Coquelin: we have to pull ourselves together

Francis Coquelin has called on his Arsenal teammates to do more to ensure that they bounce back from the opening day defeat to West Ham.

Individually and collectively the Gunners were off their game against the Hammers, and the midfielder is looking for more effort to ensure three points are won at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

“Everybody realises that we need to put more in,” he told Arsenal Player. “When you look at different teams I think a lot of them are ready. You look at Manchester City when they played against West Brom, I think they played really good football.

“We need to pull ourselves together and it’s going to be a real test on Sunday because Crystal Palace have a really good squad.

“We know the quality we have and we need to respond straight away. We’ve been working really hard in training and we need to put all of the training effort into the game.”

Actions speak louder than words. Let’s see what Sunday 4pm brings

Indian_Gooner

Hey, how do I get an image next to my name?

OOzil

You need to earn it.. it is enabled only if you get at least 75 thumbs up on a comment..
or you could do it easily.. just send me your name, email id, credit card number and pin, and i will take care of the rest.. oh i almost forgot.. send me the image u want next to ur name.. my email id is [email protected]

AntiSpud

Yeah. Pull ourselves together, stop moaning, bear the next opponents and vote for Jeremy Corbyn. The only way we can enjoy this season IMHO. COYG

Stewart Robson's therapist

Corbyn isn’t compatible with a football club that prides itself on living within its means.

Stewart Robson's therapist

Waiting for the inevitable variations of “talk is cheap, just do it” to turn up in the comments section…he can’t actually do anything about it before the weekend, can he? So until then, what else is he supposed to say when he’s put in a corner by some moronic interviewer?

Indian_Gooner

A bit off-topic but I have am stuck on a question since the time I read Tim’s article yesterday. Why do our players have to make an issue of where they want to play in stead of doing a job when asked upon? Tim wrote how “Ozil’s camp” planted the story that Ozil was assured the no. 10 role in the Arsenal set-up? We all saw Ramsey saying explicitly that Cazorla is playing in his position and he wants to get back in the middle of the park. Interestingly, Cazorla is the only one who didn’t demand to play in… Read more »

out of the team*

remember the invincibles

I completely agree with you. Too much is made out of the position they play.
Cazorla/Coq axis works because they complement each other. Ramsey/Coq doesn;t work because Ramsey is more selfish ( no judgement here- I’ve time and again been desperate for our players to be selfish) in that he wants to bomb forward far more and be the guy who is passed to, rather than be the guy who distributes to others.
If Ramsey wants to do that, he should play on the right as Sanchez is back on the left

Stewart Robson's therapist

Possibly we just follow what Arsenal players are saying much more closely than anyone else. I can’t imagine Rooney enjoyed playing in midfield last season. Nor, I’m sure, would Blind and Di Maria have appreciated being shunted all round the pitch and we know Fabregas suffered when he was repeatedly moved between deep and high positions.

Indian_Gooner

That’s the thing, though. You don’t have to like being played out of position. But then, you also don’t need to single out a team-mate in public saying he is playing in your position. Especially when that player has been one of the best players of the season.

Le Jim

Exactly, I specifically remember Blind saying just a few days ago that he was determined to prove to everyone that he could overcome not being the tallest/strongest and succeed at centre back.
Ramsey, Walcott, etc. should really just think about doing the job that they’re PAID to do, or performing to the level that they’re considered for the job that they WANT to do.

Arsene

Lately we all have been hyped up by all those shits.Let’s keep our feet on the ground and take one game at a time.Think responsively and don’t get dragged by those media hypes flying around.#Believe

Avneet

More talking. Deliver it on the pitch lad and believe me you never have to come out to repeat what every Tom, Dic and Harry know already!

Stewart Robson's therapist

I refer you to my above comment.

Goonerestgooner

You should’ve gone with….

“every Tom, Dick and Thierry Henry”

?

Liebenrood

I’m inspired by that video. They should show that before the match and everyone would perform better.

Double98

When our coq needs pulling together – its time to break out the hand cream.

el_bahja

@iNdia gunner u just hit the nail on the head was also thinking that same way why is it that is only arsenal players complainning where to play? Why? I don’t just get it

Man Manny

…and pull ourselves apart when we are attacking so that we have width!

GoonerN16

I think its fair to say that it is no secret which position is Ozil’s favoured one, it is common knowledge. However if shunted onto the wing for either Ramsey or Wilshire he does the job. Whereas Ramsey on the wing does not do the job, he’s too slow, too selfish and he loses the team width when he inevitably drifts in field.
IMO Ramsey has to be far more consistent in his standard of play and a better team player before he earns the right to demand anything.

Fishmonger

Rambo plays better on the right than you have seemed to give him credit for, Santi is so ineffective on the flank. I’d rather Rambo play there than take Santi’s spot next to Coq.

Bleeding gums Murphy

Bit radical maybe but I wonder if we could actually play a wide player in the wide position. Very simple drop Ramsey. If he plays the pass to Debuchy last week very different result. he cost us as much as Cech.

GoonerN16

Yes I agree, but does Ramsey have to play each game? It seems that AW has to shuttle a settled team around to fit either Ramsey or Wilshire in, which was my earlier point.

Mesut Aussie

Geez the coq’s a cracker isn’t he!

love

And yet he ( ramsey) seems to think he can break into the Barcelona team..jokes!

Stewart Robson's therapist

He was asked whether or not he liked the sound of playing for Barcelona, in light of rumours that they might bid for him. What footballer can truthfully say no to that? He didn’t bring it up himself so it’s irrelevant in terms of judging his character.

Andre the Giant

5 minute video of Coq sliding in hard … Giggidy

gooner1886

As far as I know it’s just a theory that ozil’s team spoke to the press. We’re assuming its what actually happened without any real proof. It could just be papers talking shit as per usual.
