Premier League

Arsenal took the spoils in a pulsating north London derby with a 3-1 win at Emirates Stadium.

Harry Kane’s penalty cancelled out Thomas Partey’s long-range opener in an end-to-end first half but Antonio Conte’s side collapsed after the break when Gabriel Jesus restored the advantage and Emerson Royal received a straight red card.

Granit Xhaka added a gloss to proceedings with a fine third for the Gunners who stay top of the Premier League courtesy of the three points.

Pre-game

Mikel Arteta made two changes to the side that started the win over Brentford. The return to fitness of Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko meant that Fabio Vieira and Kieran Tierney made way. Despite sitting out Ghana’s two friendly matches during the Interlull, Thomas Partey was fine to anchor the midfield. An experienced bench included Reiss Nelson for the first time this season.

First Half

It was an electric start from Arsenal. Feeding off the buzzing atmosphere, the men in red immediately sprung up the pitch with neat, intricate and pacey passing. Inside three minutes, Martinelli had hit the post with a low effort and Lloris had been put under heavy pressure from a long throw and a corner. Soon after Xhaka tried an audacious flick trying to convert a floated ball over the defence. It went just wide.

The noise was deafening and Sp*rs looked flustered as they repeatedly gave the ball away trying to play out of defence. The game was almost entirely played in and around Lloris’ box. Martinelli buzzed around full of energy, Odegaard worked pockets of space, Saka probed. We looked good but had nothing to show for it.

Completely against the run of play, Ramsdale was forced into an excellent save to deny Richarlison. The chance came to the Brazilian from a free-kick dinked into the area that saw Sp*rs beat our offside trap. It was never a foul in the first place so it would have been a travesty had we fallen behind.

The Gunners went back on the front foot and Xhaka flashed wide from range. Conte’s team were compact, deep and disciplined and likely didn’t mind us shooting from range. You felt it was going to take something special to break the deadlock and on 20 minutes, that’s exactly what happened.

The Gunners made 22 passes in the build-up, carefully working the ball across the pitch before Saka gave it to White who teed up Partey to curl home from 24 yards. The Ghanaian’s long-range shooting has been anything but convincing since he signed from Atletico but on this occasion, he wrapped his foot around the ball and beautifully found the top corner. It was postage stamp stuff and nothing less than we deserved. (GOAL 1-0)

In the corresponding fixture last season, the floodgates opened for Arsenal but under Conte, Sp*rs’ are a more canny outfit. They didn’t panic, continued to sit deep and gradually grew more confident on the counter-attack, as evidenced by Perisic bounding up the left flank and flashing wide.

On 29 minutes, another break indirectly led to an equaliser.  It looked as though the danger had gone when Richarlison’s cross was headed clear but Xhaka miscontrolled the loose ball and the Brazilian won it back, took a touch that lured in Gabriel and collapsed to the ground as his compatriot took out his ankles. Referee Anthony Taylor had no hesitation pointing to the spot and Kane promptly put Ramsdale on his arse sending the penalty straight down the middle. It was his seventh goal from the spot in the derby. (GOAL 1-1)

Arsenal have been good this season at compartmentalising disappointment and striking back quickly. On this occasion, we looked rattled by the equaliser. Saliba had to tidy up as visitors mounted another break and Ramsdale had to slap away a corner that troubled him on his line. Gabriel and Ramsdale both then put us under pressure with sloppy passing and Kane got his head to a Perisic cross as Sp*rs mounted another counter.

Three minutes before the break. Jesus showed incredible quick feet to dance past Emerson and Dier before toe poking and effort that Lloris charged down. The Brazilian’s efforts weren’t just in the attacking third, he also worked back harder than anyone.

Second Half

Four minutes after the restart, we restored our advantage. Saka was the catalyst cutting in off the right and firing low at Lloris. The France international parried the ball into Romero whose touch directed the ball back towards goal. As the keeper tried in vain the rectify his error, Jesus tapped home from on the line. (GOAL 2-1).

Jesus should have grabbed his second with our next attack but headed wide with the goal gaping after White had picked him out with a pinpoint cross into the six-yard box. Worryingly, the Brazilian stayed down after landing awkwardly and required treatment. He was fine to continue and tested Lloris with another header as Xhaka found him with a repeat of the ball that led to his goal at Brentford.

Life got harder for Sp*rs just past the hour mark as Emerson Royal took out his frustration on Martinelli’s ankle. Our winger was running back towards his own goal when his compatriot unnecessarily raked studs down his ankle. Taylor took a few moments to make his decision before reaching for a red card. It was thoroughly deserved.

We could smell blood. Saka fired just wide. We went again. Partey fed Martinelli, he ran at the box, laid off to Xhaka and the Swiss dispatched a low drive past Lloris. Have. Some. Of. That. As Xhaka was mobbed the home support serenaded the players with “We are top of the league”. (GOAL 3-1)

Conte underlined his displeasure with the situation by making four substitutions, removing, amongst them, Son and Richarlison and sending on a load of defenders to limit the damage. Arteta responded by replacing Zinchenko and Partey with Lokonga and Tierney. Nketiah and Vieira followed soon after as Odegaard and Jesus earned a breather with 12 minutes remaining.

The closing stages were all about keeping the away side at arm’s length and seeing if we could add a fourth. As the clock ticked down and the threat diminished, things grew scrappy. Saliba and Martinelli earned bookings, time was wasted and the visiting fans were baited for sneaking off early.

Tierney nearly grabbed a stunner of a fourth with a venomous effort in stoppage time that Lloris palmed away for a corner and with pretty much the final kick, Martinelli curled over a free-kick. And that was that.

A glorious day at the office, seven wins from eight so far this season and a decent platform to build on ahead of this crazy month of fixtures. Come on you Gunners. North London is Red.

My engine has overheated and I don’t even care right now. What a day!

C.B.

A win versus Sp*rs, no yellow card for Jesus, referee giving a fair decision for us, top of the league. A great day at the office!

Brady’s bunch

Kane is a snide c**t

Emi Rates

Does Mr Openmouth Eternal score goals other than penalties nowadays?

Brady’s bunch

Does he ever get a card??

Emi Rates

He has as many cards as he has trophies.

Henkamp

Worth repeating. Good win for Arteta after all the subtle digs Cunt-e has thrown his way during press conferences.

Qwaliteee

A trophyless snide cunt. 😉 👍🍺🍺

jeremy13

They let him do whatever he wants.

Johnny 4 Hats

Let’s be real. We haven’t really beaten sides like this before.

Whether it’s Jose or Conte or fucking big Sam, we’ve really struggled against this anti football bullshit.

This is massive. We can destroy a low block. We can hold our own to the counter.

This is a new Arsenal. We’ve known it for a while. And now others are starting to understand why we’ve been so positive for a long time now.

Receipts are being cashed.

Watch out world, we’re coming.

COYG!!!!

Zadok the Regular Dishwasher Salesman

I think what’s really positive is that we did it against a team that have a top-level counter-attacking front line. There aren’t many teams in the world who play this style that have better forwards than Sp*rs, so if we can see off Kane, Son and Richarlison it bodes very well for our upcoming attempts to throttle the rest of the league.

Emi Rates

Top-level diving in the box front line more like.

Usmanov

Said it sometime last year that this Arsenal team could be Man City level scary by the end of next season (this season) going by the progression we are seeing. But I understand why people would be unwilling to entertain that thought.

Qwaliteee

Nice one J4H. My thoughts exactly. This was more than just three points against the trophy dodgers.

This was a marker and a message to the rest of the Premiership.

Beat the phlegm spouters next week and we have to be considered nailed-on title contenders, no question.

Merlin’s Panini

Regarding Conte, I disagree. We routinely tormented his Chelsea side. He won one game in 8, losing 4. So far at Spurs he’s played 2, won 1, lost 1.
Fat Sam also didn’t have that good a record against us either. His smug attitude after games where he occasionally got a point or won just stuck in the memory. He won 6 games in 36, losing 22.
Mourinho was a pain in our ass though and I won’t recount his stats because it annoys me.

Trixie Popsicle

Ass? Was there a donkey about?!

Badaab

he came on for wolves in the second half today

Maniac

Handing Sp*rs their first defeat of the season is, oh, so sweet.

Fatgooner

Take that, you scum!!!!

Prakhar

Tottemham Hotscums

Qwaliteee

Nice one Fats! 🍺 👍 😂

Collibosher

Wow! An opportunity to click “Like” on a Fatgooner post!! Not passing that one up, I can tell you.

Boy Bastin

Sunshine at The Emirates, and on the pitch as well. Well done all.

Spanish Gooner

William Saliba what a fookin player

Fabulous

The interception on Romero when 2 on 1 was absolutely marvelous

Sakatatties

Love our big Willy. Partey was a different class today too.

Gooner7190

As cool as a cucumber in an igloo. Gabriel should ask him for some pointers

Thierry Bergkamp (non negotiable)

Nutmegging players in his own box. What a cunt

A M

now now, it’s ONLY sp*ds you know…
COYG

A M

also no yellow card for jesus! lovely bonus, he won’t miss the pool game

Thierry Bergkamp (non negotiable)

Only just noticed he did the Henry slide. Legend in the making

Gooner7190

Next week is the real test. 1 win in 30 years at our place means Spurs are never a test this end of the Seven Sisters but the Spurs fans will have you believe they are. Can’t wait to hear what O’Hara has to say on TalkShite on Monday, I assume it’ll be along the lines of “The red card changed the game & it’s never a red anyway”

Tomaury Bischfeld

Tottenham Hotspur, you’ll always be shit.

Emi Rates

Seeing them bitch at the ref straight after the final whistle speaks volumes. So they lost a game. Had they been hard done by? Not fucking likely! They were beaten fair and square by a team who, unlike them, played football.

Sore losers!

Gooner7190

What did Conte say back in May?

“I know Mikel is new to this job but he should focus more on his team & less on criticising the ref”

Maybe Don Antonio should follow his own advice. Claiming in Italy the VAR would’ve overturned the red. I watch the Serie A highlights weekly & Ive seen them give some soft penalties via VAR but no VAR anywhere on this planet is overturning a blatant stamp like that

Emi Rates

Well said! Maybe someone can recommend Conte to shut his big mouth and try getting his team to play football next time instead. He’ll get more respect that way. No one likes a man who dishes it out but turns into a cry baby the moment it happens to him.

AusGunner

Credit where it’s due, that was pretty well refereed

Saliba was *excellent*

Kareem

First half was disappointing.
Ignored two fouls on Odegaard (similar to Odegaard’s foul on Eriksen a few weeks back) and they were awarded a few soft free kicks.
But second half was a very different story.

Gooner7190

I still can’t believe Jenas’ bias led him to say Emerson (not so) Royal tripping over thin air was more of a foul than Romero going through Ødegaard seconds earlier. Should really go to Specsavers & get those shit tinted glasses changed

Jack

Conte’s mind must have been blown when he suddenly had to play only 9 men in defence instead of 10 when Emerson Royal got sent off

Fatgooner

😂

Couldn’t believe how negative Conte became with those substitutions

loose_cannon

Conte really said “no mas” with those subs!

Paul

He said the game was over on 70 mins. He was right.

Qwaliteee

Damage limitation. We’d have had five or six otherwise.

Badaab

did he have any offensive players on the bench? i think every one of them started or was injured

Merlin’s Panini

They’re all pretty offensive if you ask me

Gooner7190

Their only attacker was Bryan Gil & even Conte saw him standing on the touch line ready to come on & thought ‘Fuck that, I’m not *that* desperate to get back in the game’ so made him sit back down

FMT

After that red, Tottenham gave up the ghost…🤣

karl

A great team performance, but Saliba just stands out as real quality.

Steinn

Saliba and Partey just immense.

Brady’s bunch

Beast, throw the kitchen sink at him to sign he’s going to be the best in the league

Paulinho

Tottenham Hotspur you will always be…

Emi Rates

…classless, trophyless and shit.

Fatgooner

Fully deserved win. We controlled it from start to finish.

Fantastic team performance but Martinelli MOTM

Only negative was our failure to keep a clean sheet. We just need to keep our concentration at the back.

Excellent weekend already!!!

UzesGooner

Can you officially like Arteta now?

Wengerball

Partey was MOTM

Tapps

Wow! Two upvotes for FG in quick succession! For me, Martinelli was the difference.

Deano

Fantastic result against the media darlings.

Xhaka really is a new man, his performances this season have been exceptional and Saliba, just wow what a player we have. Priority to tie him down long term.

Top of the table and just watching the rest.

tbrwsk

it’s like we finally figured he’s an offensive mid rather than a DMC. he’s playing quite similarly to how Rambo used to play – and i think he has been doing that for his national team for ages.

oh man, the Arsenal is well and truly back. you love to see how well drilled this group is, and at no expense of creativity!

Bill

Spot on, Xhaka has played like that for Switzerland for years. Never should have been a DM, doesn’t suit his limitations at all and didn’t play to his strengths at all. We wasted him for 6 years.

Collibosher

It has often been said that Xhaka is not the quickest, but players who don’t rely on sheer speed can often play well into their 30s. If he can keep playing like this, he could be here for some time!

Gooner7190

Words I never thought I’d say but Granit is a current favourite player. What a redemption story from him. He was my MOTM but everybody was great

Vieiraera

Everything to love about today. But what I love most is the older more experienced players – TP and GX having a blinder today, not forgetting Jesus who never stops menacing defenders!! What a day to be a gooner😍

“…Jesus who never stops menacing defenders”. To be fair, Jesus menaces opposition strikers just as well while doing the defensive stuff. What a player!!!

loose_cannon

IT’S IN DA HISTORY OF DA TOTTENHAM EH?? COYG!!!

loose_cannon

Also, does Arteta deserve more credit with what he’s done with Granit Kaka? Sensational again today.

wrightstuff8

Granit Kaka 🤣

Sheldon

Partey is just majestic in midfield. The opposition scatters when he has the ball, scared to be embarrassed. Really commanding performance.

Ramsdil

Shout out to ramsdale for keeping us in the handsgame at 1-1

Emi Rates

Have THAT you dirty spud cunts!

Man Manny

Great win. Liverpool next. More of the same.

Brady’s bunch

Happy fucking days 😊😊❤️

assistantref

Nothing sweeter than watching Kane whining and crying to the referee on the final whistle about one of the most obvious red cards you’ll see this season.

turcofeo

Ref: “He could’ve broken Martinelli’s ankle”
Kane: “But did he?! DID HE?!”

Qwaliteee

Fucking window licker.

He got his customary freebie penalty against us – what more does he want?

Two years and he will be the all original over the hill busted flush and finished.

Hopefully with as many club winners medals as Chris Waddle = 0.

FMT

🤣🤣🤣
👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽

Emi Rates

Ref: “Harry, just because YOU have been granted an immunity to cards doesn’t mean it extends to the rest of your team. OK?”

Kane: “THAT IS SO UNFAIR!!?”

Abhi

Harry: ruh fuda but ruff
Ref: eh?
Harry: Buda fuh but mug
Ref: err yea ok Harry
Harry: guh fuh mm duh
Ref: …….

Flashman71

😅😅😅😅

Emi Rates

Sir, you win Comment Of The Day Award!

RockyRog58

I’m really really REALLY HAPPY !!!

Boy Bastin

So, H.A.P.P.Y sums it up then.

YoungGun

This team looks so good and strong. Not one bad performance in the league, even in the loss. Yea the league know we’re serious this season. Bye bye Sp**s

Paul

So true – not one bad performance. We are starting to look like Man City! Strange that?? 🙂

Dada

With whitley Neill in me, allow me to say Fuck Conte, Fuck Turds and Hallelujah to the spirit of the Gooners!

Tomaury Bischfeld

Who knew we’d be giving another Royal a send off so soon

Collibosher

You win the internet today!!

Qwaliteee

Even I had to smile at that one.

Clever. 👏

Top marks to every last one of the lads today, but just how good can William Ice-In-His-Veins Saliba become?

Paulinho

Such a coolness about him with the ball at his feet even in his own box under pressure, remarkable

flash

he might even be too good. they reality (and my nightmare) is that he can probably play for literally any team he wants

flash

the*

Paul

Well lets keep at the top of the best league in the world then. Simple.

Doctor Perceptron

He’s currently playing for the best team in the EPL. Where else would he want to go?

flash

I appreciate the sentiment but even if we win the league you know what can / will happen if some of Europe’s big boys come knocking..

tbrwsk

and kudos to the club again, you’d suspect it’s much down to the season he spent at marseille.

easily growing into one of the favs. crucial that we extend his deal.

OdalGooner

I love him – but I’m a bit tired of media talking about him and Martinelli being great talents, and with such potential. Oh shut up, they’re both already absolute class. I’ll enjoy that, thankyouverymuch. Martinelli is taking the piss out of any defence, and Saliba is an absolute monster. Enjoy it now. Hopefully they’ll improve, but seriously, they’re more than good enough as they are.

It’s like me telling my girlfriend and mother of my child that “Oh, you’ll really be a great mom one day!”

John

Steve Perryman, Simon Mayo, Oswaldo Ardiles, Danny Blanchflower, Chas, Dave, Lesley King, Michael McIntryre, Gary Mabbut, Teddy Sheringham… Your boys took one hell of a beating today.

Paul

Love that!

Emi Rates

Seeing Simon Raymonde from Cocteau Twins and Lush are Spuds fans is heartbreaking but some compensation is provided by Chavdele and the utter cunt that is Ian Duncan Smith also being among their supporters. I think IDS might even be on par with the association we suffer through Pierce Morgan.

K9ine

That was fun.

IAmGooner

I just knew we were going to win today. I’ve had a great week. Bagged a new job, had some positive X-Ray results back, and took the Jackpot out the gambler yesterday. Fuck T*ttenham, up the Arse. GOONERS!!!!!!!

Ricky

Congrats on the week Gooner!

flash

bit of a battering really. Individual error for their goal (imo at least) and they didn’t come particularly close otherwise. not sure if that early effort would have been called offside but solid save anyway. beautiful. also, no booking for jesus!

TotsOfJack

Death, taxes, and Harry Kane penalties against us. God, I can’t stand that lot.

Gooner7190

Feels like they’ve got more penalties at Emirates since 2006 then we have!

Todd Rankin

Kane should have been sent off for intentionally running into and kicking Gabriel while he was down!

Scrubbychubby

Yes, I noticed that! Gabriel went down and he clearly went out of his way to kick him. It was barely mentioned. He really is a dirty fucker.

Baz

Eat a big fat dick Kane you cunt

Duno

Fucking get in! This was such an enjoyable watch. It says a lot about who we are this season that I wasn’t overly worried when they scored. Also, we are winning the league if Partey stays fit, aren’t we? 👀

Abhi

The sound explosion from the stands when Granit’s goal goes in made my hairs stand. AHH to be an Arsenal fan right now! ❤

Qwaliteee

That’s the loudest I’ve heard the Emirates.

Qwaliteee

Wonderful result – fucking awesome! Loads of great performances all over the pitch; Xhaka my Man of the Match, absolutely immense, Partey’s goal the kind you dream of in this game, Saka and Martinelli a constant nuisance on each wing and the main man up front scores again. Elsewhere, a solid performance from the boys at the back, Ramsdale unlucky with the window-licker’s penalty. They will be gutted, Conte, Son, the window-licker, Richarlison, the fucking lot of of them. They can all fuck off back to their toilet home and the pointless empty trophy cabinet and their dvds of last… Read more »

North London is focking RED…

Heavenly Chapecoense

You can buy Haaland and whoever you want. We will win the title.

gunnertron

CHAPEAU!!!

Leon

Its only Spurs.
Sorry I just had to say that after the response to all of our wins this season.
Its only Spurs.
Its only Spurs.

The Gunner

And we haven’t beaten anybody above us in the table 😁

Paul

The way the team and the crowd started that game meant there was only one winner today and that was always going to be The Arsenal. Well played!

Jipster

Best team in a decade. We’re back.

Dennis Elbow

Calm down lads and ladettes. It was only Totteringham.😄😄

UzesGooner

XHAKA is an Arsenal love story 👏

Brady’s bunch

Make up football is the best football 😂

UzesGooner

He’s certainly hitting the spot 🤣

TheOkester

Special props to our ball boy. More than once mugged off Sanchez when they were trying to take a throw in. Class.

AusGunner

Also, White leisurely strolling off in front of the severely thinned out away section. absolute mad lad.

Merlin’s Panini

An almost perfect day. The inevitable mandatory Kane penalty just ruined it that little bit. I’m so glad he’s approaching 30. Shouldn’t have to bear him for too much longer, hopefully.
Great win today! We’re looking very good for top 4.

AFL

Aaaawwwww what a beautiful day it was. Loved every second of it but that moment right after our third goal when Saliba and Gabriel combined in their box and Saliba nutmeged one of the Spuds in the proceeding was just icing on the cake 😁

Brady’s bunch

Add to that Dier and Kane having words with the ref at the end 🙏

Up North

Brilliant! But this NLD’s are bot good for my mental health. A top performance of the lads. If I should point to something to improve , defensive structure against counterattack teams, more decisive offensivenly, all goals doesn’t need to be a piece of art and Martinelli must learn to pass to teammates.
My ambition is still top 4, this young team will hit something hard om their way, but still on top!

Elad Goldman

Watched with my 10yo twins. 7.30am in the US. Got our shirts just 2 days ago. My daughter in the pink wearing Saka. My son wearing Ramsdale. Myself in Odegard home kit. Screamed bloody murder and cheered throughout. Woke up the neighbors several times I’m sure. None of us breathed or blinked for the first 45. Glorious day. So happy to come up on top. So happy to have had this huge experience with the kiddos. Thank you Arsenal. Thank you Super Mik. The man with the plan. Champions league starting to feel like a fo shu. Championship? Is it… Read more »

Public Elneny Number One

I hung my laundry out to dry before the game and i asked the gods that be not to let it rain before half time. When i checked at half time it had indeed rained. As i pulled my washing in i said “gods if you can’t grant me dry washing can you at least grant us a win?”
I thank the gods of laundry for today.
