Arsenal Women agree deal to sign Victoria Pelova from Ajax

Arsenal Women have agreed a deal to sign Dutch winger Victoria Pelova in the winter transfer window. The 23-year-old is considered one of the hottest young properties in Europe.

The Netherlands international was part of the recent Euros squad and she can play as a number 10 or as a wide forward. There was preliminary interest in Pelova during the summer but the player signed a one-year contract extension with Ajax as she wanted to finish her studies in Amsterdam.

Her studies having concluded, she has now agreed a deal to sign with the Gunners having secured a qualification in applied Mathematics.

Jonas Eidevall always planned to add another forward in the transfer window even before the injuries to Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema but those injury situations expedited the need for the signing.

Fun Gunner

Welcome to the Arsenal, Victoria Pelova. Here’s to a long and successful association with the best club in the world.

Matt

Great signing and very excited to see her develop. It’s wonderful to see young talent coming to the club. I’m keeping my fingers crossed Kathrine Kuhl also joins and am curious to see whether Gio will be returning from Everton.

From the list of players we have been linked with is she most likely to play in Mead’s position?

She is more an attacking mid than a forward. That is her more natural position. I’m a fan of Pelova, she is good and strong with the ball, but if Eidevall thinks she can replace Mead I think he and the fans will be disappointed. She has played wide forward quite a bit–but I don’t think she excels in the role. She is not all that pacey. I don’t know how much she’s scored for Ajax, but she’s not been much of a scorer for the Dutch National Team, though she’s a valuable player. As I say, she is good… Read more »

Well I hope we sign someone else with pace then if that’s the case

I think if she plays on the wing, it will be as an inverted playmaking winger. Will be a different style. May not have the pace, but has the energy and legs to run and dribble. We dont really have strong dribblers otherwise.

Michael

Quality signing and ticks many boxes being quite versatile. Welcome to Arsenal Women, can’t wait to see you the shirt.

Marieke

Great sign. Daan has often said she sees a lot of herself in Vicky. Bit rebellious, cheeky… she’s a lot of fun off the pitch too. As you stated, Tim, stayed for a bit to finish her study. Smart move I think. Great talent and I think she can really grow at Arsenal. And also, The Hague represent! 😉

She has Bulgarian roots, doesn’t she? I was long waiting to see a Bulgarian with the Arsenal shirt!

Tim Stillman

Yes, her mother is Bulgarian.

Roeland Gelink

Playing as a number 10 (and only as a number 10) she scored 28 goals and had 37 assists in 78 matches for ADO Den Haag.

Chrishgooner

Combatative, quick footed, all action, goalscoring midfielder. Reminds me of…….🤔
