Benik Afobe says he’ll discuss his Arsenal future with Arsene Wenger at the end of the season but for the moment is focused on completing a successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.
The England under-21 international moved to Hilsborough at the end of January and has since scored twice in 12 games as he looks to get his career back on track after a serious knee injury sustained this time last year.
Confirming that he has one-year left on his contract at the Emirates, Afobe told Sheffield Wednesday’s official website how he’d been welcomed to the fold.
As things stand it looks unlikely that Afobe, who was once courted by Barcelona as a teenager, has much of a future at Arsenal.
He’s been incredibly unlucky in the last three years picking up two serious injuries. While Robin van Persie was quick to underline the youngster’s qualities after his comeback from a groin problem in 2012, his ACL setback last Match scuppered any chance to make a breakthrough despite our obvious paucity of options up front.
With Yaya Sanogo taken under Wenger’s wing, Chuba Akpom making headway at Academy level and Joel Campbell showing flashes of inspiration on loan at Olympiakos he’s a little down the pecking order and at 21 may look for first team football elsewhere.
Hes not good enough. Could hv been so good hving academy graduate as a first class striker…

good luck Afobe.
When is Wenger set for Wenger talks?
Some things just arent supposed to Afobe
I don’t think he’ll be here next year. As mentioned, Akpom is making noise and Campbell is showing exactly what he can do… Best of luck, though Ben’!
Pre-season will tell the story, particularly as most of our first team will be at the world cup.
I wish him the best, for himself as well as us, because he has it in him and if that quality resurfaces in the right conditions, we’d all do very well.
Gutted if he doesn’t make the Arsenal grade. I’ve been bigging him up to mates for years, so much so it has become something of an in joke. It would appear I will be eating humble pie as the lad looks certain to go the way of Emmanuel Thomas. Good luck fella!
Lads I seen ben play against united reserves herein dublin a few years ago. He was class he should be given a chance. Hes a bit like drogba
A massive, ‘orrible cunt?
Haha
Yet another academy product to be shown the door. Something’s not right.
Academies are expected to be low throughput, in the sense that many are recruited to enter, but few actually progress successfully. This is true of even the most highly-regarded academies.
Regarding Benik, specifically: I can’t claim to know much about how he plays, but from all I’ve heard, I wish he wouldn’t leave.
Southampton’s academy seems to be pretty “high throughput” from where I’m standing.
Any news on Aneke?
Sad when injuries can ruin players careers so young. Best of luck to the lad. The sad thing is, that if we had more than giroud, say higuain and as well a demba BA. We would have had options. We would have given ourselves a real chance. Ozil is great, but it wasn’t enough. Fa cup, top 4 and push on next year I hope! Coyg
Time for change guys. We are too dependent on one man who has done a great job but we must face reality time moves on we evolve. I am a supporter of Wenger and love him but the unbeatables happened over a decade ago we need to move on. Change frightens us all but if we live in the past the competition will get more and more distant. Wenger is a legend but Arsenal must not be a one man band. Sure give him a job upstairs but lets face the future and bring on a new dynamic manager. Lets… Read more »
i guess wrong theme and timing to create debate but i think arseblog if you are reading this it might be a good idea to create topical themes for people to discus such as do we need a new manager?
No one wants debate. Not even tried to read my comments just want to live in the past. bring on the thumbs down live in ignorance
its so sad that people that think they are fans cannot answer a comment but cowardly click thumbs down. bunch of spuds.i give up let the man be at work in his 70s fuck common sense. this site is totally full of cunts.
No just the one!!
“the unbeatables happened over 10 years ago time to move on”
You’re the “stupid cunt” who hasnt moved on considering you’re even mentioning it.
and as for tarring thousands of people cunts as soon as you see at least the majority don’t agree with you is both embarrassing and amusing.
George Graham’s red and white army. Rocky Rocky Rocky Rocastle. we are the arsenal and fuck off the rest. Ring any bels or are you still on Wenger fantasy island?
It’s Wenger wonderland. Get it right
If i was a young, up and coming talent, i would probably not have joined Arsenal if there were other options on the table. Not that i think our academy is bad, if anything it is one of the best, but with all the injuries plagueing our club, i would probably have taken my chances elsewhere just to be safe. :p
Anyway’s, best of luch to him whatever happens. Coyg!
That is some really silly reasoning.
Fabregas chose Arsenal and it accelerated his career.
This is a news site not a forum therefore the comments are topical in the context of the article..
I would give this 30 green thumbs if I could.
Fact is with most clubs, it is an extremely small percentage of Academy graduates who make it. In a sense you may be better off at a lower mid-table club like Villa or Southampton who are well known for their academies and produce good players (Everton too). But as far as Arsenal are concern, you have a good chance of making it to the first team. Cole then Gibbs did it. Jack. Diaby. Song. Bellerin and Zelalem are worth watching. It is getting more difficult to break in to the first team simply because Wenger is in the position to… Read more »
Our youth teams have not being doing terribly well. Partially, its because we have a good proportion of the players playing in the reserves or in and around the main squad. But we need to rethink the youth training and sourcing. Which is why there have been changes there with coaching. This area has become extremely competitive and it is increasingly difficult to maintain our edge vis-a-vis sourcing. One area which Arsenal is neglecting is recruitment from North and central America (Campbell excepted) Considering the popularity of the sport at youth levels in the United States and the population base,… Read more »
