Arsenal announced yesterday they would be playing in Malaysia for the second consecutive summer as part of their summer tour.
The Gunners will take on a Malaysia XI on July 24th in the Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, as well as holding an open training session the previous day.
Last summer we won 4-0 with goals from Aaron Ramsey, Carlos Vela, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky, and this year’s fixture will be the first game of the pre-season tour. Arsenal will then play managerless Man City in Beijing on July 27th before a fixture in Hong Kong two days later.
Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis said, “Further to the overwhelming success of our visit to Kuala Lumpur in 2011, everyone associated with Arsenal is very excited to once again be visiting Malaysia this year.
“We are delighted that our many loyal fans in Malaysia and neighbouring regions will again have the chance to see their team in action live. We had a fantastic time in Malaysia last year and we are all looking forward to visiting this great country and meeting its wonderful people again in July.”
Due to the London Olympics there is no Emirates Cup this pre-season, a tournament which has been something of a money spinner for the club, so the tour is another chance to open up to new fans and provide new marketing opportunities over the long-term.
Glad the Gunners are coming back! South East Asia is by far the most important region (financially) for PL clubs outside of the UK.
No it isn’t.
Bring in the money all you can!
As a Malaysian fan I’m really happy with the news. I feel appreciated by the club. Last year they came exactly on my birthday (13th July) and this season they come back a bit late but I’m still very excited. Thank you Arsenal for giving me another great birthday present. I’ll make sure I’ll be there at Bukit Jalil. The only thing that upset me is they will come on fasting month.
no prob.we buka puasa together on the stadium
FFS come to South Africa!
I hope we will mix up our tours a bit, sure its great for all the Asian fans but what about a tour of the States. The marketing is already there with NY Red Bulls and we have huge support there.
The last time they went to Malaysia, I took a plane, a bus and a train to get there to watch the match live. Sadly, the trip was tarnished by a pick pocket just 2 hours before my flight back home. I think i’ll give it a miss this time sadly.
Managerless Man City – excuse the text speak, but pmsl.
Yeah, they finally heard the call to come to Malaysia! Gunners forever….!
nice! when are the boys coming to abuja-nigeria? there are more gooners here than anywhere in the whole universe (london included). we have waited long enough!!
So will Arsenal still be coming to Nigeria this year?
In my time in Malaysia I met a lot of gooners, so I am glad they get to see them, but goddammit Arsenal, come to fucking America. You did SE Asia last year, mix it the fuck up. I have seen RM, Barca, manure, chelski, Celtic, and a few others, but Arsenal haven’t so much as even acknowledge that this place exists. I would travel across the country and follow them without even thinking about it. I really thought that maybe, just maybe this year I could see the club I love in person, but I guess I will have… Read more »
