Sanogo makes comeback for U21s

Yaya Sanogo has made his comeback from injury with a 61 minute run-out for the U21s today at London Colney.

Terry Burton’s team took on Southampton at the training ground today, and the former Auxerre man got just over an hour of playing time under his belt before being replaced by Austin Lipman.

It was Sanogo’s first involvement since being sent on as a 60th minute substitute against Fenerbahce in the Champions League qualifier last August.

The young Frenchman picked up a back injury shortly after and has been sidelined since. Although he’s become the butt of jokes since his arrival, Arsene Wenger said of him at the time of his signing, “We have signed Sanogo. He has not made the headlines. Why?

“Because he is not £50m to £100m but I am quite confident he will make them soon on the pitch, and that for me is the most important.”

Obviously the manager sees something in him, and given the amount of football we have to play this season, the more fit bodies we have the better.

Wish you all the best, Yaya. Even before he kicked the ball, people were unfairly targeting him to vent their frustrations due to a lack of a marquee stricker signing. Time to shine, big man.

Igor Stepanov's career

I don’t think Yaya got any stick it was more a case of Wenger getting stick for not securing any “big name” signings.

Sanogo will be a big hit next season.

“Because he is not £50m to £100m but I am quite confident he will make them soon on the pitch, and that for me is the most important.”

The problem Sanogo will ALWAYS have, is not who he is, but who he isnt. The fans wanted world class, and we got untried. Judge him on what he plays like. A couple of small games, should not form any opinion…

roof attack

why will he ALWAYS have this problem ??? now he is just another player in the squad, trying to get into the first team. Kolo Toure was singed for next to nothing and he was judged by what he did on the pitch, as were many of our free or nearly free signings.

Unyoke The Ox

Add Flamini x2 to that list.

In fact Flamini might be one of the only good players to never have transferred for a fee.

Welshman

S are you trying to say that Sanogo will be given a fair crack? Look at all the stick he gets. Barley mentioned by fans, and of so, with dread. I think he will come good, and won’t judge him, but to say that he is not crapped on, and it’s because of his ability only, is naive. How many comments have you read, conversation you been a part of where the whole, we wanted Suarez/Higuain but got Sanogo theme? Everybody was also excited about Flamini. We were in for Gustavo, but plumped for the cheap option, and, until he… Read more »

I think Welshman is saying that those people who were angry at Sanogo (free, injured, French, inexperienced, blah blah blah), were angry about who he isn’t, rather than giving him a fair chance. I’m pretty sure Welshman said you can only judge Sanogo after he’s had a decent run. I think people mis-interpreted his comment.

Welshman

WengesNoseHair, has got it. I’m inarticulate today, apologies.

DL Gooner

Judging players on their monetary value instead of their footballing ability is Sanogo.

Pivethai

FM2011 king, mate.
I can’t imagine why most people would have a problem with a 20 year old joining ranks.

Olatunde Lagos Gooner

Good news. Heard so much about Sanogo and cant wait to have him playing in the first team. COYG!

Pigtank

He gets pretty good on fifa…

JerseyGooner

Who was in the number 7 jersey in the compilation? He was shredding the D.

Miranda

I think the number 7 is Pogba, so no surprise you’re impressed.

James

If Arsene believes in him then so do I.

rawgooner

What else can you say? None of us know how to run a football club, nor how to judge promising players. Thank you, James. Enough said.

Wenger's Zipper

Do your best, Yaya! We’ll cheer you on!

Indonesian Gooner

Yaya, why don’t you do us a favor and go retire with your idol Diaby. So we won’t have false hopes and annoying situations with your constant injuries.

duno

More like he should keep his itchy fingers strapped to his eyelids.

Dr Baptiste

Can we retire you from commenting on here instead?

Arsepedant

I second that. Has this guy ever made a positive contribution to these comments?

Mimir

Piers Morgan, is that you?

GreekTragedy

Overmars. Ramsey. Szczesny. Wilshire. Thank god we had no faith in them due to long term injuries.

lol

the #7 is ntep btw

Bould's Eyeliner

Can we just buy the Auxerre club and get it over with.

IrishWill

Extra player in a position that we are short in, that can only be a positive, everyone deserves their chance, good luck Yaya!!

Roland C Rozario

Everyone need to be given a chance! So dies Yata Sanogo!

gooner4life

He has talent. That YouTube video makes him look awesome….but then again, I remember saying that when we signed chamak and I watched him on youtube

Harsh

To be fair, until van persie exploded, chamakh was playing very well for us. I think Wenger has said the same thing quite a few times that chamakh was a very good player ruined by a world class player.

Momo

Why did Wenger sign another unproven player for so cheap? So frustrating.

Didn’t he learn from Toure, Anelka, RVP, Cesc etc? God. Idiot!

Sarcasm aside, he doesn’t deserve abuse, he was pretty much free. If he works out, Wenger’s a genius once again, if it doesn’t who cares, we lose nothing.

WengersNoseHair

So, what was the result of the game? How did Sanogo contribute?

WengersNoseHair

There’s an article about the game on Jeorge Bird’s blog, http://arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/. My first time reading it, and I highly recommend it, it’s a very good blog.

Mr Media

Am I the only one who thinks we should be buying Ross Barkley? Could get him for 12-15m and he could be worth 25-30m in a year or two. Easy money.

Beagleboy

We don’t need no striker no-oo, we got Yaya Sanogo-oo! Allez Yaya!

Wenga Sacked Me :(

It’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw his picture in this article. Brilliant video.

“He lacked a little bit confidence”

Henry! Chance! Goal!!

Sports is a talent acquisition business. It doesn’t matter where you get the talent from. As long as they can do what you ask of them at a high level. Sometimes they come ready-made. Other times you have develop them into world class players. Give Sonogo a chance to prove himself

eternalflamini

Arsene was hoping he would be a key part of the season, but so far it’s a no go.

dickson

just give him a chance to prove himself

Saud

We tried to get Yaya but he was Sanogo…

He came free, good youth record, and not thrust into action to save our season (yet). He’ll have time and opportunity to come good. If not, meh. We’ll get someone else in the summer.

Davy Jones

Hope he succeeds. Good luck to him
