Rosicky: players need to learn how it feels to win

Tomas Rosicky has stressed the importance of Arsenal going the distance in the FA Cup this season as a way for younger players to gain from the experience of winning a trophy.

The midfieder, who won titles in the Czech Republic and the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, believes it’s a key part of a player’s development, as he told Arsenal.com.

“It would be a big lift for everyone because you still have a lot of players here who don’t know how it feels to win a trophy,” he said.

“Mainly the guys who are coming through like Jack, Aaron and all these boys. They don’t know how success tastes, so it is a massive chance for us to win a trophy this year.

“It would be a building block for these boys.”

Rosicky is a doubt for tomorrow’s game with a thigh problem, and Arsene Wenger will be hoping one of his most experienced players can contribute on a day in which the pressure will be well and truly on.

The Arsenal manager is calling on his team to show the same character they did when facing the likes of Sp*rs, Liverpool and Everton to reach this stage of the competition.

“We’ve played some very good teams in order to get to this stage of the competition and the atmosphere at the Emirates has been very good.

“Wigan have always had good teams in recent years but when you reach a semi-final you just consider it an opportunity to get to the final, be your opponents Wigan or anyone else.

“But we have a big experience as a team. We have played everywhere in Europe so we know that you just adapt to the quality of the pitch, to the opponent and you give your best.”

Leaders are needed. Someone who is experienced in rebounding from early goals and pushes the team onwards. A team full of naive, placid players (who are extremely talented, dont get my wrong) just won’t get it done.

The quality is there, we just need a big spank up the backside, change is sorely needed.

Macduff

Have we not been talking about needing leaders since the Invincibles were dismantled?

birbicholi

they werent dismantled for the fun of it you know….we had a new ground to finance/repay

Macduff

I didn’t say they were. Are you stalking to troll? please stop, you’re boring the regulars.

birbicholi

im sorry what? the regulars? …you cant be serious…. just like when you talk arsenal….

Macduff

You mean like when you talk Arsenal. I will quote you from yesterday evening

“ha..i take it you suffered a lot then before wenger came round and turned you into a proper football club… a world class football club”

Anyone who thinks Arsenal were not a proper football club before 1996 has very little right to criticise any other Arsenal supporter

birbicholi

you cant be this thick ……. i refuse to enter into a discussion with such a fool as you who cant see the difference between the arsenal wenger took and the arsenal of today.

unheard of success, world class players, world class football, world class academies, world class scouting system, world class training and medical centres, world class stadium, among top5 richest clubs in the world, uefa co-efficient :6

there is simply no comparison… 🙂 you shit for brains …..

Macduff

Well I am willing to debate with adults, but when it degenerates into infantile namecalling by keyboard I’m out. Your family and the manager you defend would be so proud of you

birbicholi

well, macduff there is a limit to the horseshit i can tolerate from the likes of you and your delusions of grandeur regarding pre -wenger arsenal.

the man turned us into a world class football club…. a proper football club..with stadium, facilities, scouting, made you money, made us a standard name in europe’s top competition etc etc

stuff that were never part of the club’s culture/history before him.. so shhhhh..enough with all you fairweather fans sticking the knife in the club youre meant to support

birbicholi

you started the character attacks mate ( stalking, troll, boring) …now youre crying and complaining about my manners and language? …a bit like all these goonies like you who want to dish it out to wenger and arsenal but law and behold when genuine fans give you some back huh…?

so if i get this right you can critisise wenger and arsenal all you want but i can not critisise you or your dumb arsed opinions?

talk about ego problems……

go away you fascist shithead.

Mpls

Back to your corners, mates.

These personal attack flame wars are really growing old. From both. Disagree on a point and move on.

You’re making me scroll far more than I like before I can get to something worth reading.

Macduff

Mpls, Agreed

JB

This blow-for-blow response is awesome !!!!!

The one thing in common – you both clearly love Arsenal Football Club.

That’s all that matters………

Big win in the sunshine tomorrow lads !!!!!

Pete

Were we not commending Mertesacker, Flamini, Arteta et al for their leadership qualities at the start of the season?

Thierry Bergkamp

If I were to think of leaders in the game, Arteta and Flamini (even with all his animations) would be way down the list.

AllGunsABlazin

I think the BFG needs to find his voice again. Something tells me that without the Verminator at the back, he felt the need to be the defensive voice, hence his captaincy at times. Now that the actual captain is back, I haven’t seen Per yelling at anyone recently.

Gaz

I think you’re right. Earlier on I thought he showed the presence to boss the defense and the side from his position. Of all the players mentioned I think he’s got the physical and mental presence to get that bit extra out of his team mates.

Cheroo

I said the exact same thing in 2008. If we had just signed an experienced midfield general who had won trophies he could have shown the lads how to get over the line. Van Bommel was available and for not tons of money. Totally within our means. Yet Wenger did nothing as usual and we fell apart. Here’s an interesting fact. Wenger has never won a trophy at Arsenal with a team made up of entirely players he signed. Even the 2005 FA cup team had some players he inherited from previous managers. If that doesn’t tell you he needs help… Read more »

goonerbynature

” Wenger has never won a trophy at Arsenal with a team made up of entirely players he signed.”

That is objectively false. There was no one in that squad from pre-Wenger.

Mimir

“We know that you just adapt to the quality of the pitch, to the opponent and you give your best.”

There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

GreekTragedy

Tedious statements continue. Close up shop and get focused for tomorrow. All the press statements in the world aren’t going to justify what’s happened over the past month or placate the fans. I’m pretty sure Wigan weren’t used to winning trophies but they won this torney last year. You don’t have to be multiple trophy winners, you just have to turn up and play like you know there’s a cannon on your shirt and understand what that means.

ArsenalHobbit

Thumb down for “torney”

CLEGooner

Barf. Bring back the media blackout.

realseriousgooner

Really hope Lil Mozart is fit to play. Bergkamp knows we need his energy n drive. He’s one of our only players who will actually take a defender on. I want a passionate effort on Saturday for it has surely been missing. Hopefully he n Rambo bring the best out of the rest of the boys. COYG!

Hi-brid

I’m scared and wondering whether a small wager on Wigan might (a) ensure that we win, or (b) serve as some kind of weak insurance policy if we don’t.

Fatgooner

The truth is that we have nothing to win but everything to lose.

If we beat Wigan easily tomorrow then everybody will say, “They only beat a Championship side.” But if we lose than It’ll be another shitstorm; another “crisis”.

I think we’ll win 2-0.

Mpls

Utter shite.

We have an FA Cup to win and a 9 year drought to lose in the following match.

We have a confidence building trophy run victory to win and legions of doubters to lose.

COYG!!

Mpls

But good to see you think we’ll win too!

I understand, you have a reputation to uphold. 🙂

WWWWWWWenger

We will win easily if we just play with some balls. My problem with this team is the “IF” in that statement. We MUST always play with desire and AW MUST get them to press and run and fucking fight a bit. Do that for the rest of the season and we win comfortably. I was hoping we’d get 3rd and the FA Cup but that ship sailed. A real pity.

WengersNoseHair

We’ll definitely win if we get one of Giroud’s ‘female friends’ to play with referee Michael Oliver’s balls before the match.

Too much?

Arsepedant

Oh smeg, it’s Oliver?

UFB

Great picture!
Anyone knows at which game it was shot?

GunnerForever07

The Sunderland home game, the day Bergkamp’s statue was unveiled. That picture is from Rosicky’s little chip over Mannone after the quick passing move!

AllGunsABlazin

After Goal Of The Season (tied with the similar Norwich move)

Arsepedant

It was Sunderland on Bergkamp day. I was lucky enough to be sitting front row dead centre in the upper deck right behind the goal where it was scored, which made for a pretty spectacular day considering that Dennis signed my book before the match. Best trip ever, really.

Angolan Girl Who Loves The Gunner

We need to win tomorrow, please, please, please Arsenal don’t mess up!

BiLLSitO

… As all respect I have for Wigan and their fans, let’s not forget that we are the Arsenal … Enough said … My concern is that we don’t get any new injury after Saturday victory… We need everyone fit cuz play champions league is part of our DNA

kentgooner

I just hope that the players don’t believe that they only need to turn up to beat Wigan. We need to prove that we deserve to make it back to Wembley in May. Beating Sperz, Liverpool and Everton means nothing if we cant beat Wigan. Come on you Gunners do us proud please.

gooners n roses

AW needs to tread carefully on his pre-game prep. Because, nothing works in his favour this season when the stake is high.

freshogunner

Can’t wait COYG

Amaechi

The sad thing about the way this season has panned out is we here fretting about a semi final game with a championship side but this what the managerial reign of Arsene Wenger has reduced Arsenal to. Tomorrow God knows what Arsenal team would show up but a loss would catastrophic for club and especially Wenger.

benanzak

Im shitting myself

richardanus

Been a while since you won anything eh, Tomasz ? Wot injured again ?

Dan D

We will win tomorrow.
