m actually surprised not to see her even on the shortlist.
Yes the Euros final was not Bright’s best performance
Yes, Bright was excellent, but I think rather than single out one CB, it was the pairing of her & Leah that really worked (and I’d add Earps into that too ) – way better understanding than Bright & Houghton ever had, and complement each other’s style of playing (one of them tends to be excellent at something the other is only very very good at). Bright tended to attract more attention because of some of her more physical interventions (esp with her head). No matter how many times you recover the ball without having to tackle, it simply doesn’t… Read more »
CONGRATULATIONS TO HER. Hope she wins 🏆 🙏🏾. COYG
Amazing go Beth!
Well-deserved.
On Fire!
If they favor Champions League its Putellas but if the Euros then Beth wins
You mean the Champions League that Barca got dicked in the final of? If that’s their basis then it should be a Lyon player instead of Putellas that’s up for it
Specifically Hegerberg!
Love Beth, She is an utter joy to watch play. She plays with such freedom and skill. Hope she wins as she deserves it.
Who on earth has downvoted this! I’m incredulous!
Someone’s just downvoted every comment.
My guess is someone from the spuds.
Beth Mead should be a shoo in for this award. Good luck to her!
She has to win, as good as Alexia is she didn’t even play in the euros
And lost the UWCL final.
