Wilshere glad of ‘big point’

Jack Wilshere says Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at West Brom could prove a valuable point come the end of the season.

The midfielder’s equalising goal ensured the unbeaten run continued, and although there was some disappointment over the result from fans, Wilshere feels it was a good outcome against a very difficult opponent.

“It was a big point,” he told Arsenal Player. “Going into an international break you don’t want to be going into a loss where you’ve got time to think about it.

“This is a tough place to come, especially when you’re 1-0 down going into the last 30 minutes. But we played well and we’ll take the positives.

There’s no easy game in the Premier League as you can see. Tottenham lost at home, big teams are losing, but we’ve won a few games now so people are starting to think ‘Oh we’ll win this one, we’ll win that one’, but it wasn’t easy today. I think we’ll look back on this point at the end of the season as a good one.”

Touching on the team’s character, he said, “People have said we’ve lacked that in the last few years but we gained that at the end of last season and have carried it on this season, we’ve added a few more players, top quality players and we’re looking good now. We have to get that winning mentality.”

And after the storm in the teacup that was the smoking story, Wilshere was keen to fess up and put it behind him.

“I made a mistake. I’m not a smoker, I spoke with the boss and he put me in the team. Hopefully I’ve repaid him.”

And hopefully that will be the end of the hilarious ‘smoking’ gags that have been going around ever since this happened.

I really hope it ends all those bad smoking gags too. That would be tar-rific.

I was genuinely having a beef and Smokin’ Jack BBQ Sauce sandwich while reading this.

Just never seems to give in this lad…he’s been competing at the top and just now we see the united scums crowing over Januzaj…

..not that he’s bad or anything but if they want the Belgian to play for England, he’s gotta be better than Jack, the OX and Walcott

Ooh to be a Gooner!!!

mat

Credits to him as he handle the smoking controversy well and improving his game in the 2nd half after a below par 1st half display. Got his goal and a vital point.

Hope he and the lads come back stronger after the interlull and keep the good runs going.

Casual Gooner

We can obviously see the joint effort in putting this story to rest. It would be a real drag to see all of Wilshere’s hard work go up in flames. It may all be smoke and mirrors, butt I personally think that Wilshere is going to light it up in his next match. It’s going to take more than one bad half to put him out.

I’ll get my coat. And my cigarettes.

DangerMouse

By the way whats the deal with Jack getting his ankles kicked off him every game and rarely getting a free kick. Its getting fucking annoying.

nujt

The next fucktard who tries that on Jack better pray to whatever god they pray to that Flamini doesn’t go Corluka on them.

goonerdal

how lee mason didn’t dim that 1 foul on wilshere penalty worthy i will never know. but i do know he’s a scummy cunt.

Aaron Ramsey

well we shouldve had a pen against us last min

On top of that, he’s getting a reputation for “diving”. His problem isn’t diving, it’s holding onto the ball too long and getting clattered. He gets no protection from refs either.

Henry's beard

I’m just glad he stuck one in tobacco the net…

…yeah whatever, please yourselves.

Attasmani

Haha I like how he say’s “t*ttenham lost at home, big teams are losing”, sounds to me like he means that not just spuds lost, but also teams that are actually good will lose from time to time

GunnAlex

Exhalent performance by Jack in the 2nd half. I’d benson hedges a bet he can keep himself around the starting 11

Double98

It was a Lucky Strike…

Jack Wilshere

Haha very funny people now leave me alone!

the_alchemist

The picture above strongly suggest jack is indeed smoking…..just look at all the smoke around 🙂

Clock End Mike

That was actually a newspaper headline this morning! I bet it’s something the rag-tops and the commentators won’t forget for a while…

Jack’s knocking on the door of being that massive asset we know he can be. He has had to adjust to playing out of position while also trying to deal with coming back from a prolonged layoff, but the signs are there. Not sure he got enough credit for the second goal at Swansea, it really was a fantastic committed tackle. That wasn’t a 50-50, Jack had no right to get it, once Rambo flicked it on. He redeemed himself really well yesterday. The first half highlighted the one area I think he is struggling with right now, composure. Trying… Read more »

Jack took an old fashioned kicking again but it looks like he walks into it sometimes. Maybe he should vary it a bit and play more one touch sometimes so forcing the hatchet boys to stand off him a bit. When you have 3 players closing you down it means someone is in space so instead of taking the extra touch play the pass. He will get it soon enough.

Rogerbij

Im glad he got that goal yesterday, because before then it was probably the worst I have ever seen him play. The first half he was tackled countless times, missed passes… our play was constantly breaking down with him. Sometimes when its not going your way he needs to get back to the simple things and do them well. WB pressed hard on him and it wasnt going well. After the goal he played a beautiful pass to Giroud who nearly went around the keeper. Fair play for fighting on, when I wouldve had him off a half time.

Mooro

Great work with the photo Blogs.

Was either a very cold night or a really shit attempt at smoke rings by Jack.

Jack Player Red?

el bahja

He smokes he scores he smokes when he want!

JGooner

I thought last nite Ozil showed the other side of his game. Willing to get stuck in and working really hard. Not as creative but still a decent performance.

MisterCool

I bet he’d be glad of a big pint as well.

Moe

What a crappy Arsenal performance after watching the game against Napoli. We’re is the consistency? If Arsenal re going to play against mid level teams like this then forget about winning the premier league or any league for that matter. Hopefully when we get the A squad back from injury things will improve. And why would you field Flamini and Arteta together?

UnusualArse

I want some of whatever you’re smoking…

Moe

You wouldnt be able to handle it, soft ass Europeans

AP

Mid-level? We drew with a team which won at OT, something we havent done for some time.

Hala

Your team lost by 3 goals at home. Go away.

Moe

go Hala at your mama

A Yank In King Arsene's West Stand

We fielded Flamini and Arteta in the Napoli match that you praise in literally the first sentence of your comment. But yeah… good point well made, buddy.

Moe

yeah I know we did, so whats your point.

masterofthegoonaverse

A pretty obvious one if you read your first comment

The soul of P Davis

Jack is nearly back. The competition for places is vital for us to get the best out of both Wilshere and Ramsey.

O'

rosicky not playing for the czechs this upcoming 2 final world cup qualifying fixtures puts a smile to my face, and cazorla/walcott will probably be back as well, time for Ramsey and Wilshere to be back where they belong, dictating play from the middle of the park, partnering either Flamini/Arteta, that’s 4 really solid CMs we have, we’re sexay and we know it!

truj

Is he english enough?
