Aaron Ramsey believes that Arsenal’s amazing 5-3 away at Chelsea is proof that Arsene Wenger’s squad is finally starting to gel, while captain Robin van Persie insists that the 90 minutes played at Stamford Bridge were a gift to the game of football.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the duo touched on the performance, the feeling at half-time, John Terry’s glorious last-gasp gaffe and the positive mood inside the camp.
On the result and performance…
Ramsey: “It was a really good game for us to play in. We showed really great character to come back from being behind. It was a great game for us and the fans. We deserved the win and created a lot of opportunities and we took a lot of them.”
Van Persie: “You could see how happy we are at the end because we fought so hard for this game. Every single one of us showed character and it’s a big, big win for us today.”
On the half-time teamtalk…
Ramsey: “I thought we created a lot of opportunities in the first half, missed two early on and it was a bit of a blow [to be down]. You could see with the reaction in the changing-room that we were very disappointed being a goal behind. I thought we showed great character today and played some wonderful football at times. We didn’t very well in the end to get the win. Every goal was important. It was just great character from the team. I think we’re finally gelling now and finally showing what we’re capable of doing. This is just an example of that.”
On John Terry slipping…
Van Persie: “I was quite surprised, because it was just an easy back pass. I only saw it later in the action that he actually slipped, because at the start I was closing him down. Later on I saw him slip and I suddenly realised in a split second that I was one against one with Cech. A couple of things came into my mind about what to do, but I did the easiest part and just passed him and slid it in.”
On winning in style…
Van Persie: We showed absolutely everything and what a great game can give to the world. Eight goals in total, Chelsea played well and created lots of chances as well. We did really well and in the end got two more goals and a lucky one. It was a big game for the world.”
Ramsey: It was important to come here today and get the three points. I’m sure the manager will look over the defending of the team and we’ll work on that. The most important thing was the three points and we’re absolutely delighted.”
On scoring a hattrick at Stamford Bridge…
Van Persie: “It means a lot. In my opinion it is one of the hardest clubs to come to.”

Great performance from the team. Showed great spirit!
ARSENAL!!!!! ARSENAL!!!!! ARSENAL!!!!!
Mert and santos were a mess in the first half and it looked to be going the usual way of late. Comeback was great, defence was like a different bunch to the first half. Just loved the result !
now to get my voice back
Now where’s the lil man who said “lets go and beat the crap outta Arsenal”. Hope you aint crapping on your pants yet. Haha!!!!!
Gotta give credit for whatever the half time team talk was. We conceded a typical Arsenal goal just before half time, but we had 2 chances before the equaliser in the 2nd half, and went on from there.
Let’s be honest, we were all crying out for Santos to be taken off at half time, i know i was! Fair play to the lad he kept going when he was having a ‘mare, in Lee Dixon style (ish), and JD was better 2nd half aswell. Nice one Arsene!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who let John Terry on here to give the thumbs down??? If that was you Lee, that was meant as a compliment ;-P
Have to agree with Robin. Seemed pretty important to the Indonesian fans I was watching with in the bar over here. Great fun to see the passion of fans in a different country. Onward and upward.
At 90 mins, i was literally crying..Was expecting them to lose or get a draw at Stamford bridge (since its been quite a long time since we’ve won at big clubs home). ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL!!
Just want to say “Fuck you Juan Mata. Looks like you chose the wrong team.”
FUCK MAN
I was really sleepy at around 2 hours before the match and I accidentally fell asleep. When I woke up there was all ARSENAL 5 CHELSEA 3 and our captain telling the world THE GAME WAS A GIFT TO THE WORLD.
Of all the games I had to miss, I missed the best one yet. Not even Blackburn. Not even Newcastle. Good God.
Being a fan in Asia is harsh.
C-H-3-L-5-E-A v AR53NAL… What a game! Call the fire brigade..RVP is on fire!!!!
we don’t need no water let the mother fucker burn!
Captain Vantastic!!!!
Great result, full of coomitment and desire. I never once lost faith in this team especially the manager. There is a lot to be said, with the summer and start we had we have actually come a long way. Now watch all the doom and gloomers do a complete spin. I never lost faith, ever. And I’ve been arguing over van persie for 3 years now. Top 3 striker in the world!! UP THE GOONERS. Please Wenger get the back line to sit back just a little more. The high line is our only problem against fast opposition.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Gr8 game boys ….no one has said anyfin abt Theo..ΨђåƮ Ǎ̜̣̍ performance from the lad..fanks Theo, used 2 be Ǎ̜̣̍ big critique….
Dont fucking care about new player.. give the damn captain his contract.. double triple the wage in fact.
YESSSSS THE GUNNERS! STICK IT UP ‘EM!!!!
and i hope theo has taught a lesson to all his haters, great performance. especially his goal. and should’ve had 2 assists in first half
Just think how good he’ll be if he can do it every game.. Still, at least he does it in the big ones (Barca 2.2 at the Emirates, anyone?)!
What a game. Anyone else think Terry “slipped” maybe a little too easy? He deserves that for being a complete asstastic knob. Rvp is a badass, don’t expect 5 goals ever these days, but what a game to have them come! Arsenal to the top!
Hello, my name is Robin van Persie and I like to score goals!
Fucking great, get van his new contract now, fuck the chavs, fuck racist terry, now to watch the game again with my tray of beer up the gunners
Donkey Terry didn’t slip he just fell over! Knew he had no chance of catching RVP… Some legend he is…!!!
Fucking spot on, terry the fucking racist fell to the ground like a drunk when he knew he could’ent catch RVP, very embarrassing, and what about scez fucking legend he creams cashley cole and only gets a yellow, brilliant
I asked chelsea fans if its 2008 again. Thats the spirit that beat barca at home. Keep the fire burning.:D
Heh, and Mata picked Chelsea over Arsenal cos he ‘wanted to win things’. I hope one of our chaps was screaming that in his ear at the whistle
[…] Bridge, and done with the help of RVP’s hat trick, which is no mean feat, according to Robin Van Persie himself. Kudos to the man for scoring 27 goals in 26 games this year already! Match reports are available […]
Nice one Eric…. And yeah, top man the scez…. Lays out cashley hole and only a yellow….brilliant!!! Legendary status already….?! On Facebook he said he didn’t know how he was still on field…. Top draw….
