We can talk about Ramsey, Ozil, etc, players giving the team confidence and putting the goals in, but actually when we play it’s at the back, and in particular the full backs that are the bedrock of the team. The difference with Ramsey this season (carried on from end of last) is he has been more robust. His passing percentage is still the same and that has always been his strong suit. But he used to get bundled off the ball a lot and showed no recovery speed. And honestly I think that speaks loads of Aaron’s character – he was riding pretty high at the end of last season, but rather than rest on that it seems fairly obvious to me that he busted his ass during off season to get his finishing back, to work on his upper body strength and improve his all round game. Just for the record (no pun intended), I’ve seen a lot of Gooners talking about our “record number of EPL away wins”. To put everyone straight, I believe our current run of eight EPL away victories ties with our previous best of 2001-2, but the record for consecutive away wins in the Premier League is 11, set by Chelsea in 2008 (according to the BBC).
