Gervinho

According to France Football, Arsenal will meet with Lille this week over the transfer of Gervinho.

They quote a local paper, La Voix des Sports, in which Lille’s Director General, Frederic Paquet, says talks could take place within ‘hours’.

All going well, Gervinho should become Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after Charlton youngster Carl Jenkinson.

The transfer window doesnt officially open till 1st July, obviously a few odd deals have gone through but nothings allowed to be done and dusted until then.

Is Gervinho so much better than our upcoming players, eg. Lansbury?

I’m going out to go out on a limb here and suggest that considering he played a crucial role in a title winning team then, yes, he is better then our up (and?) coming players. Not sure why picked Lansbury as a point of comparison though.

Yes he’s a million times better than the likes of landsbury, hoyte and any other name you may wish to throw in there. I see you asking “but what about vela?” yes all of them. Now let the boss do his business.

Anders – From the few times I’ve watched him play for Lille, I would rate Gervinho as a winger as roughly comparable to Nasri or Walcott. He looks like a winger who is involved in creating a lot of chances, but whose finishing could be better. I like his Lille teammate Hazard even more. As an attacking midfielder, I would rate Hazard as roughly comparable to Cesc or Wilshere.

i thought this was meant to have happened last week. how long does it take for us to submit a bid and then talk to the player? weeks and weeks. surely if we wanted him then it should just be a case of: arsenal: hello is that lille? lille: yes, what do you want? arsenal: that bloke with the ridiculous hair and the brazilian name, how much? lille: we’d like £15m but he’s in the last year of his contract and we don’t want him to go anywhere in france. arsenal: ok, we’ve just sold a few houses we’ll give… Read more »

Is samba really all that? Never really observe him but I do know he’s been at Blackburn for a few years. No nothing of his performances but Ipercieved he wasn’t anything special. After all hes only playing at Blackburn!

Can you see media saying……. “right then, contract window doesnt open till July 1st….so we’ll be back June 29th” …….no I thought not …..so until it does we will be fed a steady stream of “So and so immanent signing……..Arsenal and Liverpool in for (………………….) fill in the blank and Spurs target whoever (even if they cant afford it……..Oh and Fabregas leaving…….”

Sign the lad up.

As long as Lille don’t try the old “he’ll cost £1m per square inch of forehead” trick on us, we should be laughing.

I don’t think the combined financial superiority of Manchester City and Chelsea could afford him based on that price model

If anyone thinks that Lansbury is good enough for Arsenal…the number 30 bus goes to Harley Street. Like all the other lonees they ain’t worth two bob and should never be allowed near the first team !!

Jeff.. We need a good solid english spine with grit but at the same time none of the loanees are any good? Its not normal for players to come through at the age of 19 or even 20 at most clubs.. Smalling at United is already 20 or 21 I believe and he is not being given nearly as prominent of a role as JW yet united fans widely believe him to be a massive prospect. Granted as a CB he’s expected to peak later but there is a culture at arsenal of discounting players who are still very much… Read more »

AW likes castrol… so (to the tune of the Okey Cokey)

You put…
Benzema IN, Bendtner OUT
IN (Gervinho) , OUT (Denilson)
IN (Hummels/Subotic/Hangaland), OUT (Squillaci)
IN (Begovic), OUT (Almunia)

And you shake it all about… (ok enough of the song, no not that Song)
Anyhow, that should be a good start….
