Arsenal winger Marquinhos will spend the second half of the season on loan at Norwich City, according to a report.
The 19-year-old winger, who has made six appearances for the Gunners since signing from Sao Paulo in the summer, will move to Carrow Road in the next 24 hours with a view to helping the Championship outfit secure a place in the playoffs.
Described as “one for the future” when he arrived in London, it was thought the Gunners would loan Marquinhos immediately. However, following an impressive pre-season, Arsenal’s failed pursuit of Raphinha and an untimely injury to Reiss Nelson, the decision was taken to keep him around.

That decision was justified when the player scored and registered an assist on his debut in the 2-1 win over FC Zurich in the Europa League.
“He’s earned the respect and admiration of everybody here,” said Arteta afterwards.
Since that high point, the Brazilian has had to feed off scraps and has played only 8 minutes since mid-October. Having recruited Leandro Trossard from Brighton, a loan move at this stage definitely makes sense.
Norwich appointed David Wagner as head coach at the start of the month and they’ve started to rescue a season that was threatening to go off the rails with two wins in their last two games.
Good to see him get a better chance of playing, hope he comes back stronger and more likely to get a game. He has a lot to compete against, Saka, Trossard, Martinelli, ESR.
Yeah, I think we’ve played this really well.
We’ve given him 6 months to acclimatise and get used to Arsenal football club and England. He’s even played some minutes and scored a goal.
But now it’s about him getting used to English football on the reg.
Very glad it’s Norwich and not Braga or Feyenoord… Let’s hope he can force his way into their side and push them to promotion.
I think he’s a better player than we think he is. Just a little too raw at the moment.
He’s shown he’s got something about him, but also he’s not quite there yet for the first team, he’s looked very impressive at u23 level, a senior team at a lower level is just what he needs right now
Let’s hope he can follow in the footsteps of our previous Norwich loanee, David Bentley.
A loan to Norwich did wonders for David Bentley.
Good move for him.especially with a ball playing team like Norwich.i hope he comes bk better.all the best!.
So who is going to be saka understudy ? Or since were out of fa cup now ,the coming matches will be played by majorly first team players i guess since were in the knockout stage of europa .
I guess Vieira or Trossard can play there. Heck even Eddie when GJ is back up front.
When is Nelson back?
Lokonga may need a loan move as well if adequate cover is found for Partey. He clearly needs regular playing time.
Agreed, though don’t reckon he is suited to DM, he is more of a Xhaka cover.
I suspect we’ll just ride out the season with Elneny and Lokonga as cover.
Elneny is injured.
Yes but not confirmed for how long.
https://www.kingfut.com/2023/01/26/mohamed-elneny-miss-rest-season-arteta/
That would be suicidal and I don’t think we operate with a death wish. Our ineptitude last winter break was costly – we don’t need to repeat it. Splash the cash on Caicedo and let’s get it on.
We’ve have two bids rejected from Brighton, I don’t see that one getting over the line.
Trolley dash options;
Zubimendi appears to have a buy out clause for around £52m / €60m.
Onana from Everton maybe but they just sold Gordon so probably won’t sanction another big departure.
Perhaps Jefferson Lerma; 6 months left on contract, knows the Premier League. Could be a Trossard style under-the-radar player to beef up the squad.
Internal solution – if both TP and Elneny are missing – is Xhaka at DM and then ESR or Trossard at #8.
Which is not ideal but far from suicidal.
Quick update on Lokonga – Monaco were reported to have made a bid for him (at £7 million) which was rejected by Arsenal, but not on the grounds of the amount so much as there being no conclusion to negotiations with Brighton over Caicedo.
Good move for him. Interesting to see if he actually returns after the loan. There’s a report that Arsenal are hoping to sell several players in the summer window which makes sense given the additions (and possible additions) in this window.
Cedric, Pepe, Mari, Maitland-Niles, and Runarsson (remember him) will surely all be sold/released.
Interested to see what we decide to do with Tavares.
But Marquinhos no way, he looks really good, could be Saka’s backup next season.
Makes sense. Does this suggest Nelson is close to a return?
Nelson is back running
I BELIEVE IN RN
I too believe in right now, but Mik says the boy is one for the future
Can’t see him succeeding here. He’s been average the few times I’ve seen him play. Not skillful and lacks pace as a winger. Will be tough getting minutes in the team.
You’ve watched him play only a few times, you say, yet you are making such definitive statements.
Don’t you think your sample size is too small?
Yes, I agree that we have to be careful with judgements -either way – with little or no evidence.
Although this will get negative comments, I can’t help thinking it’s a little premature for some Gooners to be making comments like “superb buy” and “money well spent” about, for example, Kiwior’s recent transfer before he’s kicked a ball for us at all. A non-existent sample size there.
“A superb buy” might mean many things: the age bracket; the price paid; the potential impact based on previous club performance, and more.
Besides, when it comes to new players, optimism trumps pessimism any day. I mean, why would you put money on a player you don’t expect to come good?
Optimism trumps pessimism any day… Well, not if you are Boy Bastin clearly. As fans you wish every player that comes into the club will make an impact. Yet be realistic. I think Marquinhos has nothing to be ashamed of based on the last six months. In fact, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with a player we all knew wasn’t one for the present.
I strongly suspect that those comments didn’t have much, if anything to do with those criteria but simply that Arsenal had signed him. I’m sure we do expect every signing to come good but expecting and actually coming good is what I’m really talking about. Also, I’m not sure how your criteria square with our reported latest bid for Caicedo? The bid, rejected, is apparently over £70 million all in for – let’s face it – nobody had much heard of outside Brighton only months ago and that (even) Chelsea valued at “only” around £55 million. I guess what I’m… Read more »
Sure, people judge too quickly. But Kiwior was a regular for a Serie A team, and for Poland. That’s different than a genuine unknown like Marquinhos who almost no Arsenal supporters ever saw play before he arrived. (And someone like Trossard–experienced and often very impressive in the Premier League–is different still.)
True, but that doesn’t guarantee that Kiwior will be a success – as some presumably think by their comments. I really hope he will be a success but at the moment nobody knows.
Albeit under different management teams, the same arguments that you’re making for Kiwior were made (and more so) for a number of players from Mustafi to Pepe. I don’t see too much of them in respect of Caicedo though, and we could still eclipse the Pepe transfer record for him. Just saying.
Only 19, give him a chance to grow and improve!
Success is not linear. Not everyone is a Martinelli I use him because of cultural similarities. He seems a good egg. We. Don’t want a Gnarby MKII.
Good move. Hopefully he’ll get some proper minutes and come back to compete. The best we can hope for him is to emulate Patino or Balogun.
Did we check if we can sell him for 500’000’000 plus add ons and buy back ect.
Good luck mate, do it like Balogun
Yes. That would be to the Chavs for a 20-year contract.
Marquinos won’t come back. I expect him to be sold. Edu should have pursued his team mate Endrick instead.
Give it a rest Howard
I’m suspecting that you said/thought the same thing – with the same level of certainty – when Smith Rowe -> Huddersfield, Nketiah -> Leeds, Ballard -> Millwall, Wilshere -> Bolton and so on. And granted, you’d have been correct about Ballard… but oh so wrong about all the others.
He’s always smiling and cheering the boys after the final whistle.
Makes a lot of sense, playing under pressure for Norwich as they look for promotion will only help in his development.
Let’s hope he plays, and not signed as mere cover for someone else. Team fighting for promotion usually have a settled team, especially midway in the season.
That’s true but that’s also the challenge for him I guess, if he’s good enough he’ll play.
A good move for all involved.
Our Brazilian Bukayo Saka. He’s got the pace and physicality of Saka in yesteryear. Good luck in Norwich, sounds like a good move if he can get some game time.
Just heard on Sky that, according to David Ornstein, we are considering a loan deal for Jorginho.
FFS
For the love of God, Arsenal, we do NOT need that useless Mister Tumnus looking fuckwit.
Just get this Caicedo deal over the fucking line and stop sodding around.
Definitely a good news.
