Couldn’t have asked for a better 20th birthday present

Comedian

Happy birthday seb.
Cheers!!!

Thorough

We’re like Bruce Willis and Sam El-Jackson in The Unbreakable – utter opposites. My own birthday present from Arsenal on 28th August was the 8-2 thumping by Man U.

Terje

My 19th as well. Ha ha

Alex

Fin it funny that people were putting pressure on Theo to score or assist & finally after a while he gives 3! Let’s hope for consistency from here on!

Niro

I thought Theo only had 2 assists? Didn’t he assist on RvP’s first two goals, and Coq assisted on the 3rd RvP goal.

For the rest, RvP assisted Ox’s and Henry’s goal, while Arteta’s was unassisted, no?

neutral

Theo assited the Ox’s second

yiannis

You seem to forget his ass to Alex Chamberlain to score his second 🙂

gunner_expat

dont worry, it’s gets a little confusing when there are so many good stats

why is my name required

paul robinson has to take the ball out of the net 60 times playing against us hahaha

and thierry has just scored 11 past him haha!

KenyanGooner

Then you were not so keen. The Ox scored twice and one of them was assisted by Theo. van Persie’s second assist was for the King.

Eric Irish gunner

First time in awhile looking forward to match of the day

Fab

Fascinating that Rambo and TR7s pass patterns were so alike

Master Bates

the game was won in the Wings ,

northerngoon

I feel a lot more confident with Rosicky in the team, especially at the minute when its calm hands we need. Overall good do and thanks for the stats.

matt

Exactly, shame he didn’t get a goal to end his drought

Thorough

Add to that it wasnt even one of his better performances this season. Ramsey, take a bow. You’ll be back when the Mozart leaves the orchestra.

NSD

Rosicky is a good player, just injury prone so it’s hard for him to put together a consistent run of games. Probably one of the best passers of the ball we have, he just needs to improve on his goalscoring record.

If Theo and the Ox keep up this form, does that leave Gervinho on the bench when he come’s back?

Why did Wenger buy Park? Seems a bit of a mystery signing, I’m guessing he’s going to put him on for the last 20 minutes when Thierry goes back to America.

Baz

Gervinho>Theo

Not to put a damper on the game but as soon as AOC came off we were a lot less creative, against 10 men. We scored once.

Yes we bossed the game already but surely you would expect Theo to be ravaging that empty space. Just as AOC was.

Just because he got three assists today does not mean he is still the man to be on the wing. He is still not good enough.

northerngoon

Taking aside the fact I’m a fan of Walcott’s I’m not blind to the fact he has been underperfoming (though it really irks me that people are so fickle when it comes to him especially).

Yesterday we looked less threatening when the Ox went off was not because of anything Theo did wrong but because simply we no longer had both wings covered by two of the fastest players in the Premiership. That and our guys had played their arses off the majority of the match in sub zero temperatures.

Ghostofgoonerspast

And Carlos Vela scored against Barcelona. What a lovely day.

GoonerNugget

Interested to know the number of pre-assists by Rosicky? He seemed to be involved in everything.

gunner16

just one. probably more than Ramsey has had in the last 10 matches. I’ll take one key pass a match thank you.

garyfootscrayaustralia

Spare a thought for Internet Joe – his head may have exploded after this match….

Kafata

Seeing Walcott and Rosicky playing fantastic forward passes and incredibly fast runs… for a moment or two I imagined we were back in the time of the Invincibles.

🙂

northerngoon

That’s what the MotD guys said as well, yesterday was like watching “The Invincibles.”

That’s why I personally get so frustrated, the class and quality we have is arguably second to none. We’re just so inconsistant. I wonder if we had 25 men to pick from rather than 15-16 (well done Wenger/Gazidis/Dick whateverhisname is/Kroenke/whoever you want to blame) we’d be up there with Citeh at the top of the league.

Let’s face it, United are a shadow of their former selves and the fact that those twats from the lane are above is testament to how shite the competition is.

ED

I hate to say it because I think he’s a good kid, but right now, Ramsey plays too slowly right now. Or is it just a coincidence that we were so quick and fluid today?

GoonerNugget

It’s an interesting point. And I agree with you. Perhaps Ramsey is better suited to a deeper midfield role like what Arteta does for us now?

I’m sure we all willing to give him time, but right now we need to play our best team. The movement yesterday was amazing and Rosicky had a lot to do with that.

I feel Ramsey is perhaps lacking some confidence. No doubt he has the technique, but he seems either too cautious or too eager to play a killer pass. Needs to find a good balance.

neutral

I doubt it. I don’t think an extra .8 turnover per game would make a difference. The problem I see with Ramsey is that too often he turns upfield and cannot find a pass, either because he can not see it, or the other players were not available. Anyway, there could be many reasons Arsenal played well yesterday, -because the wingers perfromed, or Coq at right back and TV growing into the left back position (although he still looks afraid to take anyone on in the opposition third), Theo finding his form, but for how long? btw, I would prefer… Read more »

Schpunky

I like Ramsey, he’s got talent, he just seems to lack a but of speed of thought, and he back heels, every game tries 800 backheels. Unfortunately I font think rosicky will be fit for a long stretch of games again, so until the return if wilshere we will still see Ramsey. Though he is a nice option after rosicky .8 more giveaways and 1.3 turnovers are huge! Just ask my sunday league.

Bunburyist

I really think Rosicky deserves to start now ahead of Ramsey. Just seeing how much quicker Rosicky turns defence into attack today made me realise what we’ve been missing for a while now. He’s much more direct, and he passes forward. Ramsey mostly passes sideways and backwards, and I believe the stats back me up on that one.

Bunburyist

The moment in this match that most captured the incredible talent of Van Persie was his work for Chamberlain’s first goal (and our third). Unbelievable control, movement, and vision.

Van Persie is world class. We’re privileged to have him.

ramgooner

and that delicious chip he attempts with his right foot.OMG!!!i would love to see him score atleast once this season that way.that is pure class and his assist to ox was a turn and 90 degree assist which was pure vison.but excellent control from ox.none of the other players have that kind of control.can you imagine arhavin, gervinho or theo scoring that one!!!?hopefully they learn and improve.

Comedian

He certainly has an obsession with scoring that kinda goal may be he will try one with his left too. A nice obsession though.

ClvnGnr

It’s funny how one win can seemingly change everything.

[…] Match Report – Video – By the numbers […]

Jino901

Van Persie has scored 50 goals in the last 2 seasons. 22+28. Therefore 40.7% of his Arsenal goals have come in the last 2 seasons.

Mimi

And Van Persie should conuinte to put up these numbers for the foreseeable future because his game doesn’t rely on speed, similar to ohhh Dennis Bergkamp. Look at the difference between Torres and RvP for example. Torres might be indulging in too many London dining establishments that’s he’s lost a step (and quite frankly I don’t see him ever getting it back). RvP on the other hand, knows how to find space and his movement is extraordinary, knows precisely when to pull off defenders and so on. Torres is just a mess to watch these days, but I’m glad that’s… Read more »

Connubial

Probably the best Christmas present I could have asked for

Gooners & Roses

is it just me or Hoillet and N’zonzi are actually two good footballers?

N’zonzi reminds me of Diaby, lanky french player with good height and close control.

Hoillet, well to be the most successful dribbler per game in EPL should mean something right?

Anyway, i really hope Rosicky get another chance to start as i feel he makes a lot of difference in term on tempo and passing speed. Yes, the two passing patterns are the same but you just can see the difference Rosicky bring in our game. Ramsey must watch this from the bench and learn like Sagna.

Cygan's Middle Foot

those who thumb down whenever ramsey is being criticized should be a young girl who only look footballers from their look, or a gay.

Voldermort

What a waste of a brain.

Cromulus

Brain? What brain?

TSOTIA

Have to admit this is the first time I’m reading By the Numbers (a favourite, by the way) in about a month. Good to have a reason to check the stats again.

Snail

Sorry if anyone else has already posted this, but we lost 4-3 to Blackburn at their ground, you seem to think we conceded 5?

Snail

Boo – hve just reread the stats – and now I see what you did there – I hate By the Numbers – it’s too confusing at 11:05 on a Sunday evening when you have a heavy cold.

Now fuck off.

Snail

As you were…

dave

Rosicky was injured for a long time, with a really bad hamstring injury, he has been ‘fit’ for 18 months. and it probably took him at least 6 months from that time to be fully fit and psychologically right. In my opinion, we are seeing the best of Rosicky again this season, which means that it has taken him a long time to be 100%. So with this in mind i think it’s important to give Ramsey some more time. no-one really knows the effect of his leg break on his psychological/physical condition, maybe he has lost some pace for… Read more »

[…] the midfield provides us with stability keeping the ball. Statistics from this match have him with 84 passess complete out of 90 attempted, which is sensational. Too often without him in January we’d lose the ball way too much. He […]
