Wenger pleased with win and overcoming that hurdle

Arsene Wenger has admitted that beating a Jose Mourinho team for the first time may have been a hurdle for his team to overcome, but says he’s more happy that Arsenal’s pre-season concluded with victory against a side of such quality.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal gave the Gunners their first win over Chelsea since 2011, and after another clean sheet the Arsenal manager was pleased with the overall outcome.

Asked about beating Mourinho for the first time, he said, “I must honestly say that it didn’t play on my mind at all. As long as I get it served every time in press conferences it can have an impact on the team.

“Certainly the way my team behaved during some periods in the game, it helped. It was important for them to get that hurdle out of the way.”

And he spoke about how his team’s desire to win the game stufled their attacking display.

“We defended well. Our game is based on togetherness, on solidarity, and defending and attacking well. I believe that we defended because there was maybe a bit of a psychological hurdle ahead of my players.

“They were more concerned with protecting our lead against Chelsea rather than playing attacking football. We have to accept that and I don’t think that’s giving up your philosophy, it’s a punctual fact that we wanted to win a game like that. I’m quite proud of that.”

It means that Arsenal have won their last three games against good opposition without conceding a single goal, and Wenger believes it will be good for the confidence of the players as the new season begins next week.

“Confidence-wise it’s good, it’s positive, and it allows you to focus on your next game with belief. It shows your players that they’re doing something right and apart from that, now the Premier League starts. We have to turn up with the needed and demanded performance in every single game.

“We have a tricky start against West Ham United, Crystal Palace – the two derbies – and then Liverpool straight after. We need to keep a high level of urgency to start well because last year we had that problem.”

Also, Cold. As. Ice. Arsene, Cold as ice.

Fuck yeah, enjoy the win boss, you deserve it.

Saw this on the mirror:

“Wenger produced the best post-match line when he claimed the presence of Cech had influenced Chelsea into believing they needed to score the perfect goal in order to beat their old team-mate.”

Ah, Arsene, you wily scoundrel, you…

Mourinho is a cunt! Such a massive pretentious cunt!

Arsepedant

Moronho is a cunt of such impossible magnitude that he simultaneously occupies positions one through infinity on the all-time cuntitude list.

(I know it’s not an original line, but it just fit the situation so perfectly I had to plagiarize it.)

2015-2016 = the year we've been waiting for

Stephen Hawking agrees with your theory

timmeh

-1 to the arsenal players who shook that cunt’s hand. they shold have ignored him or even better ..spat at him. only gabriel paulista and konscielny treated mou with disgust. bravo gabriel. bravo kons. the rest failed.

It’s only because poor little Chelsea hardly spend anything…. And because Arsenal scored a lucky goal and parked the bus…. Chelsea always remain true to their attacking traditions….

W*nker, Mourinho.

Good to know we’ve knocked out the last bad juju that loomed over Wenger’s head (and the club) but now to shift our focus to bringing the title to the Emirates for the first time. It’s been a long ride but slowly and surely, we’ve put the right pieces together and just need to execute while staying healthy. Not to mention sanchez + welbz + wilshere to come into the team! I realistically expect to be at wembly come may, semis in CL and top 2 in the league. Can’t be too much to ask for can it?

mo974

Well done to the boys. This team is so confident and united. A great season if we are injury free. We are going to run away with the Title , at least its smells like that. And Alexis and Jack weren’t present.Patience is a virtue and Arsene personify that. The rewards are coming.

WizardofOzil

Just watched the game now. In big games in the past we’ve tried coming out of the traps too quick and been exposed immediately on the counter. Delighted with how we managed our tempo today and stayed calm even when they were dominating possession.

Beating Chelsea is impressive, it’s us vs them this season imo. And we’ve overcome an important psychological hurdle against them today. Bodes well.

Danger Mouse

Oh Arsene that was just so good. Never thought one man blanking another man could give me so much pleasure. Beautiful.

Epdmi

I would love to hear Arsene Wenger use the word “hurdle”

ArseMansBackInTown

I don’t expect us to ever lose a game again, quite frankly. We’ve got quite good at this football stuff.

I loved the look on that cunt JT’s face when he realised he got beaten by a well parked red bus.

London is red after all 😉 COYG!

Love that togetherness and solidarity line

Every time Terry sheds a tear an angel gets it’s wings

You want Arsene to shake your hand? Put on a freaking tie!

Awesomesauce

To be honest, it looked to me like Mourinho was planning to do something disrespectful to Arsene by ignoring him at the end, to which Arsene totally predicted and never gave him the chance to do so. People may call this Arsene being childish, but I would view it more as Arsene being unwilling to get sucked into Mourinho’s childish games. People will also say that Arsene is a hypocrite for speaking about manager’s needing to respect each other following this type of an action, however, they fail to put this into context. Arsene always gave Mourinho the respect he… Read more »

Another N11 gooner

Just delighted to see the translator blanked by the professor and putting that shit record to an end. Just have to do them in the league to be sure to be sure.

Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding

To blank a man who has consistently shown such crass and unprovoked disrespect to a fellow manager after beating his team at his own game is just priceless. Well done Arsene.

Mourinhos made himself look like a right tit this week

Ben

Just this week?

Oh yes… last week it was left tit.

Golden Ben, pure gold!

I AM ARSENAL

That moment from Wenger was cool as fuck..Some James Bond type shit, being that smooth to just slide past that motherfucker but making sure everyone knows it was a cold as ice move….Hes not here to play games this season, reminds me of the myopic Wenger (who i loved aswel) ”who didn’t see it’ the guy that used to get under old red faces skin.
Skye’s the limit for this team

NYCgun

On snub-gate:
“I shook a few hands today after the game, but there’s NOTHING SPECIAL THERE,” said Wenger.

The man is a GENIUS.

Getso gunner

Next should be to snatch that EPL trophy come May, 2016

AntiSpud

Typical. Blaming somebody for not touching shit? Well done Wenger

TeeCee

Just out of interest, anyone know the odds of Foul Cow being on loan at Stoke next season?
Assuming he really wants to make a go of it in English football, that’s gotta be worth a tenner of anyone’s money.

WengersNoseHair

“Wenger pleased with win and avoiding shaking hands with a turd.”

santori

All these numpties who keep reating tired old lines. Arsenal will never win a trophy the cabinet is gathering dust. I think we will need a new one soon and we have 13 FA cups now for the record. Arsenal always give up a lead. Not since many seasons past with newcastle and that was against us with 10 men and no recognisable Cback, plus they only nicked a draw which they celebrated (with the media) as if they won the league. Small club mentality. Arsenal can’t beat the big teams. First Lyon are supposed to be a mediocre team… Read more »

big up to the boys… the team is improving …since the turn of 0-2 win over man city.. 1-2 @ oldthrashford… now hazard neutralised at wemberly..

Mourihno has made passive-aggression an art form. Years of snide, dismissive and disrespectful comments towards Arsene, and when Arsene reciprocates with a subtle but pointed gesture (refusing to shake Mourihno’s hand), Mou pouts and plays the victim.
He’s so easy to hate. God. I. Hate. Him.

WengersNoseHair

Well done to the kid who lobbed a missile at Maureen, sign him up! Knighthood is on it’s way.

AlexGoon

The special oneker deserves nothing less. I think Wenger has had to put up with this school yard bully for long enough. It’s good to see us slap him back inn the face for once. His response was typically child like. I think he made the win far more sweet for every Arsenal fan after he hoffed his losers medal into the crowd.

COYG

p.s. We didn’t have Sanchez

Goonsquad

You could see Mourinho was only standing at the bottom of the steps shaking hands with the players because he could see Arsene coming down and thought he could engineer a moment. Sadly for him Arsene was way ahead of him and took the opportunity to wind him up again, which worked so well it sent Jose stamping off down the tunnel and made hum throw his medal away. A nice classic Wenger move. It was almost as enjoyable as seeing the smile on Cech’s face when he followed through on that collection and punched Terry on the back of… Read more »
