Arsenal 5-1 West Ham – player ratings

A win, at last! A 5-1 spanking of West Ham saw a return to some kind of form, a very sad Walrus, and the players rated as follows:

Wojciech Szczesny: 7/10 – Not a lot to do really, can’t criticise for the goal, showed some decent ‘presence’.

Bacary Sagna:  7/10 – More like the Sagna we all know

Per Mertesacker: 7/10 – Solid, clever movement for Arsenal’s second

Thomas Vermaelen: 7/10 – Limped off in the second half, which is a worry, but strong until then

Kieran Gibbs: 7/10 – Didn’t shine like he has recently, but has added consistency to his game this season which is good too see.

Aaron Ramsey: 8/10 – His best game in an Arsenal shirt? Kept things simple, nothing fancy, and it worked very well. Encouraging.

Jack Wilshere: 7/10 – Effervescent as usual, some lovely passing, combined well with Podolski in particular.

Santi Cazorla: 7.5/10 – A goal, an outrageously good free kick with his ‘wrong’ foot and played with a smile on his face.

Lukas Podolski: 9.5/10 – Fantastic performance with loads of end product. The goal was a belter and with three assists to his name clearly the man of the match

Theo Walcott: 7/10 – Took his goal very well, got an assist from a corner too, but a bit hesitant a couple of times when more decisive play could have provided goalscoring chances for him and others.

Oliver Giroud: 9/10 – Got the backing of Robert Pires before the game who said he’d score goals. Bobby is as wise as he is handsome. Giroud, meanwhile, is becoming something of a penalty box poacher, both finishes excellent.

Subs

Andre Santos: 6/10 – Replaced Podolski, did fine.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 6/10 – Came on for Giroud, some strong running but now needs to stay fit on a regular basis and challenge harder for a first-team spot.

Laurent Koscielny: 6/10 – He played

You forgot to rate Kos, blogs!

Bee

who took over captaincy when verm was subbed?

paddlejack

It was Jack 😀

remember the invincibles, because we aren't good anymore

was it? thought it would’ve been Sagna.

gooner

Diame? He came off the bench too….

…… Good squad depth.

big dawg

Koscielny ???

not gonna renew season ticket

Koscielny deserves a 9.5/10 for overcoming his passion/desire to rugby-tackle an opponent in the penalty box!

Nero

By the way, there are tens of thousands of Arsenal fans out there ready to take over your season ticket. I couldn’t find a ticket for 3.5 of the 4 months I was in London last year so anyone willing to give up their ticket as a statement(financial reasons entirely understandable) is pretty fucking dumb, you’re the only one losing since there are plenty others ready to take your place. Unless you’re just not into watching the team anymore, in which case good riddance, less fake fans = better atmosphere!

HoldinMyGroin
nishanth

Jack deserves more than 7 surely. Was involved in the first, 4th and 5th goal and generally had an outstanding game. Him and Ramsey looked good in midfield yesterday.Apparently Ramsey completed around 120 passes yesterday

Arsenal > Spurs

I was at the game – Jack was brilliant. He got the ball out of a tight spot (several WHU players were around him) for the 4th goal.

Gibbs probably deserves another point more for his excellence in defence. He was laser-precise with his tackling.

nujt

Yep 123 passes at a 95% completion rate. The next highest was Jack with 78 passes at 86%. I looked at Ramsey’s numbers and thought for a second it was actually Arteta playing.

The Loving Hands of Wenger

I forgot we even had Arteta last night.

Aussie Bruce

Completely agree with nishanth. Just rewatched the second half, Jack was the catalyst for most of our good play. Deserves at least an 8.

Eric Irish gunner

Agree he drove the team forward

d-holio

Ramsey’s best game was early in the season against Man City. He did fine last night though. Kept it simple and tidy. Good platform not just for him, but for the whole team to draw on some much needed confidence. We needed this Giroud at Chelsea! Well done on his brace. Jack looking better by the game and Santi’s still not quite back to his best yet, but showed some good signs tonight. And how about that LuLu! We badly missed him at Chelsea. Everything good went through him. 1 beautiful belter of a goal and 3 assists in his… Read more »

The Dude

I love Giroud’s dink over the top through balls, he has created quite a few goals this season with those.

Glad to see Ramsey play centrally and play really well, as his confidence grows I am sure he will become quite the player.

AndwhataboutLukas

Yep. 3. All immaculately weighted.

Andrew Morgan

This has really ticked me off. Why has someone disliked The Dude’s comment about Ramsey? What Arsenal fan doesnt want their players to get confident, play better and develop?

Attasmani

Maybe the person is a west ham player that got done by Giroud’s lovely pass and disliked that part? Apart from that it could only be a spud or a stork, in which case that person shouldn’t have access to the internet in first place

Giroud's perfectly chiseled face

Despite being one of the best finishers in the world, podolski is so unselfish and he rarely wastes chances. I thought podolski would smash in the little dink by Giroud, but he selflessly passed to cazorla. Great team player on his day. Glad he was rested, we could use him against Brighton this weekend.

jack jack jack

He’s a proper Arsenal player. Brilliant technique, incredibly direct and completely unselfish. I never feel like he’ll shank a cross or slice a shot, and after years of unpredictable players he’s a breath of fresh air. He just knows when to hit the counterattack and exactly how to do it. It’s lovely to watch.

Hank

Who saw Giroud jump over Poldi whilst celebrating only to land on his beautiful face?

nujt

Heh. I remember Poldi resisting Giroud jumping on him after HFB scored at Upton Park. I don’t think Poldi likes to be jumped on.

shuggietodd

A great game last night… great atmosphere… great goals too. I can’t wait to see Podolski’s again – belter!

I thought that Walcott was MOTM. As soon as he touched the ball something happened and the Hammers defenders shit themselves.

I thought that we played with the handbrake on after the injury, which was a nice touch. There were definitely more goals there, but then that’s why we’re different to Chelsea!

Joe

i wouldn’t say the atmosphere was that great. for the first half the west ham fans were much louder and mocking us and we had no reply. the team shut them up for us.

_

Surely you don’t think theo had a better game than giroud and podolski, do you? He hadn’t had a bad game either, it was quite good and his goal was very good, but both podolski and giroud had several moments of pure brilliance, therefore, higher rating for them.

TomJ

Jack was the best player on the pitch last night. Good to see him being helped by several players who also showed commitment, including the front 3 who were excellent. Its happiness when the team clicks. We forget a lot of this squad never played together before this season

TH

Entire front three were great really. I know Theo has some bridges to build with some people but he was electric last night. Got in behind constantly, delivery was spot on and control that he lacks often was spot on.

His rating below the others seems more a case of arseblog’s odd campaign. Or the myth of him being less consistent than our other players?

But yeah, could say this after every match rating really. WHAT HAS THEO DONE FOR BLOGS LATELY EH??

o_jay

I seem to recall 2 or 3 occasions where he could have passed for other onrushing players but either chose to dwell on the ball or attempted outrageous near post shots.
I think he can learn a bit from Poldi’s unselfishness.

TENN

I unapologetically say that Walcott is still a bit of a twat. If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have let his advisors hold the club captive like he did. Let us not forget the earth shattering autobiography. Don’t know what we would have done without that one.

Glory Hunter

I have to agree a goal & an assist yet he gets a 7!!!
Let it go blogs, he’s signed an extension!

Q

No, I agree with blogs. Really glad he signed, but he’s still a bit too “consistent in patches”.

Nicolae

No specials rating?*sigh* and I died a little bit inside

Old bill evacuating naughty West Ham Fans in second half 10/10

Merlin's Panini

Great to see loads of 7+ ratings for a change. The whole team put in a good shift. I would give everyone an extra mark for making the walrus look even more miserable than usual.

Ninad Kuchekar

Absolutely awesome football…We would’ve killed Barca, Real, manu put together on the pitch!
Above all, I loved Ramsey yesterday. Definitely his best game in an Arsenal jersey….he should be played more regularly there. Blogs, if we could get a stat of the number of forward passes as opposed to the backward passes..?
Now for some consistency.
COYG!

North Bank Gooner

Said the same to a mate this morning, for 12 minutes we were the best in the world. Dont think any team could have lived with us.

Was nice that Fat Sam showed a bit of class and said as much 😉

Happy Gooner this morning 😀

jsergio

Bacary gets an 8 from me. He was fantastic. had little or no cover and consistently won the ball back and was involved with attacks. Exactly what you want from your wingback.

diaby

He was a million times improved from what we’ve seen lately, very reassuring to see!!

not gonna renew season ticket

Giroud deserves an extra point for glossing over a poorly-taken Theo corner for goal #2! I don’t think the way it turned out was planned. Good reflexes from Giroud!

jsergio

definitely planned, you could see by the players movement and the way Theo placed it to the near post. 100%. Perfect corner from Theo

Cody

Watch it again, it was definitely planned.

Unyoke The Ox

It was planned, but maybe Theo wanted to play it a little higher for a near post header instead? Either way, it went in, so just enjoy the victory.

Bould's Eyeliner

near post low volley would be harder to defend than a header right by the keeper’s arms. force him low and u open more options. plus kicks have more power – jask got some hands on giroud’s ball, but it still went in.

(maybe) gunner renew season ticket

Yes I agree it was ‘planned’ but I just saying it was supposed to go to Giroud’s forehead (not his left boot).

Rutu

Ramsey and Wilshere Bossed the midfield.
Good Signs!
Great Result!
Up The Arsenal!

[…] report – Player ratings – […]

Charles

Oh, overscalung up. The rating is makung more sense by first 20 mins if second half. If deserve rating this for whole game, it is difficult to see any further improvement and impetus to move up league ranking.

Eric Irish gunner

What’s this lingo

Michu

Walcott 7?????
You serious?
He was almost as good as poldi. Looked deadly every time he had the ball.
At least a 9.
Giroud 8.5.

Harish

Walcott may have looked as deadly as Podolski, but Poldi had more to show for it.

And that’s not a jab at Walcott, Lukas literally got the most out of it with his goal and assists.

Rocky

Great game – started well, good focus and turned it up when needed… Ratings spot on – though I thought Per and Gibbs were outstanding at the back……Also,
Gareth Bale with a hilarious tweet showing his class, incredulous that cheating/bullying should be punished: “Unbelievable decision by the referee to send Hazard off but congrats to Swansea. Who’d have predicted this final?!”
What a prat!

TeeCee

That’s strange. I’ve seen the video and when the ball boy falls on the ball, while there is a bit of contact from Hazard it’s clearly a dive.
That pathetic fall onto the ball to get a result for the team looked rather chimp-like to me.

Harish

So you’re saying it’s that Welshman,Bale, or possibly a younger brother? Intriguing…

A N Other

Podolski should be 10 out of 10.

garyfootscrayaustralia

….if he does it in a final that wins us a trophy, then yes, he can have a 10.

deano

They can all have a ten if that happens.

steve boulds hairdresser

now lets hope ramsey can build on this performance and realise his potential…

North Bank Gooner

you must admit, despite the constant confidence sapping hating, he has put a good little run of performances together, last nights being exceptional.

showing the reasons a few of us have stayed patient, keep it up Aaron!

Dick Swiveller

Aye, he’s looked bright the last few games and I think the lack of pressure to create when playing that deep role really helped him out, him and Wilshere dovetalied rather nicely in the middle too.

Merkin

This game is why we watch football. This game is why we watch and love Arsenal. Twenty minutes of brilliance. Twenty minutes of magic.

giles

podolski’s cross for walcott….Hawwwwwwwwhhh…………

Our Welsh Ball Boy

Ramsey was excellent in that water-carrying role. It seems to suit his measured passing rather than riskier quicker passing further up the field.

Still need a bigger physical presence in there if (when) Diaby doesn’t stay fit.
Oh and a striker.

Come on board spend some money!

Lifetime Gooner

Sorry Blogs, I know that these ratings are your opinion, to which I agree to all but one.
I think that Gibbs was outstanding, attacking and defending on that left flank. And I dont think Poldi would have played like that knowing he had Santos to work with.
Im just proud we getting some homegrown, quality, hardworking, dedicated Arsenal boys in the team. Future is bright with them.

Mexespistols

Walcott was outstanding again last night. There’s not mich he could have done better. Cut him some slack. Roll on Brighton!

weedwacker

Just love watching Arsenal when they play this way and maybe we will sign Villa after all. Ramsey was really good Theo is a terror Giroud has mean skills and that lazy german Lucas faultless. It seems a lot of our problems are in our head not enough belief sometimes. Seems a lot more energy coming from the base of midfield the last couple of games from Coq and Ramsey, they seem to take a few more risks with the outball than Arteta does. Defo need to bolster the team a bit and fill the place up a bit. Its… Read more »

Lanesra

Some of Giroud’s flicks ‘n touches have been sublime this season… he is more than a striker / handsome hunk of a man!

Gibbs was exceptional (other then the mistake which lead to the goal), tackling, passing, covering, all wonderful to see.

AW gets 8/10 for showing tactical flexibility – switching to 4-4-2 when Santos came on was intriguing, I guess it pleases Theobald (who is still FAR far more effective as a “winger-cum-goblet, sorry striker).

Squillaci

who was captain after verma went off? couldnt not see for the life of me last night.

lockednloaded

sir jack Wilshire took the armband

rossi88

Great to see a little bit of the team we could be. Great performance. Just need to take this into games with the bigger teams….in fact, every team we play. They need to believe they are good. Need some arrogance…..we are the arsenal!

[…] 来源:[Arseblog News] […]

kid_gooner

Excellent performance and how we should always play against the lesser teams. Only problem is that we can’t do that against Chelsea, Spurs or Utd; we’d be too exposed at the back. The middle three of Carzola, Wilshere and Ramsey are probably our most attacking combination and we need to find a way of replicating that devastating attacking display with a more solid defensive base.

AConnectiutGoonerinKingArsene'sCourt

Who was that guy in the #16 shirt? Couldn’t have been Ramsey. I didn’t see a single heel flick all night.

In all seriousness, that was the best I’ve ever seen him play. In that holding role, he was composed and sensible…worth another go at that spot. Unless, of course, we go out and sign a DM.

Save 75 cents

I have been saying it all season and I will continue to do so. My favorite attribute of Giroud is his clever link up play with those around him with the quick flicks and great knock downs. His looks don’t hurt either says my wife…..

Hurricane

Ramsey on the wing is fucking shit, but he’s beautiful in midfield

Midgunner

Think both Walcott and jack were quailty and worth eight apiece.

Great goals by Giroud but a nine is stretching it.

Gunner Fanatic

If anyone still thinks that Ramsey’s just dead meat , he either does not know how to play football at all or he is definitely not a gunners fan.

And I really like you Andrew Mangan for what ever you write.
