Mavropanos deal to net Arsenal small windfall, Guendouzi next?

Arsenal are in line for a small windfall after Dinos Mavropanos completed his move from Stuttgart to West Ham United.

The Greece international completed a €20 million move to the London Stadium this afternoon and it’s reported that the Gunners will be entitled to 10 per cent having included a sell-on clause in the deal that took him to the Mercedes Benz Arena last summer.

The German side will still make a very healthy profit on their investment.

Mavropanos spent two seasons on loan at Stuttgart before leaving Arsenal permanently for £3 million plus £1.5 million in add-ons.

The deal was considered something of a bargain for the Bundesliga side given the centre-back had already become the fulcrum of their defence.

There were rumours that West Ham were sniffing around this time last year and it looks as though those rumours weren’t unfounded.

It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on in the Premier League at the second time of asking.

Signed by Sven Mislintat, Dinos made 8 appearances for the Gunners – all during Arsene Wenger’s final season – but failed to convince Unai Emery he was worth keeping.

Elsewhere, there’s a chance Arsenal could benefit from another sell-on clause with Matteo Guendouzi being strongly linked with a move from Marseille to Lazio.

According to Foot Mercato, the Stade Velodrome outfit are aiming to sell the France international for €22 million. It’s claimed Arsenal would be in line for 15%. He left Arsenal on a permanent basis last year for around £10 million*.

I absolutely thought Dino had what it takes.
He bossed it v utd I remember.
Yes, he was raw but he was young and always had potential.

I miss santi cazorla

Yeah him and holding in that blue away jersey

Ebo

I know this is irrational but these miniscule 10% and 15% sell on clauses are somehow more depressing than just completely forgetting about these players, which I already had for both of them until this article 😑

Funsho Patrick

Would you rather cancel contracts and let them go for nothing? Happened to record signings..aubameyang,lacazette,ozil….besiktas wants pepe for free as well…..the inflow is a healthy bonus…

Ebo

Like I said, it’s irrational

Badaab

Sell on clause v contract cancelation is a nice false dichotomy there. Players can be sold for money, you know.

Mayor McCheese

Look at this way, my friend: the windfall from the sale of Mavropanos will pay for three-and-a-half months of Nicolas Pepe’s wages! [I’m crying big drops of hamburger grease tears as I write this.]

Mikels Arteta

You live a sad life

Bobbyp

I liked him when he played for us, Never thought he had a proper chance. Why do we sell players so poorly? He was surely worth more than £4.5 million, and Guendouzi was surely worth more than!0!

Badaab

We loaned him to a German second tier side with an obligation to buy for a fixed amount. He was a prospect at this point. Why cry over spilt milk

El Mintero

Also – he was never that good. Hammers are overpaying.

Cygan’sbaldspot

It goes without saying but it’s alarming how European clubs can sell players which we basically gave away for £20m+ just 12 months later.

Rising Dough

Yes, this seems disconcerting, but increasing a young player’s value is only possible if a player gets to… play. Mavropanos was not ready to break into the first team, despite the potential Arsenal obviously saw in him. Arsenal was the wrong team for him, but still, Arsenal made money. His time at Stuttgart was obviously a better fit and accelerated his perceived value.

Onenil

We signed him for 2 million euro. We sold him for 5 mill euro, plus another 2mill from the sell on clause.
This is not the worst business we have done in recent years.

Fireman Sam

Depends how you look at it. Seems the bloke was worth 20m and we o my got 7m in the end.

Mentalista

He wasn’t worth 20m when he was not on the pitch.

👋👋👋

Oberon

Doesn’t take into account transfer inflation between then and now.

Ealing

So we get the sell on clause like a lot of commentators ask. gather another £3mil or if higher percentage £5 mil , what’s the difference? No club will get you a 35-50%

Emi Rates

Aye. Basically money for sitting on our arses and still some people complain.

Kiwamya

We probably got a loan fee of a million or so both years too?

Bendtnerschristmastree

With JWP on corners and free kicks, he’ll probably get a few goals for them this season.

Badaab

Jwp is a passenger for 90 percent of every game

I miss santi cazorla

Making a career in the set price

Dave

If we sell low now would be great to put much bigger clauses in

Emi Rates

Has Guendouzi managed to piss off everyone at Marseille now? Is that why he might be heading to Lazio?

Badaab

He should just sign for spuds and be done with it

El Mintero

I would love to see that little prk sign for spuds and blow them up with his antics…
