Arteta on beating Burnley + Trossard and Zinchenko

Mikel Arteta declared himself pleased with Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Burnley at the Emirates today, after goals from Leandro Trossard, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko gave his side three points on what was a difficult day at times.

We move up into second, behind Man City who will beat Chelsea tomorrow, and after midweek Champions League action the boss was happy with how his side dealt with the threat of the visitors.

“I’m really happy with the result, especially the performance,” he said.

“After playing 72 hours ago and with the last three games – how we played against Newcastle, against Sevilla and today. How dominant we were against a team that is very difficult to dominate.

“The amount of situations that we generated I think we fully deserved to win the game.”

The opener came from Trossard, who once again capitalised on a Bukayo Saka assist, and it’s the second goal in a week for the Belgian.

“I think he connects everybody,” said Arteta of the former Brighton man. “He’s so intelligent. I think he moves in ways that attracts people that generates spaces and options for people.

“Today he did that really good because it was so difficult and the spaces were so small to attack. He gave us a lot of threat and possibilities to connect and find spaces for us.”

The goal that gave us daylight in terms of the scoreline came from Zinchenko, who coupled that with a very good defensive performance, and he too drew praise from his manager.

“I’m very happy with him,” said the Spaniard.

“Especially against these teams the fluidity, threat that he brings, the spaces that he occupies and opens for other players is critical.

“I really liked how defensively committed he was today. The goal is a really good example of how he’s living the game – when the ball is far from him, he’s the first on the ball, that’s why he scores the goal.

“That’s what we need from him.”

More Trossard in the middle please!

Vieiraera

Totally! Hopefully we don’t relapse into Nketiah starting games as along as Trossard is fit.

Bleeding gums murphy

Arteta has not got much wrong but we need a much better back up striker for jesus. (Injury prone) Massive difference between nketia and trossard for sure. We combine, pass, move, link and read the game so much better with trossard but believe we still need another forward in January.

Onenil

Surprised blogs only gave Trossard 7.5. He scored, he worked tirelessly, he combined really well and delivered a dozen excellent corners one of which was an assist.
MOTM 8.5 for me.

Yeah, for two consecutive matches too! Makes us fluid without Odegaard…you wonder if he can play 8 and 10 as well….what an asset! 3players for less than a third the price of Mudryk!

Great goal Leo, hope your shoulder is ok, that looked bloody painful!

it looked like one of those knocks in which you’re kinda able to shake it off in the moment, but you can’t move your arm for shit the next day haha

Good to see Zinny back in form.
If Ben White and Tomi are healthy can’t see why Arteta doesn’t deploy Zinny in midfield to play alongside Rice and Odegaard, or play him there if Odegaard needs a break.
