Wilshere undergoes ankle operation

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere has undergone a minor procedure on his ankle.

However, before we all roll our eyes to heaven and groan and the mind-numbing inevitability of it all, the operation won’t keep him out for anything more than a few days apparently.

It had been planned for the end of the season when doctors would have removed what Wenger referred to as ‘two buttons’, but having felt discomfort which kept him out of the midweek Champions League defeat to Monaco it was brought forward.

The midfielder has been out of action since November when a nasty challenge by Manchester United’s Paddy McNair left him with damaged ankle ligaments.

It’s the latest in a series of injury set-backs for the England international, but hopefully with this last little op he might get a run of fitness and games under his belt.

Fingers crossed.

Hmmm, hope he isn’t becoming the new Diaby, ie something fundamentally crocked.

Good luck Jack.

That’s my fear as well. Would be fucking tragic if through out his career we’d be left wondering what could have been, remembering a 19 y.o. boy wonder beating up Barca in the CL….

The buttons that are being removed are “Get injured” and “Smoke Fags” so hopefully that will help get him back to being the next great thing.

Off topic, but – I have to say the over-reaction to defeats and victories has become very frustrating for me. Forget the performance, good or bad. Why the over-reaction? Giroud had a stinker. That’s not surprising, he’s a good player capable of good games and bad games. We bought him for 10M. Not 35M, or 75M, 10Million. That’s what you get. Balotelli has been crap, as has ADM. Why the lack of criticism for them? For all of Arseblog’s usually excellent work and analysis, usually measured, even he was very critical of the coach. But I have to ask –… Read more »

We judge him after every game because there is certainly nobody at the club evaluating his role at any time It’s clear watching the team that there us next to no organisation defensively. He even said before the game that Monaco will look to hit us on the break. So what do you do? Play oil and canola in cm with Coq? Ozil doesn’t defend. Cazorla will do his best but is limited. So wood you tell the full backs yo hold their position? If it’s on the players, are they ignoring orders? If so why are they playing or… Read more »

Just to ask – Can I ask who You would’ve played in central midfield against Monaco, given our current injuries/players available?

Alex

Great news… oh, wait, no, sorry, i wish him good recovery, but i rather wish an Arteta back QUICKLY than a JW.

GunnAlex

I ONLY READ THE TITLE AND NOW IM BOILING WITH ANGER!!

Psyche. Hope the recovery is speedy as they promise.

CB

I think the picture may have mislead. Based on that I wasn’t expecting him back this season!

Vivek

We need one of Wilshere/Ramsey/Ox to play alongside Coq, Santi is much better in the attacking role.

George

And what for Ozil? Barring Monaco he’s been fantastic since his return from injury?

Avneet

If you place a cut in the body, I just can’t see how the recovery can happen in matter of days. I will be massively surprised to see Jack before 2 weeks.

Double98

Now I’m not saying he’s injury prone, but they actually don’t need to cut him any more – he has zippers on all his joints and his lungs are accessible via a velcro strap for regular detarring.

I knownit was bk in november even so… filthy manc cunts.

kalus02

Fuck!not again!

Apparently two weeks can be described as “a matter of days”

co_gunner

Technically two weeks is a matter of days. 14 to be precise. 🙂

Die Hard Gunner

Wilshere needs a break, a break off the reoccurring injuries.
And the Injury god need to leave us alone. goddamnit!

George

Surgery? Wilshere? Back in a matter of days? Forgive me for being cynical…

Get well soon, Jacko. Again.

Le Jim

Imagine having buttons in your ankle! You could probably store all kinds of shit in there!

DFS

Well, it’s supposedly less of a problem than ‘zipper elbow’.

Third Plebeian

Sometimes we just need a leader on the pitch to have a word with the players. Like, “hey, dude, you forgot to turn on your ankles again.” That’s all it takes sometimes.

Smithers

The problem with Jack and injuries is minor every single injury is the same and I Cant believe somebody hasn’t pointed out why to him – when jack runs with the ball he touches it too far in front of him doesn’t keep the ball close to his feet. This in turn invites the big challenges that take him out. Don’t believe me? Watch some games, he touches the ball and is effectively chasing after it ALL THE TIME, so he’s giving his opposition the opportunity to come and slide in and he’s desperate to get to his ball and… Read more »

I know you have a point. I do, but for what its worth i’d be bitterly disappointed if my central midfielder wasn’t “effectively chasing after it ALL THE TIME’ whilst dribbling

WengersNoseHair

You’re right, nobody has ever in history ever pointed that out about Wilshere’s dribbling. Ever. And of course, the natural thing to do when someone displays neat, accurate close control right in front of you is to go in as hard as you can with a two-footed lunge. Makes complete sense. Don’t bugger around trying to play football by actually going for the ball, you know, like it says in the rules. Break his ankles, who cares! Just ask Paddy McNair. Football really is simple.

loose_cannon

AH, so it’s HIS fault that he keeps getting injured. Hmmmm……..

GU1TAR-D3MON

Pretty shitty news… Really need a proper CM back in the team and was hoping Jack would be fit for the weekend but it was pretty obvious that something was wrong when he wasn’t included in the midweek squad…

I can’t see how a surgery can keep one out for a few days, surely he means 2-3 weeks right?

Ramsey's Spirit

Why is surgery always done when the player has rejoined training? why not as soon as hes injured ?

Trex d' Gunner

Add this to pile of shitty news that has characterized Arsenal this week. What a week
