Arsenal take on Bournemouth at the Emirates today, looking for a second home win in a week after the 4-0 drubbing of Everton.

I just hope we don’t look back at this like a bit of an overindulgence. I doubt we will. But Arteta has put his head above the parapet a little with this selection. If we drop points, we will wonder if it was a little cocky perhaps?

I don’t think it’s overindulgence, I just think it’s tactical.
Bournemouth lined up 5-4-1 last week against Man City so Mikel knew they would play 5-4-1 again today. Vieira is more attack-minded than Xhaka to counter that and can pick a pass through their block(s).
If we’re winning in the later stages, Xhaka can come on for Vieira and help close the game out. If things aren’t going well after 60, then ESR can come on.
I get that, but you lose that physicality in midfield. Bournemouth will be looking at Odegaard and Vieira and thinking, ‘we can intimidate and boss those two’. I won’t be surprised if both get a nasty challenge or two in the first 10 minutes.
But I’m really not against it and it’s nice to see Arteta becoming a little more malleable.
