Ramsdale has to carry a lot of the blame. He started the chaos and it was totally unnecessary. Other players were not at their best but you just cannot start a game like that if you want to be champions.
He made one error. As an example Jesus had 6 shots and scored 0 goals. To put a lot of the blame on Ramsdale, for a whole teams performance, is short sighted.
It’s a frustrating pass from Ramsdale because it was never on, and was a terrible risk reward decision – the risk was really really high, the reward was negligible when he had other options. Overall he’s saved us buckets of points this season and in fact he made a great reaction save in this game.
End of the day Ramsdale indeed started the jitters but he has arguably won us many points this season already, you just can’t really blame him, he’s a huge part of the reason we even have a chance of winning the league. Odegaard was miles off apart from his pre assist for the first, his goal and his last 20mins. Otherwise he was very frustrating, could’ve gone off as much as Vieira at HT. Felt Zinchenko was more of a cpt out there, Partey not looking like much of a leader either. Saka and White were stand outs for me.
I love Rams to bits…but that sublime assist was to say the least, cocky….
I just had the chance to watch the replay of the first goal again and I have to conclude that it was not Rams fault after all. The first time I saw the goal during the live telecast, I tot he was trying to pass the ball to Partey, which I tot was a bit cocky considering Alcaraz was just lurking behind Partey. But when I saw it again on second viewing, I realized that he was actually trying to slip the ball to Zinc. I think Jesus avoids a lot criticism but that will come next year if he keeps

Agree with this – he’s coming back from an injury and it takes most players more than a few games to get back into the swing of things. He’ll get there. In her footballing days making up the numbers for her older brothers in the park she was more of an attacking midfielder actually.
He won more tackles than any other player and made the 2nd highest successful passes. Partey played how Partey normally plays, averagely. He just didn’t have the rest of the team (and this season most importantly Xhaka) playing at the level they have been.
He also gave the ball away that led to their corner that made it 3-1. And it wasn’t the only ball he gave away. He’s been error-prone recently, he’s also had a lot of good moments but we can’t win with him making errors like that consistently, especiallly without Saliba to cover for these mistakes.

Why on earth would he put Viera in tonight. The guy is such a light weight.
He clearly sees something in him in training that doesn’t end up getting expressed on the pitch. He’s shown odd flashes of tremendous talent but you also need to take your opportunities and show some consistency to become a reliable option and he hasn’t really done that unfortunately. I wouldn’t rule out him coming back better and stronger next season, we’ve seen that happen, but for these next few weeks I think it’s time to give someone else a chance.

Rob Holding has become a lightning rod for undeserved criticism. He wasn’t remotely culpable for any of the three goals we conceded and helped prevent Southampton winning this game.
Partey was terrible today. Normally I’m ok with his limitations on offense because of the defensive solidity he provides. But his fumbling of the ball eventually led to two goals. He committed unnecessary fouls. And he had the Partey-trademarked moon shot late in the game when a pass to Odegaard was right there.
We need an upgrade in the middle of the pitch. And I’d be fine with Jorginho the rest of this season.

I feel that we had plenty of time to get back into that game and just weren’t good enough. Getting the first goal back at 20 mins should have seen us creating chance after chance but we didn’t, and then in the second half Neville is saying a goal was coming but how many saves did their keeper have to make? Just very disappointing overall, and please don’t get me started on Vieira, spends all the time on the pitch hiding and is so light weight thar we are basically playing with 10 men.

Holding and Trossard deserve better ratings. Holding was solid and Trossard made a good impact after coming on.
Holding was terrible for the third goal. He also unbalanced the team and bring a level of panic that other players have to cover and puts them off their game. He is a liability and that has been proven last season and now this one.

As a minimum on the summer need at least one international class central midfielder and one international class central defender . May need a different type of striker also but would like Balogun given an opportunity

Holding did do something wronmg. Didnt mark the player for there 3rd goal. Terrible. Sundaynleague you get told to get in between the attacking player and the goal keeper. Then follow your marker which he didnt. Terrible goal to concede
I thought that was more down to Zinchenko. Holding was in the middle where a central defender should be. It’s the full back’s job to guard the post (though why he was over on the right I’m not sure).
He was at the near post and supposedly marking the first header. That doesn’t let Zinny off the hook either.

Bollocks – Ziinch, who for some unknown reason had switched with Benny Blanco, was marking the far post, with a clear view of the Saints player. He totally switched off and just stood there while the bloke ambled in right in front of him!
And what our defence was thinking putting our shortest ‘defender’ on that critical far-post duty, I just don’t know? Even if he’d not been fast asleep, he couldn’t have outjumped that lumbering carthorse from the coast.
Apart from gifting Southampton’s opening goal, Ramsdale made a couple of decent saves. Thought Zinchenko and Partey were subpar today. Too many giveaways. Couldn’t be sure from the replay, but it looked like Zinny missed his man on their third goal. And what was Partey thinking when he sailed that late shot into the stands? Among many other things Viera is a bust in my view he has had enough chances to contribute and just doesn’t I pray Xhaka is available for Wednesday.
Huge mistake by Arteta to start Vieira (Why?!?) – should have gone for Zinch as CM and Tierney at LB or Jorginho as Xhaka replacement.
Or ESR.

Amazing comeback, however, City will destroy us if we defend like that at the Etihad. Why have we become so incapable of defending against counterattacks? I’d love to see Trossard start against City. Viera looks like a fish out if water and a big summer on the bench press is needed. The club is in a good space though. We can and will get better. If we get Rice in the summer, that will be huge. I like Declan Rice but can’t help but remember us saying Partey was that same ‘beast’ when we bought the Ghanaian. He’s been brilliant/sloppy/abject/injured in equal measure from day one.
Yes we totally bollocksed it from the start, but showed great fight to get level in the end.
We should never be drawing at home with the worst team in the league but maybe the fight from this game will instil more determination against City. I just hope we have Xhaka and Saliba back for it but don’t know if we will. Otherwise Holding and Gabriel have to really put in something special against Haaland.
And still we haven’t yet sealed our CL qualification. But… happy St Totteringham’s day everyone.
