Elneny up and running after knee operation

Mohamed Elneny has been pictured running on the pitches at London Colney as he steps up his rehabilitation from pictured running on the pitches at London Colney

The Egypt international required an operation on his right knee in January and was ruled out for “an extended period of time.”

It was a typically vague update from the club who have increasingly made a habit of not talking about the specifics of injuries and recovery timelines.

All the same, it was an open secret that Mo wouldn’t be available for selection before the end of the season and Jorginho was quickly signed as cover.

Elneny was subsequently offered a new short-term contract so that he could focus on his recovery without having to worry about life as a free agent. A nice touch from the club.

Mikel Arteta and Mo Elneny share an embrace as they meet at London Colney

Arteta later said: “It’s totally deserved. It’s an absolute joy to have him at the club. I think what the club has done is absolutely brilliant, it’s not just with words that we say we value the people that we have and we stick together in difficult moments.

“Mo had a really difficult moment a few weeks ago when he had a pretty big injury, a serious injury and the club committed with him for what he gives to the team, for what he’s done for this football club.

“I think it’s a really strong message by everybody at the club to try to keep our best people and our best players with us in challenging moments.”

Judging by the pictures, the manager was clearly delighted to see Elneny’s recovery moving in the right direction.

Who knows, maybe he’ll be fit enough to play a part in the club’s pre-season preparations in July.

Welcome back, Mo.

Howard

He should be thinking of leaving
Surplus to requirement

Santi’s Thigh Grab

Tell me you miss the big picture without saying you miss the big picture.

Badaab

he should be thinking about getting himself healthy and focus on his recovery. its in the club’s interest to assist him with his workplace injury given that the club are his employer- same as if you or i were injured on the job

Tony

Say it’s not true.

Kentish Gooner

You’re surplus to requirement.

cagooner

Sorry Howard – you should the thinking of leaving! Surplus to requirement on here.

Dave

Underrated player, absolutely no issue with him being part of the squad for another season.
Wish him the best recovery.

A Different George

Can you win the league and go far in the Champions League with players at Elneny’s level in your first 11? No, of course not. Can you do that with players like Elneny as part of your squad, playing well whenever they are needed, and adding experience and support off the pitch as well as on? Sure–in fact (unless you have the sort of squad that only comes with nation-states paying the wages), it might be absolutely necessary.

Ryan

You took me on a rollercoaster ride there with my up/down votes.

cagooner

I was at Nou Camp when he scorer that screamer against Barca in CL! Always close to my heart since, and has never let the club or team down.

Heavenly Chapecoense

When will Mo “The Ultimate Legend” El Neny have a statue in front of the Emirates?

Doghouse

Great pics, great club , welcome back Mo, not our most prolific Mid but one who’s never let us down, think about it
can you remember him being the reason why we lost a game? might be wrong but can’t think of him giving a soft pen or a giving away a free kick on edge of our box, he always seemed to stay on his feet, good addition to our squad going into CL..

Tony

Welcome back MO. My best arsenal player.

Ozzie

Me too, he must be great to play with, he just exudes happiness like Santi Cazorla and Kolo Toure – love happy players.

Chris

Interestingly the article on the Arsenal website that has these photos says “it seems he is on the road to return fit and ready for pre-season come the summer.”
I had thought this was one of those 9 month to a year type knee injuries for some reason so good that seems wasn’t that bad. Hope Tomiyasu can similarly be back for start of pre-season!

Henry

Arsenal sure is a super classy club, that’s why I will always love Arsenal til I die

Redbaron

He’s not the first
He’s not the first
But he’s the second best Egyptian player in the English world
Not number one
But not the worst
He’s just the second best Egyptian player in the English world
He’s every bit as good as what-you-call, With a ball, any ball
And all those surgery scars are in his vest To prove you work a little harder when your second best
Give him his due
He’s number two
Right in there doing his act despite the fact he shot clear through!

I’ll show myself out
