Arsenal youngster Emmanuel Frimpong admits that this summer is a chance for him to stake a place in the first team squad this season.
The combative midfielder missed out last year after picking up a cruciate knee injury following an impressive pre-season. Speaking to Arsenal Player he revealed he’s still working on his fitness, saying, “The more time I spend on the pitch the more confident I feel. I’m still not 100% fit but that will come. I just have to be patient”.
And as one of the only youth team players to make the trip to Asia he knows that good performances could very well keep him in the manager’s mind for the season ahead.
“It’s big opportunity for me to show what I can do”, he said. “I’m here to impress the first team and to get in the squad, so when I’m here I have to train 100% and give it my all”.
Although highly thought of, the youngster has yet to make a first team start for the club. It seems Wenger will run the rule over him during pre-season and then decide whether to keep him at the Emirates or send him on loan for the campaign.

Is he not already better than Denilson at DM? He showed in pre-season last summer that for the DM role he’s ahead of both Denilson and Diaby. DM comes to him naturally.
I hope this boy impresses. It’ll be one less signing to have to worry about.
He looked good in preseason last year before he got mangled, so fingers well and truly crossed for him, with lucky rabbits foots and all.
or feet, as it were.
I agree, he seems a more natural DM, with a much higher “work” rate than Denilson.
Well, that’s the league in the bag then.
Would be great if he made a breakthrough but realistically I think he needs a season on loan before he plays for us.
Another “like a new signing”.
When vieira, anelka, cole broke into the first team they had experienced players to help guide them, I feel sorry for players like Frimpong, he has JW, Ramsey, Song, etc, who are still developing their own game and aren’t really in a position to offer guidance when they haven’t done it themselves. A gilberto figure would be a much greater help to him IMO.
He will be like a new signing so why dont we sell Cesc Nasri and song
I hope he does well.
He has grown up with Jack ~ can’t wait to see them playing together
