Derby games aren’t anything new to Gabriel Jesus. All the same, it’s good to hear that his Arsenal teammates have been ramming home the importance of winning tomorrow’s north London derby.
While others have spent a couple of weeks distracted by international duty, our summer signing has been training at London Colney where all anyone can talk about is getting one over our neighbours.
“All the players are talking about the derby,” Jesus told ESPN. “It’s all about the derby. ‘You’re going to see what a derby is. Derby, derby…'”
I’ve had some experience of derbies, like when I played for Palmeiras, [Manchester] City and Brazil.
“I know what a derby is, but I never played one Arsenal versus Tottenham here. So, it will be my first and I hopefully to get the win, not only in my first but all the derbies that I will play.”
While Arsenal come into the game sitting top of the table, Sp*rs remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season and are hot on our heels just one point behind.
Antonio Conte’s squad are also on a run of eight games unbeaten away from home in the league, stretching back to March.
If that makes you nervous, it’s worth remembering that we’re on a six-game winning streak at the Emirates; our best home run since Unai Emery’s first season in charge.
On a personal level, Jesus has something to prove against Sp*rs having only scored once against them in nine appearances.
Now that he’s getting more of the ball, maybe that will change.
“It is different here at Arsenal,” he said. “The football is different — different players, different ways to play.
“At City, it was different. The striker didn’t touch the ball that much, you see this by watching the games. And, when it was time to touch the ball, it was not the striker, because [Guardiola] ended up putting a midfielder to come closer. OK, fine. So, I decided to change.
He added: “I talked a lot with Arteta about Arsenal’s style. He knows me, I know him, I understood what he wanted from me. Now, I’m free on the pitch, playing football with a smile on my face and trying to do my best all the time.”
Love him. “I hopefully get the win, not only in my first but all the derbies that I will play.”
He is a stone cold killer The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the linesman and the tyranny of eVAR men. Blessed is he who, in the name of closing down and good positioning , shepherds the ball through the valley of the darkness. For Ramsdale is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of the lofted pass. And I will strike down upon thee with great timing and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my… Read more »
The most important derby in the world, Jesus. And it’s between a shit team, and the most beautiful club in the whole world.
You’re on the beautiful side ❤️
Your first NLD experience will be a pleasant one. You will score, and we will bag the three points.
Got him as my captain in my Fantasy League Premiership team.
I’ll captain Xhaka on mine. Ridiculously cheap for a number 8
Halaand all the way, no one can beat the Neanderthal
It sounds like the players are as excited as us fans. This is good. This game means a lot. Yet, it is merely a stepping stone in our quest to greatness. COYG
Love the part at the end when he mentions how he plays with a smile.
I hope he realizes the smiles he’s putting on our faces when he’s on the ball.
Jesus will deliver
I see a Jesus brace tomorrow.
Get through this and Liverpool and we’re on for a good season
It would be very encouraging if we could get the points (or at least most of them) in those games – but it won’t be easy as we found out against Utd. Everyone will need to be on top form and avoid the mistakes that cost us dearly at Old Trafford where our overall performance merited a better result than we got. Fingers crossed.
I think the Liverpool one will be the easier of the two games.
Mate, it wasn’t mistakes that cost us up at Old Toilet – it was VAR.
If Martinelli’s goal stands, we go on to win that match, no question.
Get six points from the Spuds and the Phlegm Spouters – and we’re serious title contenders, end of.
We owe those trophy dodging utter wannabe scum bags, big time.
Here’s to stuffing them out of sight by eight, nine or ten – to inflict pain upon them like they’ve never experienced before in their truly pathetic existence. The scum.

I may be wrong, but I detect that you don’t like them…
Someone should ask him what he thinks of them
I don’t normally like you but you’re spot on for once. COYG
Interesting to see how he performs in his first NLD. Clearly, it’s a game we can’t afford to lose given where City and Sp*rs are in the table so let’s hope he can follow up his goal against Brentford with another one (or two or more, let’s not be stingy) tomorrow.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t get booked as he’ll miss the Scousers I believe…!! Granit will get booked, that’s a given… either way COYG
Correct, he’s on 4 yellows. Better get one against Liverpool, or even better if he can do so at Leeds
The possibility will be playing on my mind all game. I actually wonder if Conte will use it in his pre-game team-talk, knowing that Jesus won’t risk making a tackle.
Wow. This boy is no longer a robot under Artetaball- he’s free to live(play) again.😄
Keep it up jesus, got massive respect for you
Why are they all interested in a horse race?
