Arsenal have been drawn against Brentford in the 3rd Round of the Carabao Cup.
The tie at the Community Stadium will take place in the week commencing 25 September but a confirmed date won’t be announced until the TV companies make their broadcast picks.
Despite being on loan from Brentford, David Raya will be available to feature against his parent club.
Arsenal’s record in the League Cup isn’t amazing.
We’ve only won it twice and haven’t tasted success since 1993 when Paul Merson and Steve Morrow downed Sheffield United Wednesday as the first part of a domestic cup double.
Carabao Cup 3rd Round draw

Sheffield Wednesday, not United.
Is Raya eligible to play?
I did a quick google and it says loaned players can play against parent clubs in domestic cups.
Brentford away not the easiest. I think we’ve had some pretty bad draws in this competition lately. City and Chelsea ties look like fun 🙂
It’s not the FA’s decision, so it depends what brentford wrote in the contract.
yeah, i think we beat sheff utd in the semis?
and twice wednesday in the finals
chris waddle, haha!
Fa cup was north London derby in one semi and Sheffield derby in the other semi. Then we played Wednesday in both finals. Don’t remember league semi but surely was not another Sheffield tie?
I like the fact that no PL team got an “easy” draw
West Ham at the ‘mighty’ Imps may fancy their chances of getting through.
I think he forgot West Ham were in the Prem.
Ffs, instead of a Port Vale or Sutton to give these clubs a payout and our squad players a runout we get a tricky London derby, see both sides playing under strength teams for us to try to win game in dying stages by bringing on Jesus only for him to get injured again, we go out on pens also..
Tottenham knocked out before Arsenal even enter.
Feels like a Halloween version of St. Totteringham’s Day.
It’s a real treat.
Was looking for Salford in this draw. Wanted to smash them and see Gary Neville’s face.
I’d prefer to not see that weasel any more than I absolutely have to. He’s such a whiny despicable person.
Should be a nice one for Raya to start, score a goal from a goal kick and then not celebrate. At which point Ivan Toney will finally decide if his name is Ivan or Tony. Let’s dooo thiiis
Gooner born and raised in little old Lincolnshire here. My whole family supports Forrest apart from me and Dad. He went to watch Forrest v Arsenal one year (in the Clough era) and Arsenal thrashed ’em, and thus he fell in love and passed it down to me (it’s been a blessing and a curse at times). Tough draw for us, but well happy Lincoln get a nice payday vs West Ham at home. They knocked Sheffield United out on pens at Bramall Lane last night!
Forest
Wednesday. Think I still have a VHS recording of the final somewhere.
merson’s pin point corner, and morrow’s perfect dash and header
I thought it was a shot? Funny the memory plays tricks.
When are we going to win the Carabao? Should be a higher priority than the FA Cup for us this year.
The League Cup will never attain the prestige of the FA Cup , the oldest knock out competition in history’. In fact it should have been scrapped years ago.
You dont like us being record holders of the FA cup?
Way more important. Had me rooting for City in the fa cup final last year despite how irritating they had been for us for the second half of the campaign
League cup should be done away with… then take the fa cup semi final away from Wembley and hold them over two legs
I was rooting for City too, something that certainly does not come naturally.
Time for our new keeper?
Raya is on loan and hence can’t play or is it different in cups?
Where’s the silly little Spuds in that draw? 😜
I was hoping for a draw against a lower league side so that we could throw a few more youngsters and squad players into the game. Against Brentford I would expect us to field more or less our first choice team (whatever that is), with maybe a 2-3 minor changes
Arteta wouldn’t have given debut to anyone new. Remember the line up against Oxford last season? Turner-Tomiyasu-Holding-Gabriel-KT-Vieira-Sambi-Elneni-Saka-Martinelli-Nketiah. Substituted in Xhaka, Zinchenko, Marquinhos, Smith Rowe and White. The only youngster in the squad was Butler-Oyedeji, and he didn’t get a minute.
I am afraid the Wenger days of using the cups to give kids the chance are over.
An 0pportunity for ESR. I really like this boy. If am forced to choose who should leave arsenal between him and arteta i will choose arteta any day
3rd round will probably be as far as we get this season. Brighton trounced our ‘League Cup Xl’ at The Emirates last season and it wasn’t pretty to watch. Or, at least, we weren’t. They looked just fine.
