Rather oddly, Theo Walcott says that Arsenal’s hopes of keeping a clean sheet last night against Bayern Munich were thwarted by the fates.
Regardless of how we might have played, it appears to have been written that the Germans would score. Speaking after the game, Walcott said, “We wanted to keep a clean sheet but it wasn’t meant to be. They didn’t create too much but they took their chances when they came. We need to dominate like we did in the second half. We need not to dwell on this result and when we go over there we’ve got to be positive.
“Last season against AC Milan we were 4-0 down and we did very well at home. We’ve got to show what we can do and play without any fear because we’ve got nothing to lose.
“We always felt that if we got the goal they might stumble a little bit, but they dealt with it quite well and they got that killer blow.
And the England winger reckons the team need to try and find a silver lining of some kind.
“We can’t be down in the dumps about it,” he continued. “We’ve got to try and take the positives and learn from it. I thought we fought quite well and battled for each other.”
I think it’s fair to say that destiny or a hidden power which controls future events wasn’t quite what Theo meant. It was probably just a bit of bland, footballer-speak. Talk a lot, say little.
Although it might bring some comfort to fans to know there is an evil force at work, preventing us from reaching our potential. We shall call him:
ZUUL PHILCOLLINS
Damn him, damn him all to hell. Every time we try and win something, he releases he noxious ooze in the air, tonight. No wonder we’re doooooooooomed.
Fuck off, Theo.
When he plays so wonderfully and then talks as if its all a given that we would lose before, you wonder what kind of monster arsenal has in theo. fighting for himself and his money but not for the team. Winning and belief is also down to effort. They need to put in the effort. It was lacking. The mental awareness off what is going on isn’t there. How many times are we second to react? It’s down to a lack of care. Not a lack of quality necessarily.unfortunate we chose him over Bale.
It’ll take a miracle to triumph in Munich. Theo and the lads know that but if we can show some more Jack Wilshere-esque heart in the 2nd leg, I won’t be too downbeat about losing to a quality side like Bayern.
That being said, Theo should not play upfront again this season. Though he signed a contract already and the appeasing was done!
Exactly! Let’s face it, we’re already out of the Champions League, but the team really need to go out with a bang in the second leg, something they can look back on and say “hey, we can be proud of that”, because let’s face it, there was little to be proud of yesterday aside from a second half fightback which was pretty much killed off by Manzukic’s goal.
The team could really use some more self belief, and a good performance (regardless of the overall result) at the Allianz Arena could install that.
Arsenal have become reliant on young Jack Wilshere and surround him with average players to put profit over trophies. Imagine if he played alongside Isco, Thiago, Jovetic, Shaarawy…
He might well be soon………….
Why Wilshere needs to be on Kroos control: http://footballsimple.wordpress.com/2013/02/20/why-wilshere-needs-to-be-on-kroos-control/
Scraping the barrel…
Were we really gonna hear anything else from the players? Footballers are all about staying positive and bla bla. Wheres the passion and the commitment? Anyway ill be there on Saturday cheering the gooners on as per!
Theo playing through the middle isn’t meant to be. Our tactic of trying to find him with the long ball made him look like a child. It can’t be denied that winning those sort of balls is Giroud’s major strength…
His utter lack of positional awareness and ability/willingness to seek or control the ball don’t help much either.
Theo couldn’t win an aerial ball to save his life, and it really showed yesterday. Mandzucic was a monster for them and won so many
To be fair, I think anyone as small as Theo is going to have massive trouble with Dante and Van Buyten. They’re bloody monsters.
I do wish every player would just shut it.
Can shite on all you want about “passion & commitment”…..but under Wenger in the last five year’s they only players who looked like they really cared are Cesc,Jack and Van Persie strangely.
The rest are happy to just trundle along
Van persie?? Are u serious? He only came to good form after 6 seasons and then he fucked off. Just cos he was scoring goals doesnt mean he cared. Cesc yes, jack yes but jesus not van persie
Do you really think Van Persie only came good after 6 seasons? He may have only sorted his injury problems but he was always a quality player before then. As fans I find it funny that rewrite history to suit our agenda.
Get your head out of your arse Walcott.
… and get your arse our of your head! I might add… stop demanding to play centre-forward, and stop volunteering to take free-kicks and corners.
With all that pace you’ve got, was it too much of an ask for you to track back that Blackburn player who ended up scoring with their only shot of the match? Players who get paid a lot less than GBP100k-a-week actually make these efforts. Look at Arjen Robben FFS… the fastest he ran last night was when tracking back to defend against a penetrating Vermalen!
AND he passed the ball instead of making space and spamming a shot at the keeper, don’t know who it was but it certainly wasn’t the Robben I’ve seen in the last few years
Is he talking about his career as a cf?
Wasn’t meant to be sounds about right. You’re way good at the right. Your pace and a little bit linear footballing brain suits you well out wide and you can often cut in take a left shot. Or, switch flanks if you wish a rightie… Good luck!
gotta love it, a 100k a week player who insisted he wanted to play as a forward now blaming the ‘fates’ after a shit performance and result.
Be fair. He didn’t ask for the 100k p/w, that was just fate.
Haha.
I read a few lines.
We wanted to keep a clean sheet. Lol ed so hard. Haha.
Am i the only one who thinks that Wilshere didnt play well last night? I think people are getting swayed by Andy Townsend and Tydlseys never ending praises for him on utv. He made a few runs out of deep in midfield but he gave the ball away most of the time. And his touch was off too. Arteta was getting stick from the utv commentators and he didnt play any worse. Wilshere only 21 and still a lot to learn. It showed last night against superior opposition.
Yes
5 likes proves otherwise
It looked to me like Wilshere was the only midfielder who showed any dynamism. Arteta is fast becoming Denilson with his sideways passing. If all our team showed the same effort as Jack I think we’d have faired a little better.
No, he wasn’t brilliant, in fact I’d say he was on a par with the rest of our midfield last night, both Rambo (if you ignore his inability to head the ball, then again it was Van Buyten…) and Arteta did a lot of work and it could have been so much worse if not for them.
Then again, if any other teenager put in a performance like that against a side *that* good then we’d be giving him major props.
It wasn’t meant to be? how about we approach the games with a little more self belief….
I believe.
The clues were there all along:
1) Genesis describes mans expulsion from paradise.
2) Phil Collins was in Genesis.
3) Phil Collins isn’t called Adam or Eve.
4) The snake in Genesis isn’t named.
5) Phil Collins must therefore be the snake mentioned in Genesis*.
6) Phil Collins is responsible for everything bad in the world.
*Peter Gabriel was named after an apostle and an angel, so he can’t be the snake, and I don’t know the names of the other members, so I can safely rule them out.
QED
hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa….
what the hell…
It wasn’t meant to be *sigh*
Cue i dreamed a dream
New book title: ”Little T down in the dumps” enduring image isn’t it? Football eh, marvellous?!
I’m sure that’s exactly what Jack Wilshere thought after the game.
he thought that if they conceeded they would stumble- How bout that they’re top level sportsmen who don’t stumble if they are winning 2 – 1, only fuckwits do that. How bout if we can get one then we can get two kind of attitude, self responsibility.
What’s he supposed to say? ” we are an average team of over paid journeyman footballers who were beaten by a team who are on a different planet to us”
might of been a step in the direction of self discovery
I’ve never said this before, but it’s time Arsenal part ways with Arsene Wenger.
It feel a bit like breaking up with a long term girlfriend. You lover her for all that she’s done for you and wish things could work out, but she keeps making the same mistakes and you know she’s just not right for you in the future.
Sorry Arsene, but it’s time we broke up. You can stay til you find your own place.
*tears
How can she stay when you’re dying to move your new bird in?
If I have to compare AW to a woman, it would be like an aging mother.
Trying her best, under circumstances, to keep her family together and getting the best possible for them. Sure, she is not doing as brilliant as before, but I cannot doubt she is trying.
Of course, we can send her off to an old peoples’ home. But i doubt if we can just go and buy another mother.
“I thought we fought quite well and battled for each other.”
What a load of bollocks. We were doing anything but that. We saw the game, I saw the game, and no one was playing for each other, let alone “battling it”.
Our players are good players, they have passion and do work- the problem is they are just thick. For example, the bayern players worked the ref out early on, many temas do but us, never. Some of the players can’t seem to get it positionally. Winning smart is never on the cards.
I was a great fan of Theo’s and every day he prolonged the signing, I hoped he would sign and stay. Till I saw his interview where he said “it was about time he got to play as CF”. It meant only one thing to me, that Theo fancied himself as the CF when RvP left and wanted the position for himself. How could he then tolerate the signing of any other CF? Theo himself had insisted it was not about money, but his desired role of a striker. No manager could/would agree to sign a player on such conditions.… Read more »
I wish Theo would stop talking, it’s just a non stop stream of nonsense, coming up with stuff that he thinks he should say to sound loke an old pro but actually mean bugger all.
Can’t we call the invisible noxious force Piers Morgan?
BREAKING NEWS: Pier Morgan has just flip-flopped his views on gun-control, after viewing last night’s embarrassing defeat.
For the return leg Im suggestin that AW saves his best playets for the fight to get 4th place. CL has to be fougjt nxt season in 2 weeks time. Its over. Its damn over!! Migjt as well let vito manone, oxlade, gervinho, diaby, jerkinson & the likes to play.
Why? We need three goals.
Yes, we’re up against Bayern, but for fuck’s sake, we are ARSENAL. If our fans are willing to settle for this kind of small-club mentality, how can we turn around in summer and accuse the board of a lack of ambition?
I expect us to fight for every game and the return leg at Bayern is no different.
yeah and when we get butt-fucked 6-0 we can say “we only had the kids out”
seriously though – I agree with you.
Theo isn’t a bad striker, and yeah his performance last night was far from acceptable, and this interview is much of the same, but he’s pulled it out of the bag on many an occasion this season. However, the tactical approach to the game last night was all wrong. To leave him up top with Van Buyten and Dante was always unlikely to pay off, even more so with us lumping long balls at him. I genuinely believe he’d be better in a partnership with Giroud up top rather than one or the other. Giroud can win those balls, and… Read more »
I still think Theo is good for the striker’s spot except, he needs to play alongside Giroud for the knockdowns. So ideally he would work in a 4-4-2, rather than a 4-5-1 that we played yesterday. And in that case, we really need those wide players to stay out wide – they kept cutting in and running into the central players, thereby attracting two or three of ze german mids to stop them rather than one. The glaring difference for me was the positional discipline between the two teams and that, for me, is down to the players trusting each… Read more »
Responding to people who say Van Persie didn’t care I’ll direct you to the Wigan and Newcastle games last season.
Just because he transformed into a cunt overnight…which is true, doesn’t mean he didn’t care
Yeah, he cared about putting himself in the shop window…
He cared all season. He made it clear that performing at the level that he did he wanted to be successful at Arsenal. All he wanted was quality which was lacking for most of the season due to the 2011 summer transfer debacle.
Theo kiss my arsenal loving backside . Show some belief in the boys
One hundred grand a week….crazyfuckingworldwelivein.
During the last seven Summers Theo and all the other players said Arsenal is not just a fourth placed Premier league side. We are going to win trophies this season the glory days are back the players promise. Now is the time all the players start telling us that winning the fouth place Wenger trophy and finishing in front of Spurs is all that matters. In the coming summer they will again tell us that 4th place means nothing and that next season we will win all the trophies. What makes it worse half the Arsenal supporters believe them !!!
i begin to imagine what the game would have been like if Walcott had started from the flank with Giroud in centre Forward….Despite the -ve’s, i think the team displayed an improved quality, Rosiky brought his A-game and Wilshere displayed his increasing skill and strength of character. Really, we’ve got nothing to loose at Munich…but I will never write us off yet. I still love Arsenal FC and i’m not disappointed cos I’ve learnt to manage my expectations.
#iBelieve
Let’s be honest, he’s a joke player. Every time he speaks a bunch of crap comes out. Same for Arteta and Vermaelen… just talk complete shite. Club has no characters. Only Wilshere says anything remotely intelligent, and even then it’s all bluster.
To be honest, I’m not sure what they can say under the circumstances, but it would be better if these overpaid, overrated freaks said “no comment”. Footballers are so badly educated they shouldn’t be allowed to speak in public.

Yes Theo, you are finally speaking sense, i quote “We’ve got to try and take the positives and learn from it”.
So lets hope Theo takes his own advise and stops demanding to play up front cause he is NOT A STRIKER and the only time he did anything postive was playing on the flank.
Further more i have no doubt it is in Theos contract that he has to play up front for some games, thats why he started up front yesterday.
Theo playing as a lone striker is still in development. I don’t see why Wenger feels he will be successful against a team like Bayern whose defenders a used to World class strikers. Walcotts isn’t ready for that role at this level. He needs more time against weaker defenses to learn. The same goes for any developing player as promising as they might look. Giroud should have started with Walcott on the wing. I feel starting him as the lone man was more defensive than attacking. It doesn’t seem that Walcott wants to defend anymore. Talk about being selfish. Wenger… Read more »

does giroud miss more goals than adeborer? i’m getting fed up of the moneyshots of giroud’s face as he misses another sitter.
Consider the fact that Giroud doesn’t get as many chances as Adebayor got…Giroud’s chance-to-goal conversion rate is probably 3-1; Adebayors was somewhere in the lines of 9 – 1 (He has improved though)
Giroud’s attempt against Bayern was a difficult chance. It wasn’t a sitter. He had half the goal to aim at. When Theo’s cross came to him, he had two defenders between him and the goal keeper. And the defender to his front-left was blocking that half of the goal. Giroud had only half of the goal to aim at, and unlucky for him, Nueur was positioned on that side of the goal. Neither did Giroud have all the time in the world. He had two defenders just in front of him. He took his chance with his first touch. Just… Read more »
