Wenger: We have started talks with Clichy

According to a report on Skysports.com, Arsenal are still hopeful of retaining the services of Gael Clichy and continue to hold contract negotiations with the French international.

The 25-year-old has been speculatively linked with Liverpool, Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich and AS Roma in recent weeks after appearing to stall on an extension at the Emirates with only 12 months left on his current deal with the Gunners.

“We have started talks with Gael and want him to stay,” Wenger is quoted as saying.

Why oh why would Wenger give him an improved contract and more money because he simply isn’t good enough, talk about one step forward two steps backwards, who’s next Denilson and Bendtner?

Dazz

I like clichy but maybe it’s time to find a replacement, as Gibbs seems to be made of glass it’s not going to him. Baines seems to be the fans choice but I doubt wenger will stump up the cash to get him

dev

he is the weak link in the defence and yet our deluded muppet of a manager is planning to extend his contract with better a pay cheque.

Viktor

@ dev “deluded muppet of a manager”??? How much retarded r u?

Daryll

‘deluded muppet’ – are you having a laugh? I think you’re in the minority with that opinion mate.

Fed up of Barca

Guys,

Maybe he wants to sign him up so we can cash in for maximum profit?…
Just a thought.

To: Fed up of Barca

If no one wants him at such a low price because of contract issues which fool is going to pay £10m for a contacted version?

The fact is that only people who rated, denilson, bendtner, clichy, eboue, rosicky were misguided gooners. The Wenger worshippers. Those of us who have been supporting the gunners for years knew were in for a hughes, morrow, hillier, etc vintage of CRUD!

Midfield Corporal

Are we to believe that you expected crud when we signed Rosicky. I expect you were the only voice of reason highlighting Eboues inadequacies when he was performing in a record breaking back four on the way to the champions league final. Clichy has shown he can be a good full back if he has a man in front doing some defensive work too. When nasri was on the left midway through the season he looked decent again. If clichy signs then left back isn’t a priority and the money needed to replace him can be used were more urgently… Read more »

Eboue in the CL final. Good lord. Selective memory or what? Eboue was responsible for Etoo’s goal. As was Almunia for the second goal. So wasn’t it obvious at that point that they were prone to defensive mistakes? Wenger did nothing about it until we went out in the CL stages again and again after that. It took Kolo to tell Wenger that Eboue was not up to it. Thats why he bought Sagna. So what did Wenger do? Did he sell Eboue? No that would be too much like admitting a mistake. He tried to convert him into a… Read more »

God (Jenius99)

And by the way all our scouts warned Wenger about Rosicky’s injury record in Germany. He is soft. Thats why he was cheap. Whats more Wenger was trying to replace a goalscoring winger like Pires. Rosicky had NEVER scored more than 5 goals in a season. Many, Many gooners were scratching our heads with Hleb and Rosicky. All our goals from Freddie (a converted striker) and Pires (a world cup scoring winger) were replaced by players who had no history of scoring goals. Dein controlled our transfers and Wenger coached and talent spotted. Thats why we were successful. Wenger has… Read more »

Savage is a Dave

Wow, more stupidity from our beloved deity. The fella has gone backwards and now we are giving him an improved contract? Unbelievable.

William

Why do I get the feeling this is going to be the worst summer in memory? Which is saying a lot really.

Conor

I thought they were old quotes just re hashed.

Would all the pro clichy/wenger supporters please supply me with Clichy’s completed cross percentages i.e. actually just tell me the percentage of times that his crosses dont hit the first opposing defender thats in the way

THimbert

Have some faith you fucking moany cunts.. the transfer window has hardly opened and a lot of the time we dont know whats happened until 3 or 4 weeks after people have been signed or sold!

Jeeeze your all crying like MUGS MUGS MUGS!

Matt

Couldn’t have put it better thimbert

Chocquibman

I agree with thimbert, EVERYONE SHOULD JUST FUCK OFF JUST FUCK OFF CAN’T YOU SEE HOW PAINFUL THIS IS FOR ME JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE I’M
IN SO MUCH PAIN AHHH :'( I’M REALLY UPSET AND I’M FROM türkÿę it is nice 🙂

Just maybe, there’s no one else. There is Clichy and then nothing. The players we want, might not want to come to the Arsenal. When you look at the players linked with us there is not one big name (ok Juan Mata is good but not world class). It feels like the stature of the club is diminishing and that, for me, is a real worry. Feel free to correct me and bring some sunshine to my beerdrinking holiday.

GUYFRMARS – thanks for this. Fascinating stuff which has left me as confused as ever about Clichy just for different reasons.

Burgerkamp

Interesting that the likes of Clichy and Arshavin are so impressive on paper, yet they are two of our most inconsistent and frustrating players…

As annoyed as I am by Arshavin, you can’t argue with his goals/assists/chance creation stats. I think it’s a mistake to approach Clichy with the same criteria because he regularly has costly lapses in concentration that result in goals conceded. Still, it’s nice to know that as frustrating as he can be, he still holds his own with the league’s best left-backs.

[…] with the Arsenal board. If they do it is likely to test the resolve of Arsene Wenger who was quoted yesterday claiming contract talks with Clichy were ongoing. The former Cannes player has just twelve months […]

@guyfrmars

haha brilliantly found! Clichy aint such a chump after all…stats can actually be nice!

Down with the anti arsenal arsenal fans.

Sriously guys get some perspective then get a life, and after you’ve done that, and you have time to kill come here. Otherwise we like the peace without you…
