It’s at this time of year that important decisions are made about the immediate futures of many of Arsenal’s youngsters, although in the case of Philip Roberts, there should not be too much deliberation on Liam Brady’s part when he has to decide whether to hand his compatriot a professional contract.
Centre forward Roberts has impressed since joining on scholarship terms from Norwich City in summer 2010 and bedded in well in his first season with the club, scoring 4 goals in 15 appearances for the under-18s and, this season, is Arsenal’s top scorer at that level, having found the net nine times, whilst also becoming an increasingly regular presence in the Reserve squad.
Good at holding the ball up and creating chances for others, Roberts did endure something of a barren streak in front of goal during the Winter following a purple patch in October, and can be shoved off the ball too easily against more physical opponents, but the 18 year old should gain the opportunity to develop further with the second string next campaign.
He seems like a good prospect. I think we might send him on loan next season to a League 2 or League 1 club if possible.
his name does not rhyme with rude words or sound rude in any way. therefore, i have little to say about this young chap.
Still, can we call him PipBob?
Philbert has a nice ring
That name ‘phillip roberts’, sounds so agent-ish but he’s a welcomed and an ok talent.
Nothing to write home about, but I like the look of him. Good luck to the lad. Hope he gets a chance and buries it.
Looks sort of like Clichy from that pic
just need a terence
“scoring 4 goals in 15 appearances for the under-18s and, this season, is Arsenal’s top scorer at that level, having found the net nine times”
I don’t understand. Did he score 4 goals or 9 goals?
2010-2011 Season he scored four, 2011-2012 he scores nine, I believe.
