Peter Hill-Wood believes that star striker Robin van Persie is happy at the Emirates and will not be driven by financial gain when contract talks open with the Gunners hierarchy in the summer.
Taking a swipe at the likes of Samir Na$ri and Emmanuel Adebayor, the long-standing club chairman remarked:
“I think Robin and his family are very happy in London and I don’t think he is solely motivated by money as some players are.”
The long-standing chairman also took the time to chat about possible summer transfer activity trotting out the usual line:
“If we find the right person for the right position we are happy to buy. We have got enough to pay anything but silly prices.”
While Van Persie’s future remains somewhat up in the air, it looks as though Lukas Podolski’s proposed move to the Emirates is moving nearer with the Daily Star claiming Arsenal sent officials to Germany yesterday to conduct his medical.
Given the fact both Yossi Benayoun and Mikel Arteta were signed without any tests, due to time constraints on deadline day, its heartening to see us taking the necessary precautions this time.
Podolski doesn’t have a particularly worrying injury record, although Mark van Bommel did once nobble him (typical spiteful prick) during a training session while he was on the books at Bayern Munich which left him sidelined for a while.
It would be great to see him square up with Barton.
Sadly, Barton will be in the Championship next season.

Lukas Podolski is not Polish. He was born in Poland into an ethnic German family and received the German citizenship (two years old) in 1987, after his family moved (“back”) to Germany.
His move to Arsenal is a good choice. As a German, I always thought, Podolski would sooner or later play in EPL. Good luck to him and Arsenal!!!

Well, it was not quite like that. They actually have a very good relation (Podolski and Solbakken). Often Podolski runs over to celebrate with his manager after scoring goals this season. This picture is taken when Podolski are demonstrating to Solbakken what the referee mistankely saw him do.

With months away from the transfer re-opening it would definitely be to our advantage to properly evaluate Podolski medically. The last minute efforts at the end of last summer will surely not be repeated. Knowing Arsene’s distate for price inflation from tournaments I’m hoping/counting on most if not all transfer dealings to be completed before Euro.
I think the biggest condition to the Podolski transfer is that we qualify for the CL. Supposedly the contract “offer” will be void if we were to fail to qualify.

Lukas Podolski is the type of quality signing Wenger has made periodically throughout his tenure. I think it signals a return to the transfer policy of days gone by, where Dein, despite his current absence, walked hand in hand with Wenger to create a formidably talented scouting, negotiating and all round transfer team.

There is no way on god’s green earth the Arsenal will sign all of those players. We’d be looking at an expenditure of > 60 million pounds before you factor in wages. In recent memory we have only come close to that last summer. But then we recouped most of last summer’s outlay by selling 3 first team players. The way i see it is simple. Arsene wants to sign Goldi Poldi before the price inflation of the Euros, so we have to get the negotiations done and contracts signed now. And if we are going to get any contracts signed now a medical is mandatory. If he fails a medical at the end of the season we wnt be able to go back to Cologne and cancel the deal, thats part of the risk we are taking to avoid the price inflation.
