Cech: I was just doing my bit

Petr Cech’s performance against Bayern Munich played a big part in the Gunners 2-0 win last night, but in typically modest fashion the Arsenal keeper says he was just doing his job in the wake of praise from his manager and pundits.

Cech made some important stops, particularly early in the game, and one from Robert Lewandowski just seconds before we opened the scoring through Olivier Giroud.

He highlighted their importance, but also praised his defenders for their contribution to another clean sheet.

“I would say that I’m pleased with my performance,” he said. “Whenever they managed to get through our defensive block I was there to help my team-mates.

“I’m very glad in the second half there was a turning point when I saved the one v one with Lewandowski then a few minutes later we scored the first goal which was probably the decisive moment of the game.

“I’m pleased with my performance but I’m pleased with the team’s performance as I thought we had been up for the game.

“Obviously if Thiago had scored early in the game then they would have had control of the game so it was a very important save at the start and then I’m obviously glad I made the save against Lewandowski as in that moment we could have been 1-0 down instead of in a few minutes we were 1-0 up and basically decided the game because this team as much as it went up and down and there was chances and shots and it was very entertaining, it looked like one goal might decide it.

“We are glad that we were the team that scored the goal.”

Cech also took time to praise his opposite number, Manuel Neuer, who pulled off a brilliant save from Theo Walcott to deny the England man in the first half.

“I thought we had scored,” he said. “The moment we saw somebody was running and the header I thought it was in and made the ball bounce back.

“It was an unbelievable save and he kept them in the game.”

And the big man is hopeful that last night’s result will help bring about another good night in Munich in a couple of weeks time.

“We go to Munich knowing we can compete with them and we are positive we are in another game where we can get points and obviously it will depend on how the game will go but it has been a great night tonight and lets see what will happen in the future.”

The phrase ”match winning keeper” should be tattooed on that man’s arse.

onearsenewenger

why the arse though? I will get it tattooed on my dick.

goonerestgooner

How do you know it isn’t?

Arsebjørn

You did more than “your bit” Cech. If it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t have won this game.
I’m so grateful we got him for almost nothing and the fact we got him from Chelsea and the #1 cunt makes it even sweeter!
We’re more than capable of winning the league COYG!!!!

MC1892

I was one of Szczesny’s most ardent fans, and although I always wanted Cech, part of me did think Wojciech would push on and actually win his place back a lot sooner than some thought. Cech’s arrival, however, has shown me just how far away Szczesny is from the label ‘world class’ I thought he was soon to earn. I’d say 95% of the saves Cech makes he shovels way out wide, letting the defense regroup totally. Such a simple thing but makes such a huge difference, and only the real top level keepers are able to do it. I’m… Read more »

There are a lot of players in the arsenal dressing room I’m slightly in love with too. So many wonderful personalities!

Gooneron

World Class goalkeeper we have.
He kept us in the game long enough for us to win the game.

koku

I have never felt so assured watching arsenal play a big team like Bayern Munich and i can only say thanks to this man… what a signing, worth every penny. that being said, I didn’t get the mini heart attacks i have become used to with Arsenal. People wont have anything to whinge about. Arsene is spoiling football with his good tactics, exciting football and awesome players. We have nothing to be miserable about now. #WengerOut

MannyG

This guy is one of the greatest keepers ever, and he’s that humble. Brilliant!
It’s really telling how important he is to us now. Saved our skins a few times

Sean

His world class bit.

Ehsan

Wish he was a bit younger and could play for 10 years + for us in the future, I love his character. I think his leading ability gonna save us a lots of points in this year. He and per are great leaders.
And I gotta give credit to Wenger, he pulled out some great transfers lately:
First Cazorla then Oezil and Sanchez and now Cech.

Well done!

Mate Kiddleton

Monreal and Gabriel weren’t bad January deals either!

Cech's Hat

I’m beginning to fall in love with this guy.

Jay Song

Hope he gets to enjoy more trophy winning career here than Chelsea. COYG

El Niño Maravilla

Petr is exactly what this club needed; a match winning, world class, dominating, influential, and commanding force between the sticks.

I like Ospina, he’s not without fault, but he doesn’t have the same presence that allows that confidence to radiate throughout the team like Petr has.

We wouldn’t be celebrating three points this morning without Cech playing last night, and frankly, I want to have his children.

Ferngunner

Okay why don’t i have any recollection of him with the chavs?????

Strange.

Must be the overall class exuded by Arsenal players that’s diluted him turning up for them all those years.

Gooners & Roses

Let’s hope his footballing years is similar to Rosicky!

Ozil's eyes

That decision to rest Petr Cech in earlier games against Zagreb and Olympiacos looking more and more ridiculous.

Burger

“We are glad that we were the team that scored the goal.”

I never thought of it that way before. I’ve been playing all wrong!

AlbZ

Cech was a massive transfer and is so important for the squad.
And it also shows that you can’t just say “We have the same players as last year so we’ll be the same as then because we only bought one player”.
Wenger’s specialty has never really been tactics, it’s been player development – we’ve just always had to sell them before reaping the benefits. Now we have a squad he mostly developed with a few brilliant additions – and we’re finally capable of beating big teams again.

chibs

We made two excellent signings this summer.
1. A world class humble keeper
2. His infectious maturity.

Kee word for me yesterday was maturity

Ger

A sincere word of thanks to Jose

Arsenal Runnings

Wenger knows….He got us what is needed, they all did their *BIT*

Paul

Brilliant keeper, having him has added years to my life!
