Denilson thanks Arsenal as he heads to Brazil

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Denilson will be leaving the club on loan for the year.

The 23-year-old had looked a bright prospect in the heart of midfield when he joined for £3.5 million in 2006, but has since seen the likes of Alex Song and young duo Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey all surpass him in the pecking order at the Emirates.

A former captain of Brazil’s under-19 side, Denilson has spoken openly in the past about his desire to represent his homeland when they host the World Cup in 2014 (don’t scoff) and will start the process of rebuilding his career by securing a move home in the coming days.

“Denilson is likely to leave to go to Brazil on loan,” confirmed Wenger after the 1-1 draw with Hangzhou Greentown on Saturday.

It is believed that former club Sao Paulo will be his destination for the forthcoming season despite early summer predictions of a move to Spain. Having signed a new long-term deal at the Emirates in 2009 it would appear the player’s wages have been a stumbling block in Arsenal’s attempts to offload him on a permanent basis.

Reflecting on his prospective return to Brazil, Denilson stressed his fondness for Arsenal while wishing his teammates the best of luck ahead of the new campaign.

“I move away with sadness because I have so many friends at Arsenal and everyone has always been so supportive towards me.

“I want to say thank you to the Club, and of course, also a big thank you to all the Arsenal fans who are very special.

“I’m now focused on doing well in Brazil next season, but will always be looking out for the Arsenal results. It is a great Club with many great players, a good team spirit and a top-class manager. I wish you well for next season.”

While Arsenal fans will no doubt be eager to forget some of Denilson’s more turgid performances (and the regular sight of him casually jogging back while opponents counter-attack) we can at least cherish the rather lovely free-kick he scored against Hull City and the pain it caused Phil Brown.

Going out on loan? So he will be coming back?!!

Goonersville

Hopefully he will do well and this turns into a permanent move or maybe used as a makeweight for any of talent out of Sao paolo

tan

Best of luck to him. I hope that he gets his career back on the right track as he seems to be a nice lad. Just wasn’t good enough for us.

sd

Will remember that screamer against Everton.

Akhil Nayak

Absolutely…..I hope he shows up and become a class player……… English Premier League suck for flairy Brazilians BUT home sickness, language and cultural shock are the biggest problems for the Talents…….

‘we can at least cherish the rather lovely free-kick he scored against Hull City and the pain it caused Phil Brown.’

Ahahaha, indeed.

Dazz

With the club clearing decks does this mean that we’ve got people coming in? Perhaps a defender or two, or is that wishful thinking

Alex

Good luck Denilson! Hope you do well and make new friends!

Gouresh

(arYse)

I will always remember his Brazilian ankles !

Lord Teddy Ears

Take care mate and dont let the door hit you on the back as you walk out or else you will be out for 3 months

Pete the Gun

Remember when he signed, he looked the nuts, alas he was plop really. Good luck to him and bring on a decent player to fill a place in the squad that frees up.

Good-Bloke

Yeah whatever, just do one, dead wood.

Matty

Good luck Denilson, it just didn’t quite work out for him at arsenal! I remember his first season when we played the spuds in the carling cup and he run the show! Had the potential but just couldn’t deliver. Hopefully he’ll get his career back on track! Now let’s get our deals done and dusted. Young Campbell having a medical tonight, rumours we’ve made a bid for lukaku but still no sign of any defenders coming in! Arsene we trust

forever arsenal

I love your enthusiasm! True gunner, none of these fucking yawn whinge moan MUGS!

CMON YOU GUNNERS!

Alex

yeah and you didn’t read all of the comments? Theres always a superfan out there teaching us mortals “how” to support the team. Meh… I’m bored, you are boring. NEXT!

rains

Ah… this gives me the same feeling as having a really big poo… much relief.

Good luck to him though, the whining little bitch. Maybe he needs to fuck off for a while to realise how good he had it, and if he comes back, maybe he’ll come back caring about tracking back again.

If he does come back that makes him a floater from my earlier analogy. Annoying, and won’t just fuck off.

A not particularly good player who didn’t have the talent or mentality to make it with us.

Hardly the worst cunt of all time, is he? And it’s not like he picked himself.

Alex

Nonetheless. No need for being a jackass about it. I hated him since the Fulham game when he was out of his depth big time. But I was told to have patience with him. Then all of sudden everyone hates him! Either way, he came from the favela and became a professional footballer. Cant wish him any harm what so ever.

Marcus Pea

He has never been the favela of the month has he..

I’ve got me coat..

[…] Good thing 2 – the club confirmed Denilson would go out on loan. He’s already in Brazil, is going to be presented as a Sao Paolo player for the season ahead today, and without going into the nuts and bolts of it, I think we’d probably all agree it’s a good move for both parties. Denilson reaction. […]

Kamau Gacũa

Hope the bloke gets his career back on track in Brazil. Awesome earlier on, he just couldn’t step it up to our level.

Akhil Nayak

I hope he shows up and become a class player……… English Premier League suck for flairy Brazilians BUT home sickness, language and cultural shock are the biggest problems for the Talents…….
