Sanabria off the menu for Arsenal

Arsenal’s pursuit of Barcelona youngster Antonio Sanabria looks to have ended in failure with the player confirming he’ll be signing for AS Roma.

The 17-year-old striker, who has already scored twice for Barcelona’s B team and has three full international caps for Paraguay under his belt, revealed that the Serie A side had laid down cash for him even though he won’t be able to play for them until next season.

Speaking to Radio Monumental [translation by Inside Futbol] the teenager revealed: “They [Roma] have already deposited the money needed with the Spanish federation for the clause at Barcelona.

“I’ll go out on loan to another team in Serie A. The club will give me the options. I cannot play for Roma for six months.”

In early December, Sanabria’s agent, Raul Verdu, was quoted saying: “Our contacts with Arsenal are advanced and I expect a solution in the next week.”

It would appear we didn’t bother picking up the phone.

Arseblog News has no idea if this kid is any good but with more pressing concerns surrounding first team matters (amazing striker/winger please Arsene?) we’re not going to lose any sleep over this. Naturally we felt you’d like to know all the same…

Anyway, good luck to Sanabria, there are many life lessons to be learnt from Gervinho. Probably.

How’s Gustavo enjoying life at Wolfsburg? These guys who ditch Arsenal will learn the hard way.

Ox15

Hate to say it but Higuain might be an exception. Still he ain’t got nothin on our HFB.

Toby C

Don’t see why. They’ve drawn with Udinese and Cagliari recently and are well off the pace in Serie A.

Ox15

True, I was thinking more along the lines of personal performance. I’ll bet he regrets not being top of the table in the prem!

Cele

If he does well he’ll eventually get his chance in the ‘EPL’.
Professional footballer or not the weather for the last week makes moving to Roma a pretty sensible decision to me.

Heroldgoon

Hahaha

Put HFB and Higuain infront of me and i know who i’d pick!

Toby C

Agreed Ox15 🙂

arsenalista

Higuain is playing well, but napoli are very inconsistent. like arsenal over the past few years, but not as good. He’ll regret not pushing Madrid harder to send him here.

Master Bates

what an idiot! I am sure fernandinho will get called over him for Brazil

gonz

We have Flamini now so it worked out a lot better for us.

Toronto Gooner

Roma has also employed names like Osvaldo, Lamela and Gervinho who are all known as Premier League failures.
They play good football though.

PC

Sagna + Gnabry + Veira = Sanabria?!?

PG

Poor old Gervinho clearly hasn’t learnt this lesson yet! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WudGidYpGdM

ANDR

He is playing well for roma so I don’t think there is any need for such comments.
He was never a good finisher but as Rudy Garcia said – Most of those chances would not have been there without gervinho.

arseblog

I’m sorry, but aside from some flashes of really quite good stuff, Gervinho was fucking awful.

There’s a reason why we’re top of the league, and part of it is because he’s gone.

mo974

Blog I don’t agree gervinho was awful cause arsene could not handle him properly and the fans though gervais was here to score goals . he is not a goal scorer he is an old fashion winger. just watch him play with roma this year and with a coach who knows his quality.i love arsene but on gervinho ‘s case he lost the plot i remember he even played him CF !!!! roma are second in serie a with only one defeat to Juve and he is taking a huge part in the renaissance of la louve.

argonaut

Gervinho was possibly one of the most infuriating players to watch in an Arsenal shirt. Sure, there was some talent there, but the reason he baffled defenders with his movement was that most of the time he had no clue himself where he was going or what he was doing.

In the end, he squandered chances and missed far too many tap-ins.

I wish him well at Roma, but I’m bloody glad he’s not at Arsenal any more.

Adam Richards

He wasn’t a bad player, or a bad person. Oh wait, to be fair he was a pretty bad player on his day.

Pakistan Arsenal!

Have no idea about who would be a good and succesful buy. Thankfully, Arsene is in charge and I’m sure he’ll make the best decision possible.

Is this guy French and injury prone? If not then he was never in our radar…

walking towards the exit now…

elamyfriend

Unless this kid is another Anelka who can make an immediate impact on first squad, will not lose any sleep over this. We need a striker to back up Giroud and I think Berbatov is a good fit as backup. I want Wenger to get Geoffrey Kondogbia for defensive midfield.

Geezer

Kondogbia just moved to Monaco in the summer. Good luck trying to get him from them. We have been linked with a move for William Carvalho though.

Brese

Reminds me of Ricky Alvarez, not sure anybody remembers him anymore

argonaut

You could probably say the same thing about Ricky Martin.

elmo11

Just gonna leave this here….

Tony sanabria

“I’ve heard good things about roma. its well known in paraguay and is always trying to win things…all that is good but the main reason i came here is because i get to play alongside the Ivorian Ronaldo, it is an honor really”

TV5

his future was so bright until Gervinho starting pimping his ass on the streets of the Italian capital…

Aamir

Talented kid but oh well, Barcelona still get pissed off so we can laugh at them.

We need a proven striker this January to fire us to the title.

Strevs

Are you serious ANDR? I’d never wish gervinho anything other than the best but the cold hard facts are he didn’t suit arsenal and plainly isn’t good enough for elite European teams or those with such aspirations. When you are playing poorly and need a goal from a clinical decisive player gervinho goes and misses open goals (see Bradford away last season) and then we got knocked out.
For me, Loic Remy at 12-15mil – scores a few goals and then we keep giroud fresh for the big games.

Boblex

A big Meh! If he didn’t want to go to the Arsenal that’s his loss! We’ve got Akpom!

Steve

Yeah lets get some one that is ready to hit the ground running in this transfer window, stuff a stop gap like berbaflop

Jayroud

He had better play in Samaria, do we care?

mark.sd

What about another Paraguayan who has premier league experience? Roque Santa Cruz seems like a good short term solution. He is still capable of playing with a decent return in La Liga. I don’t know if Malaga is still in financial troubles, but it might be what we need. He even has a German song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW-ojhMZty4

Sounds fitting.

mark.sd

he’s not cup tied and he even linked up with podolski during his bayern time.

FiremanSam

Gervinho wasn’t that bad – he was like a nutty little rocket you could fire at the opposition and nobody knew what the fuck would happen.

Half the time he’d sprint into the box and trip over his own feet, and he couldn’t shoot of course, but…ok fair enough he was pretty pants.

Toure Motors

Size of those lugs. He could be a double for the FA cup

Matt

Can we not get Joel Campbell back?

kafka

“It would appear we didn’t bother picking up the phone.”

Might it appear the agent was doing what agents do?

LastNightEboueSavedMyLife

A 17 year old, in the light of the Theo and Olivier injuries, is surely not who we should be perusing. I’m convinced we won’t be spending big money (Costa, Benzema , Suarez etc) but we do need someone who has played at the highest level and can immediately impact our season.

For me, Pato ticks all the boxes. Similar age to Thierry and Dennis when their careers seemed to be waining and not too expensive due to a baron spell back in Brazil. Anyone who can do this is welcome at the Grove.
