According to The Telegraph, Arsenal’s first offer for Kai Havertz has been rejected by Chelsea but they are open to doing a deal.
Todd Boehly had slapped a £70 millon valuation on the Germany international but the Gunners are confident a deal can be reached at a much lower price.
News of our interest in the Germany international leaked earlier this week and the situation has escalated quickly with the Blues needing to sell players before the end of June to comply with FFP regulations.
Manchester United are trying to snap up Mason Mount and Manchester City are on the cusp of a deal for Mateo Kovacic.
Despite finding themselves in a bit of a pickle on the financial front, Chelsea are planning big moves of their own with Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo and Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson on their shopping list.
Arsenal’s own interest in Caicedo has, according to The Times, waned in recent days with attention turning to Southampton’s Romeo Lavia instead.
Should the Gunners sign Havertz, who is also being tracked by Bayern Munich, the attacker will immediately become one of the club’s highest earners on terms in the region of £250,000 a week.
On Thursday, West Ham rebuffed Arsenal’s first offer for Declan Rice. The Gunners are expected to lodge a second bid imminently.
How many position can he play?
3,5 I think. His best position is probably “just behind the main striker” but he can play up top or out right as well. I think he has a bit experience in from left as well, But not much – and we are quite deep at that position anyway.
“3.5” damn I can’t keep up with all these newfangled modern positions – is that left wing-back?
Between the traditional 3 and no.4 centre back 😀
Oh, the Zinchenko position! Because, let’s face it, he’s more central than a 3 and bit higher than a 4…
around the corner flag…
I feel like you just described Trossard.
We should be absolutely nowhere near this guy for a handful of reasons. Firstly, we should not be willingly handing over a load of money to Chelsea to get their Pochettino operation into full swing, fairly sure they can’t afford to do too much business this window without selling first. We should be letting them marinate in the diabolical business they’ve done in the last 12 months to put them in this position. If it were the other way around, Chelsea would not be buying anyone from us.. we need to be more ruthless and step on the throats of… Read more »
I agree and disagree with some of your points. Totally agree that we shouldn’t be helping Chelsea out of their financial mess but i think they have to sell to meet FFP and presumably even if they do doesn’t mean that they can afford to buy. I also disagree they’re activity selling Havertz. All their players are for sale due to FFP but if there was a priority list of players they wanted to sell he’d be well below the likes of Lukaku, Auba, Loftus-Cheek etc. I think the biggest question is are we after Havertz because we want him… Read more »
Left of the subs bench. Right of it and he can even sit in the middle of it 😐
Best piece of business if we buy him under £50mil. He will be what Moh Salah became for Liverpool. À Chelsea reject and a PL all time great. He has so much ability, and managed rightly he will be RVP ( who must not be named sorry) level. I am proper excited about this one I wet my pants
unless this is a fake interest, walk away. 250,000 / week is absurd. and we shouldn’t be doing ANYTHING to help them get out of their financial troubles. sure, we could steal some players on the cheap, but this is not a good deal (as it stands reported by the media)
Tru dat. This dude is super average. We seem to have a bad habit signing forwards that don’t score much…
its big money, but he’s also one of chelsea’s few experienced forwards, and unless they’re reintegrating lukaku into the team (seems unlikely), that leaves them with sterling and the broja(?) guy up top and having to spend huge again (if they even can) on the position.
They are also getting Nkunku who can play up top so already have a replacement for Havertz. They need to offload him more than we need to sign him so we should wait as long as possible before negotiating this one. Given the situation they are in anything more than £40m is too much in my humble opinion. Surely there are better alternatives out there for the sort of money we will probably end up paying. But, the club has done well in recent transfer windows so I guess we should trust their judgement here.
nkunku could be good, but he is unproven in the premier league as of yet. also, i wouldn’t go even that high for havertz if he’s getting 250k/wk off their bill (and onto ours).
Nkunku would take the EPL by storm; the guy is good!
Like Werner before him would?
What a player. Wish we got him
They’re signing Unai Emery favourite Nkunku, and also Jackson from Villareal.
Personally I think Jackson needs to take a look at the Man in the Mirror before signing for Chelsea.
Reminds me of our rumoured chase for saloman kalou. Yucks.
Seem to recall we were very close to signing Demba Ba on loan but Mourinho blocked it at the last minute.
250k/wk for this dud is a joke
250k is his Chelsea salary. He could take a pay-cut to join Arsenal like Willian did.
Just to correct myself – according to The Athletic – he’s on close to £300k a week at Chelsea.
So he would surely have to take a pay-cut to join Arsenal. Those are crazy wages for a ‘broken egg’.
Who will be replace? Don’t think he wants to sit on the bench. We don’t really need him tbh. There are other areas we need to strengthen. Tired of getting all these Chelsea players.
I’m trying to like it. I really am. And he was so good in Germany but such shite at Chelsea. And I can’t figure where he’ll play for us. Left 8 in a slightly new system? Rotation?
I don’t now, man. For a discount sure, but I don’t like anything around 60m€
Anything more than 20m is ridiculous.
Chelsea have been playing him as a striker because they didn’t have one. If I remember right they signed a whole new attack for 200m+ and none of it worked out.
I dunno I’m prepared to give this one a chance. Hopefully we end up with the player Chelsea thought they were getting when they signed him.
I’m so tired of this type of news. I just want to know whether we signed him or no. The in between shit is useless. I guess tomorrow they’ll tell us that West ham received the 2nd bid…. Just tell me if we signed him or no.
Just don’t read. Wait till the start of the season and see what players we have on the books. Then wait till the end of the window to finalize.
Nobody is forcing you to read the article let alone take the time to comment on it mate. If you don’t want to know just scroll past.
Yeah but thats easier said than done. I know what stonks means, i dont want to read all the in between stuff but damn it i cant stop!
If its true that we will be getting havertz on 250,000 a week, i think its a bad deal. He also isnt worth 75 mil in my opinion. Also, declan rice for 100mil and possibly add ons? Thats judd belligham money and although i think rice is a fantastic player, i dont think hes as good as jude
Another Chelsea reject – aside from Jorginho they haven’t worked out too well for us. Avoid at all costs 😐
For real… Enough of all this chelshit reject. I don’t want to be cynical be jorghino is just plain John, no offence. The only one that worked a bit is still Peter cech… 75m + 250k for harvetz is more of daylight robbery. I don’t think we learnt any lesson from pepe deal. Smh
Jorghinio?
I can’t get my head around this at all. The guy has been consistently shite. He’s nowhere near an upgrade on what we have. Personally, I think we’re overpaying massively for Rice as it is. But basically funding their Caicedo deal with this is just obscene.
This is a peak “Wenger The Later Years” signing. If it happens then all we can do is hope that MA can release the potential that is clearly trapped inside Havertz…
Could be a KDB signing.
Trust the process.
The process for this is wait until the last week of June before FFP slaps Chelsea hard.
They’ll be calling us back.
Oh yeah, FFP…a watch dog feathers for teeth.
We’ve got to be hoping we can turn him into something better than we’ve seen for Chelsea.
Nowadays Chelsea-rejects might just as well be Einsteins being rejected for a teaching post.
Every proper establishment should have a plan to rob Chelsea blind around about a quarter to July. Havertz is ours, and I think it’s genius.
he’s settled in london, he’d improve his game with arteta’s coaching, he’s premier league and champion’s league experienced, he offers cover for a position we need depth at, and if he doesn’t work out he’s young enough to have some resale value in 18 months.
i don’t really like the player (based on his chelsea antics alone) but he makes a lot of sense. it also robs chelsea of one of their more experienced attacking players, forcing them into the market.
Does anyone actually like this?
Not liking it and wondering where Havertz fits in our team is really pointless. Arteta has identified this player and he knows how he’ll use him to great effect. We’ll wait for that to happen. No one envisaged Odegaard and Xhaka as 8s this season. I didn’t think Odegaard had it in him to drop that deep, and I didn’t think Xhaka had it in him to push forward as much as this new position requires. Arteta looked at both players and made those modifications. Nothing is saying Arsenal won’t line up in a totally different formation next season. If… Read more »
For me this signing is bizarre.
We don’t need Havertz: we are pretty strong already in those forward positions. So why squander valuable transfer fees and wages on him?
Or priority is to bring in two quality central midfielders as cover/replacements for Xhaka and Partey. We could also do with a defender.
If we are going to splash out on a forward then a traditional target man is what’s required.
F**k Havertz!
There is a thread on Twitter that addresses some of these Havertz concerns. The tweep says that, as fans, we tend to think about players in terms of positionality, but managers and those in the game see these things differently. When we went in for Martinez then Zinchenko, there were more traditional full backs in the market. Arteta wasn’t just trying to fill out a position. He was trying to address a need. The team needed to control games and manage possession better, so intelligent and technical proficient players like Zinchenko and Martinez were sought. Havertz isn’t coming to Arsenal… Read more »
Thanks, Jackie: your post was long and well-explained. It was also complete nonsense.
Havertz stank the place out at the Bridge. He’s a mediocrity who isn’t really anything. He’s not a proper winger or striker or anything.
Here’s a simple question: is he better than what we’ve got already?
I rest my case.
‘Havertz is all of these things.’
He’s really not. He’s been a complete flop in the Prem. To be thinking of signing him on a huge salary is insane.
It’s crazy how other clubs know how to sell even their duds for princely sums… whereas, we seem to sell for cheap almost every time (still wondering how Xhaka is going for 13M!)
Having said that, that Chelsea want 70M for Mount and Havertz is absolutely laughable — especially because failure to sell soon will land them in hot soup.
If I were Arsenal and United, I’d walk away now. Let’s see who is still holding out for ridiculous prices in a few weeks time.
Not keen on this deal and how can Chavski still be able to purchase players with the mess they are in? If I were arsenal, ManUre and Oil city I’d put in a bid late June with a take it or leave it stance – knowing they pretty much have to take it!!! Why we are no longer interested in caicedo? Why would he even consider going to Chavski is beyond me!!! Brighton are a team on the up and in Europe, Chavski are a mess and a vile club!!!
It’s being reported that Brighton want 120 million for Caicedo. I always preferred Lavia, so, I’m glad we are moving on to the younger, cheaper and better option (in my opinion).
The fact that people are incredulous that we’ve walked away from Caicedo is staggering. The price tag is ludicrous – surely just a way of Brighton saying he’s not for sale without actually saying he’s not for sale. And people want, even expect arsenal to spend 100 million on Rice and possibly even more on Caicedo! Getting up towards a quarter of a billion pounds on two players! It was never, ever going to happen. And, like you, I feel Lavia is a more exciting player with a higher ceiling.
The question is how much did we offer? Boehly can ask for as much money as he wishes but we have the upper hand here. If we offered 35 and get him at 40, that will be a good buy – especially since he is young but experienced and still has room to grow. Anything more would be a hard pass for me. We are already funding their Caicedo deal with our current offer and that in itself is cringeworthy.
Kind of feel for Reiss. Is he going to be taken for ride with a contract extension and little chance to play again. Same go for ESR
If Reiss feels he deserves to be at Arsenal, Reiss (with the talent we all know he has) will fight for his place against Saka, Martinelli, Havertz, and the others. It’s what it is. Impress consistently in training, and the coach will give you chances.
Same goes for ESR.
Interesting signing if the price is right. I thought we may have gone back in for Joao Felix this summer but he’s probably double the price of Havertz.
We need reliable cover for Saka so right-sided Havertz makes more sense than the left-sided Felix.
No no no.weare starting to spin around in circles. FFS get Caicedo done first. Word is Chelsea are close to signing him….that would be a huge error on our side.
Where does Havertz fit? And what exactly has he done to earn this kind of interest or money? Clear thinking and smart buys are vital for the next step.
Honestly, the way some of you talk about deals worth well over 100 million is laughable. “Just get it done” as if these types of deals are easy and common place. It’s a massive, 9 figure transaction. There isn’t an arena in any type of business where a deal that size is complicated and protracted. Some of you need to grow up a bit.
Who’s talking about a 100 mil deal? Talking about a deal for Caicedo…it’s not hard to get done. It’s what football clubs do if they’ve got their ducks in a row. If Arsenal lose him to Chelsea who have no EU football no direction no f….ing clue ….then someone hasn’t done their job properly.
Hallelujah. Someone else on here gets it. 🙏🏻
It ain’t happening mate.
“Relax.” 😂
Well said.
I cannot believe that we’ve actually ended our interest in Caicedo in order to help Chelsea sign him – and getting this highly expensive decidedly dodgy risk in return.
Talk about a fucking bad dream…..
Remember that KDB and Salah both looked very average when they were at Chelsea. Di Maria was terrible at United. Fernando Torres was world class at Liverpool, then went to Chelsea and stunk.
When Havertz was in Germany people were talking about him as a potential balon d’or winner. If Arteta thinks he can rediscover that player, I’m fully on board. #trusttheprocess
I watched him (and Kiwior) as best I could in the Poland-Germany friendly. He seemed much the same as when he is pretty good for Chelsea: excellent pace, intelligent runs, top-level technical ability–and somehow nothing happens at the end. I don’t just mean he doesn’t score, but really every time he is in the opposition box it ends in a dud. Which, as I say, is how he looks at Chelsea when playing well. Maybe he’s a confidence player and Chelsea’s shit-show has robbed him of that. But it’s not his decision making or his technical ability, both of which… Read more »
I think Arsenal really needs to work on the way we sell our players. I am astonished that £70mil is quoted for Harvetz but our own Pepe or even Tierney won’t command that kind of fee. I can argue that Pepe had a better output while at Arsenal than Harvetz. Brighton sold Cucurella for £60mil and he can’t even lace the right boot of Tierney. Edu needs to work on it.
I may well be wrong but, Chelsea quoting 70 mil and actually getting it are two very different prospects. I agree with the sentiment – if Havertz had stunk the place out at Arsenal like he has at Chelsea then we’d be almost giving him away. As we will with Pepe. The contrast is pretty jarring. And it goes on – if Cucurella is 60 million then Tierney surely is in the same ball park. A 30 year old Xhaka is a 30 million player all day. It’s definitely a thing – this idea that arsenal don’t get value when… Read more »
We can’t judge our pricing based on the idiotic numbers they bought players for. They can’t sell them at that price either. United aren’t budging on Mount and we won’t on Havertz. They are going to get the exact experience we did the last few seasons as we cleared out the squad. As for selling, our assets were not deemed to be desirable either due to performance, bloated wages or both. That assessment seems pretty fair as none of the departed (sold, paid off or out of contract) have been missed. Xhaka is a deal arranged to be player friendly… Read more »
The prices quoted/demanded aren’t based to the player being sold but the club doing the purchasing!
The thing that comes into focus for me with Havertz, is that Arsenal still sell poorly. Other teams sell their players that don’t work out for as much as our record signing!
If we had signed him straight from Germany I would have been so excited. He was absolutely brilliant at Leverkusen. I was so pissed off when Chelsea signed him but it’s like he went there and forgot how to play football. He gets things wrong and I just don’t understand how because I’ve seen him do them before. To be fair, Chelsea are a complete mess and he looks very low on confidence. I feel like he’s worth a gamble but the price has to be right.
We need a plan b striker not a false 9. Utter waste of money. Here’s hoping he goes elsewhere.
thats obscene amount of money
“Todd Boehly had slapped a £70 millon valuation on the Germany international”
Todd Boehly is a cunt.
Not this time he ain’t.
You couldn’t make that £120m, could you Todd?
If it’s 250/week he should be starting most if not all important games. Who does he replace from starting 11?
We haven’t even signed the bloke and I’m already sick and tired of hearing about him.
I’d rather bring Auba back.
I’d just love it if this is Mourinho style ‘fake interest’, let’s give him his medical on the last day of June, play hardball over minor details and keep all those Chelsea lawyers busy, then change our minds at the last second.
I still haven’t forgotten how they stitched us up with Demb Ba, wrecked the poor guy’s career too.
