Swansea 0-3 Arsenal – player ratings

A very well won three points today against Swansea (report here), considering the lack of options it was a game in which we had to show resolve and determination.

When we did, and defended conscientiously, the goals came in the second period. Here’s how the players rated.

Fuck me Mesut. They’ll be calling them Oz-ists by the end of the season. Second half performance was a thing of beauty. Completely destroyed Jonjo.

Gunnermite

that moment when he controlled the ball with his chest and laid a pass which caused two swans to collide with each other, pure gold.

Tenzo (Theo's secret lover)

I know right? That shit had me in conniptions.

Ferngunner

I gasped with amazement then i remembered it’s just world class Ozil.

Rufusstan

I couldn’t work out what he’d done at first to hurt the Swansea guy, especially when it wasn’t a foul.

Seeing it was simply dodging Williams, made it funny as well as classy.

Greg Bush

Once again Hector putting in a shift and a half, becoming some player!

WineArse

And he literally busted a gut.

Ferngunner

Post couldn’t penetrate Hectors abs of steel; which he must posses because the contact was extreme.

Cornelius P. Snuffington III

Maybe Swansea should be glad Bellerin’s abs didn’t splinter the upright in two.

Arsepedant

Just got the injury report on that goal frame. It has a cracked pole and will be out for four to six weeks.

Inanimate carbon rod meets lightning quick superkid…inanimate carbon rod comes off worse.

COYG

wizardry

Gomis’ reaction to The Flash’s interception, Priceless.

TexasGooner

Love it! Bellerin is the fastest EPL player – with huge quality to go along with it! Is it official that his nickname is The Flash?

Tim

First I’ve seen of it, but let’s make it official. el Flash?

Phil Collins' first touch

Couldn’t resist
http://imgur.com/xTZ3xLw

Third Plebeian

Is it official that he’s currently the league’s best RB?

Santi's Smile

Calling him the best right back in the league almost doesn’t do him justice. He is so much better than the competition, that he is playing his own position.

Phil Collins' first touch

Bonus rating: 10/10 – José Mourinho providing me with just about as much amusement a man can have within the realms of the law.

Mehdi

I feel slightly guilty for enjoying another man’s woes soooo much.

ClydeMutua

Medhi. It means saviour in Arabic, right? When you feel guilty just remember it’s Mourinho and his arrogance is paying back

Stewart Robson's therapist

Jose Mourinho isn’t a man. He’s a rat.

bestie

Rats would dispute that comparison.

AnonymousGun

You call him shit and shit would dispute that!

Ferngunner

Some think he is begging for the sack (get a new start elsewher..chicken!) but i think the cunty shitty management he employs combined with his distateful persona have finally caught up to him

Rufusstan

Funnier than more than a few things outside the realm of the law as well.

He called Wenger a ‘Voyeur’. This feels more like rubbernecking as you pass a car crash.

broken heart of Dein

Campbell took his first chance like hell no way this AOC guy deserves to walk back in there, looked much more reliable at both ends

Bosscielny

Big shout out to bellerin.
Amazing last ditch tackle against gomis after running half the length of the pitch.

Incredible clearance off the line by putting his body on the line even though it turned out to be offside anyway.

Mike

I love bellerin

He is the best right back in the league

ZA Gooner

Haaaaaaaa, it feel good to be a Gunner!

Well done to the Lads, we were Away to our “Hoodoo” team, and the lads put in an amazing shift. First half was hard, but second we controlled.

Dare I say, this is the stuff Champion are made off!

Well done Campell on his Debut, and well Done Ozil for only being second to Messi with Assists in ALL the Top Leagues in the last 8 seasons.

craig

Sanchez’s passing set up that golden Giroud chance in the first half, and another chance as well. That one pass could and should have been the match-winner. He wasn’t his usual self, but he was still effective.

GKD

Oi Alexis,

It’s been three matches mate. By your standards, ’tis fair to say that you owe us a hat-trick. This midweek would be fine. Ta

No Pressure.

PS: Also, … … … on second thoughts, I have nothing to say.

TTT

Ajinkya

Ozil… he assists when he wants to!!!

Ferngunner

He apparently also body-checks when he wants to. 🙂

chopper4001

MO showing that he’s the best player in the league. Put your bets on now for POTY people.

duno

Cech plays for us.

Yacine

Is that signing looking more brilliant by the match or what? It’s like Jens Lehmann but without the crazy…

Gooneron

Am sure Bellerins six pack bent the post. My heart skipped a bit imagining Montero vs. Debuchy were Bellerin injured

Slysoulman

If I was Chinese my second child would be named MesutOzil. Something for Chinese Gooners to think about.

eternalflamini

If you have nothing to say, I would suggest taking a leaf out of Maureen’s book rather than coming up with this bilge.

Cannoner

Aren’t we all glad Joel didn’t get out while he could have while even happier that Cech did!

Consice Pete

Campbell: the new Coq.
Looked most confident today.
More of the same please.

AnonymousGun

We are glad Joel didnt get out while he could and we are glad Cech get out while he could.

bims lay

Well played to all the lads and another difficult three points made to look easy and again earned with style.

Boy!!…..is Bellarin fast??…he really is the flash!….guys, we have one hell of a player on our hands! COYG!

Dan

Great first start in the league can’t wait for him to develop a good understanding with the rest of the squad and dare I say Ramsey and the ox will have a real fight on their hands

Merson's grin

Campbell did everything required today. The goal will help his confidence, a hat trick in mid week would be nice.

bsinGooner

The way Giroud used BFG as a decoy was absolutely amazing.

Also, its great to see Campell scoring in his first PL start. When everyone trusted him for the spot on the right over other options like moving players around, it was great to see him repaying them all and how!

Stewart Robson's therapist

Bonus points to Koscielny for finally acquiring his own song. Arsenal fans have gone disco for him.

IndoGooner

The curse of our captain ? I don’t remember but from what i remember it starts from Henry, he became our captain for one season, and then move to another team next season after that, that also happen to cesc and rvp, and then after that Arteta, although he stays at our club, his play time is becoming lesser and lesser, and than after that is Per, i think our 1st central defender will be Kos and Gabriel next season.

Arsepedant

What idiocy is this? Mertesacker’s going nowhere.

KoyaGun

Be honest, you did this for the thumbs down, yeah?

IndoGooner

I don’t know why people thumbed down me, i just try something in my mind honesty. now, i prefer Kos – Gabriel, than Kos – Per, i’m not saying that Per will go somewhere, but i think next season our main central defender will be Kos – Gabriel, if you look how Gabriel made that tackle last week against everton, and how Per made that handball when facing swansea freekick, that’s the reason why i prefer Kos – Gabs

Chilli

I’m a confused

eternalflamini

Really glad blogs mentioned Coquelin’s passing, it has improved all out of recognition. He was fantastic as a ball winner last season, but now he seems to have imbibed some of Cazorla’s inch perfect passing ability as well. He is even better this season than the last, what an amazing story.

Gillespie Road

Take you chance while you can, Joel?

Someone's Something

Özils assist points almost equal to Chelsea league points!

Saud

Our away fans are amazing. The other week they finally came up with a wonderful song for Bossielny and now chanted Bellerin’s name. Well deserved.

Next up, I think Özil could do with a new song and something for the Coq too everytime he goes in and wins a crunching tackle. Something like a barrage of “COQ COQ COQ” or “You got Coqed” to rub that salty salt on them bruised egos.

TT

What are the tunes?!

neutral

If you want to get down
down on the ground
coquelin

to the tune of Clapton’s cocaine

Rip Van's Winkel

Clapton may have taken it, but J..J.Cale wrote it.

Runkeball

And Coquelin is about to own it!

Johnwaynesimpson

Get out when you can Joel! 🙂

Man Manny

All we need to do is to keep City in our sights till our big players start coming back.
It will be one hell of a two horse race from January.
One thing is sure: this team doesn’t look like one that will implode. I believe.

East Gooner

I’m going to take a slice of humble pie and I’m going to enjoy it because Joel Campbell proved me wrong. After the shambles of midweek I wrote him off but he was very good today. He is not a player who can carry the team like a Sanchez but within his own right he is a good player and can contribute as he did with his goal today. And Ozil was world class again. 9 assists in just 11 games. With 27 more to go, it is a real possibilty that he could take King Henry’s crown for the… Read more »

Gunner_Fan

One thing folks haven’t mentioned is his super dribble early in the first half with a final pass that almost set up Ozil. Had he got that right, it’d have been fantastic.

But I wish he pressed a little high though and kept his head too. Ozil was urging that all game

overmars

Joel was trying to get a pacifier to celebrate the goal as a dedication to his young daughter I think. Sweet and wonderful moment for him.

Bendtnerschristmastree

Weekends have become so much better this year. The combination of Arsenal winning and Chelsea humiliating themselves is priceless.

Oh to be a gooner!

Shazam

Messist Özil be having greeting Wenger like: Good day, Sir. How may I assist your squad?

The 49ners

What a weekend to be a gunner…once again bring on th German bullies let’s serve them a sour mug of beer.. COYG

Name

Arsenal showed so much character not just today but this whole season. I am most happy the the club is learning from mistakes and the whole squad seems lifted if you will, there is an air of confidence that was missing. We don’t rely on one player, the up and coming players seem inspired by the more experienced and talented core of the team. Honestly I don’t see a weak link in any player on the pitch. Yes, the bench isn’t as good as I would like but let’s be fair, Arsenal have overachieved , considering the circumstances, they had… Read more »

I expected to get tired of laughing at Chelsea by now, turns out i was wrong.
COYG!

Runkeball

Watching match of the day yesterday me and the girlfriend cancelled sex because we’d already climaxed at the sight Arsenal winning and Liverpool thumping Chelsea.

Ferngunner

Chelsea again mounting pressure on Aston Villa at the table’s foot.

Oozing_Coq

When Mourinho said he was a SPECIALIST most of us thought he was joking.
SPECIALIST IN FAILURE.
ha ha ha ha.
Don’t sack him please.
“I’VE NOTHING TO SAY.”

Skinnyarse

Really chuffed for Joel, well done lad ??

AnthonyG

Yep, good on him. Did well. With experience he’ll not isolate himself in traffic so much and he’ll have a better time of it.

TexasGooner

Well done Campbell! One of the best today – he had the most tackles, blocks and shots on goal than anyone else in the team – and of course he finished his goal with great composure.

He messed up the goal celebration as he struggled to find a baby pacifier inside his short (in honor of her baby daughter) – I would have preferred that he would have run straight away to Ozil to thank him for such a peach of an assist!

Arsenish

It’s so pleasing to see us scoring from dead ball situation and even more pleasing to see us not concede from those. In the past we have been guilty of not scoring enough from our set pieces, and conceding generously from those. Giroud! Bellerin!!!!! When is Welbeck, Wilshere back btw?

Satnam Singh

Thankyou Arsene Wenger for signing Mesut and Santi . Pure class .
If you love football you love Arsene Wenger
The way he makes us play is sometimes breathtaking.

duke

Coq is underrated. I bet he gets 2 1/2 stars in FM 2016, even though he deserves at least 4.

Yes, I know FM has nothing to do with real life…I’m using it as an example of the lack of respect the dude gets in the footballing world. He may not be the flashiest, but we would be so fucked without him…

santori

Media fallacies as perpetuated sadly by many of our more gullible fans : But we don’t score goals and we need a World Class striker – 4 goals off of City and Giroud now four in five (not counting two on International) suggest we don’t. But Arsenal are weak in defense and likely to switch off. Well, we are joint with City in the stingy league here. But all the other teams are inconsistent this season that’s why Arsenal may have a chance. Really? City inconsistent? Maybe we were inconsistent last season as were all the other teams bar Chelsea… Read more »

Need i remind you that we’ve lost to Dynamo Zagreb, Olympiacos and Sheffield Wednesday this season so hold your horse’s before you talk.

If any of Ozil, Cazorla, Sanchez or Coquelin are out for any length of time this season let’s see what happens! If the results and performances of the matches i’ve mentioned above are anything to go by, not very well.

Runkeball

Zagreb and Olympiacos are fair points, we were shit against them, but with the number of inexperienced youngsters we used against Wednesday that defeat can hardly compare to the other two.

Trez

Lets pray that never happens because if it does, we are really screwed.
Our bench atm is so short of quality that it isn’t even funny.
One more injury and you’ll see just how thin this squad truly is.

Bellecoq

Bellerin was like, “no, you are not scoring while I’m on the pitch.”

ER1

Couldn’t see the game and no video highlights available online… what was wrong with Campbell’s celebration ??

TexasGooner

He messed up the celebration. He had a baby pacifier under his shorts, which he attempted to pull out and put on after scoring (in honour of his baby girl). It took him forever to get the damn pacifier out, he finally put it on when basically when everyone else had returned to restart the game. It does not take away from his great composure to collect the ball with a great first touch followed by a great finish.

I would have preferred to see him run straight away to hug Ozil to thank him for the awesome assist.

Ferngunner

It was truly tremendous composure.

I keep thinking Chambo would have somehow bundled it over or just knocked it straight into bodies.

Great site for a US fan who isn’t good at getting up early on weekends…

mabiribobi

Bellerin plays like Cafu!

Arsenalnut

If Cafu had been really fast and cared about playing defense.

edzo

I think cesc fabregas played well off the bench. I wonder if he’s excited about playing in the championship next season.

JustAGooner

Fabianski, your love to arsenal is undoubtfully true! Well done.

Mark

This matched showed more than any other one that we are true title contenders this year. Yes we spanked United at home, but that was at home with a fairly full squad. Today we had to go on the road against an opponent that has given us a great deal of trouble without so many key players. Our bench was pretty much 6 defensive players and one attacker that nobody ever thought would even see the bench this year. We were much more solid defensively and seemed to be willing now to concede the ball for stretches while not getting… Read more »

naija gooner

What a gutsy collective away performance. There was a time not so long ago when we would have lost a game like this. Sign of champions methinks!!! That time when Giroud went down though……my heart literally skipped like three beats, then again when Hector got way too close to post.
