Into the 4th round of the FA Cup, a decent performance in what was a good cup tie, goals and a debut for The Jeff.
A good day all in all, here’s how the players rated.

a 10/10 for me for being first again
Beat me to it. Congrats mate.☺️
Maybe you guys are new in town, but we commentors here on Arseblog news don’t take to kindly to the whole “I’m first, good for me” marlarkey. Now drink you’re milk and get on your horses….
You’re. . Your.. I’m a bit confused
Adriano and nacho!!!! What is with this being first business? Do you really have nothing better to do than wait for a new article to be posted?
No one gives a shit, take your talents to Troll Football or Sp*rs blog.
10/10 for you getting all your comments from now on placed in moderation. Well played!
Howdy Arseblog,
Have you considered implementing a reddit-style comment shifting system, whereby the cream (most thumbs up) rises to the top? Then scum posts like these inevitably float to the bottom… You have some really interesting people posting in here, but unfortunately, if their insightful comments are written more than half an hour after your article, it’s pretty hard to find them down the bottom.
Have thought about it, but not sure how to do it
Come on Jeff!!!!!
Come on, Jeff*
Dude. Phrasing.
I apologize for my outburst…….
Don’t apologise to us, apologise to Jeff.
Extra point for Walcott for the bump with that young fan.Nice of him to give away his shirt too.
He’s just the sort of guy who would give you the shirt off his back.
I might be falling in love with Joel Campbell.
Spectacular performance from the lad today, not many mention his passing and vision but he’s obviously learning a thing or two from Ozil.
If he keeps learning and improving, he could be un-droppable next season he’s that good. Has pace, can dribble, can finish, can create and pass, plus he has an engine on him to get back defensively as well.
The quality of Campbell’s pre-assist for Ramsey’s goal deserves much credit, as his pass to Bellerin literally split Sunderland’s defence wide open.
What I love about Campbell is that he is a proper player. You just know that, as a kid, he spent hours & hours & hours practising his ball skills, and playing street football, whenever and wherever he could, and was as happy as a kitten up a tree doing what he loved.
He does that thing where he falls over and recovers the ball, its like hes been watching old Theo videos
Personally would have rated The Ox higher, thought he ran the midfield from our point of view and had lots of nice dribbles, would’ve easily been one of our men of the match had his shot swerved in
Yes, I thought he played well. Looked like himself again.
I concur as well. I think he is yet to “shorten his technique”. Regardless, he is an interesting option in the middle. Pace, dribbles, and an eye for goal as well. I think Walcott has improved on his defensive attributes. But the wing is no longer good for him. Sanchez and Campbell are more effective playing from/at the wings. Of course am talking on his diminished return of goals ever since he started covering for Sanchez. He links up with speedy and visionary players well and that is his greatest asset. The quality of his runs leading to goals. On… Read more »
Good to see Campbell and Ox get a chance to step up in the absence of the Ozil, Ramsey and Sanchez and be able to get on the ball more. Chamberlin is getting more confident it seems, just has to be careful about overdribbling sometimes. I’d like to see Campbell continue to get on the ball more as he is really finding his stride. Was good to see Arteta get back in there, don’t know how much of a role he’ll play going forward, but for his sake I am glad he was able to get into a home match… Read more »
He’s nearly there but not quite at the moment. Some of his dribbling was amazing, some less so. Similarly with his passing. He still needs to work on a few things but he’s definitely moving in the right direction.
Good win from a good second half. First half had me worried about a replay. I liked what I saw from Iwobi. Would’ve loved to see more of The Jeff but hey, can’t complain.
Thought Iwobi did really well in Ozil’s position, got into the same sort of holes that Ozil so often finds himself in, and was productive with the ball. A very promising performance…. Also despite all the criticism of Arteta, I think he dovetails with Ramsey really well, he’s a real calming influence for when Ramsey’s bombing forward.
If he gets a few more games under his belt and continues to improve I hope to see the Press accusing him “nicking a living” in the tradition of Mesut Ozil. I can just see the back pages: “The Jeff Nicking A Living” – Once again The Jeff (What kind of a first name is “The”?) did little of note all game. For his three “so-called” assists he was lucky that an teammate just happened to be in exactly the right place at the right time to tap the ball home, and his “perfect” hat trick was fortuitous. It can… Read more »
Oops, bit of “transference” there. Give it a year though and we could have three players “nicking a living”.
missed the game due to a blackout here but glad to see the youngsters did well.
Another great performance from Joel ‘not much good at the old attacking’ Campbell.
Jury is still out on him… ahh forget it.. he’s shite
Every time I see the season averages, I cringe. What that says is: when our players have a bad day, they REALLY have a bad day.
Also, Jeff looks like he can be the next Pogba. Hope we keep him till then and beyond.
I’m sure there has to be something wrong with the calculation of those averages. There is no way Cech has been a 5.5/10 this season, and 4s for Campbell, Walcott and Chambers make no sense either – that would mean that for every 6 or 7 performance they’ve had a 1 or 2 performance as well, and that’s just not true.
Woops, nevermind, this has been confirmed by blogs a few comments down.
I thought we missed Alexis, Santi, Welbeck and Coq today.
We need some strength in depth!
Wenger out!
But seriously: What a joy to see how Wenger has steadily built up Iwobi and The Jeff! The Ox in central, Campbell, Chambers and I could go on.
I love Wenger and his Master Plan. We do have strength in depth even if they haven’t cost us a fortune 🙂
I was joking!!!!
Maybe Ox really should be playing in the central midfield like Wenger has alluded to for ages
based on…?
I thought he was a bit better than recently and hopefully he has turned a corner but its a long way from deserving a starting spot in the centre. Still seemed sloppy at times and was leggy after 60 mins… I haven’t seen the highlights but felt his pass for the Jeff at the end was poor when he could have laid it on a plate for him (?)
Were you watchi he same game as the rest of us?? The Ox’s pass to Jeff was perfect. Jeff just botched it up. The ox deserved an 8 today
He can’t play there until his first touch gets a lot better. He was all over the place today on that.
Good performance overall but you can’t play a guy who regularly knocks the ball a year or two away with his first touch in the center of midfield. Better teams would have punished us for it.
A solid performance. Nice to see the lads step-up in the absence of Ozil and Alexis…and Rosicky…and Wilshere…and Cazorla
Quite surprised to see Cechs season average at only 5.5. Bar the West Ham game he has been excellent for us.
There’s no way those are correct something must be off with the system, Campbell and Chambers’ “averages” are supposedly 4, though I don’t recall either of them ever getting a rating lower than that and plenty of ones higher.
Wonder if there’s some formula that involves the total games in the season rather than those that players have actually appeared in? Surely Cech’s only been below 5.5 once, if that, and above it every other game he’s played. Can’t be quite right.
Did blogs not ‘accidently’ insert Szczesny for the Soton game? which makes the low rating all the more odd,
The averages are fucked, we have to fix them but it’s proving tricky!
maths is hard.
Bellerin is our Ozil today….. fantastic to watch
not sure why you’re being sarcastic about the Ramsey thing. it was very legitimate for supporters to be upset with his decision making over the past few matches, especially the selfishness of the miss you’re alluding too. he did very well today, so let’s just leave it at that. hopefully it’s one to continue to build on. p.s. Giroud should get an 8 as well, a goal, an PK that should have been, and he was doing a lot of the dirty work in the first half.
So selfish. How dare he shoot from five yards out when one on one with the Newcastle keeper.
Remember the Ramsey goal vs Villa a few weeks back? …Ozil in 1v1 with the keeper, squares the ball to Ramsey for a tap-in, because he’s a proper team player and he couldn’t give a fish’s tit which of his team score the goals, so long as they score.
The criticism of Ramsey for not passing on that occasion and for often sacrificing the team for his own desire to score goals with his disregard for defence and seeing a game out with minutes to go is warranted, whether you like it or not.
Ramsey is a professional and if there is a player in a better position to score than him, I don’t see why it is wrong to criticize him if he has made the wrong decision, not with just hindsight, but through experience
Totally agree re Ramsey, he’s been a bit selfish at times recently and hasn’t always made the best decision for the team, the fact that he did well today and scored doesn’t change that. Hopefully will put him back towards the right track though.
He passed it tbf. Into the net.
Should have done the same for Newcastle but Blogs doesn’t think he warrants criticism for some reason.
Credit to Ramsey for taking the goal well but at the same time the question ‘What exactly is Ramsey, a MF doing where Giroud or a striker usually finds himself’ is the reason why a lot are still unimpressed with him.
Also, if you are gonna keep making runs & play like a striker, then you are gonna get stick when you mess up chances/promising situations, which, lest people tend to forget, Ramsey does a lot.
“Oh, hang on, he probably should have passed there.”
No he shouldn’t! He put it right where it fucking belonged. In the cunting net!
YAY!!!
No check the replay again, Arteta was wide open for a simple 35 yard screamer, poor vision from Ramsey
Agree with the comment, a bit less so with your use of the gerund.
his gerunding..
Well thought Ramsey gerunded it very well today.
If you are referring to the use of c*nting, then it’s a gerundive – a verbal adjective.
The Grammar Police.
Evenin’ all.
Walcott seems to have improved as a footballer. He has always been a competent if not excellent finisher but his all round game especially his dribbling, passing and general involvement in the game is definitely improving.
The Jeff came on and then all was right with the World. 10/10
I thought gibbs deserved a higher rating. Had a really good game both offensively and defensively.
If you watch Gibbs closely at corners he comes off second best almost every time. He doesn’t apply himself well defensively at setpieces aswell. He again luckily was not punished again today for some slack defending.
Defending the far post from headers is a very hard thing to do. Even Monreal, who is about as solid a LB as you will find, struggles with it sometimes. If you have your FB defending the far post from a big CF you can’t expect him to really hold his own.
Where I did take some points off Gibbs was for that stupid pass to Kos. Kos screwed it up after that too but he should never have been put in that position.
How many times has the Ox hit the woodwork this season? For all his recent faults he has had some very unlucky misses, starting to feel sorry for him in that respect. So much love for the Ramsey caption. I don’t deny that he still makes mistakes at times but the attacks on his character from Arsenal fans have left me furious. His attitude is exactly what we need to encourage – players who are not afraid of responsibility, who want to take the initiative, and don’t let their heads drop if what they’re trying doesn’t quite come off. Ramsey… Read more »
I have seen criticism of him hoofing the ball a bit too often but I’ve missed any alleged attacks on his character. Are you sure you haven’t confused him with Debuchy?
All this stuff about him being selfish, individualistic, glory-seeking, not a team player, arrogant since getting a modelling contract, the 13-14 season has gone to his head, etc. I even saw the word narcissist being thrown around on Reddit. It’s awful, and it’s so far removed from who Ramsey really is. I love him, he’s my favourite Arsenal player and I’ll always fight his corner.
OK, that may well be the case. I rarely pay attention to what goes on outside the Arseblog sphere. At least in here what criticisms I’ve seen has been about him being trigger happy when a pass would suffice.
Who doesn’t love Welsh Jesus? Surely everyone does? Fluffed goal opportunities or not he’s to handsome, Welsh Jesusy and loveable not to love. Because he’s ours!
the ‘glory-seeking’ attacks are pretty common on here.
it got pretty bad after the game prior to this one, against Newcastle. I was appalled.
this is not to say that Arsenal players should be exempt from criticism, but rather it should be fair and constructive.
I was one of the people criticising him after that game. I still don’t recall anything personal from anyone. Not on the scale of what Debuchy has received lately. I do recall a few butt hurt individuals who seem to think that criticism is the same as a personal attack. I thought his game against Newcastle was good but he was too trigger happy in front of goal and I remember two chances that went wide where he could be passing the ball. I think that’s a fair criticism but at the end of the day, what the hell do… Read more »
Runkeball… you need to get over yourself where Ramsey is concerned. It’s telling that when a comment appears that’s supportive of Ramsey and critical of personal attacks against him, up you pop (once again) to reiterate how fair and even-handed your own comments were. And when it comes to these personal attacks suddenly you “don’t recall anything personal from anyone”. Other people comment just to remind you that yes, personal attacks against Ramsey are common, and you go “I still don’t recall…”
Give it a rest mate. Your bias is showing.
He has 6 goals in 98 appearances. pretty atrocious but a talent no doubt.
bullshit spotted
That is actually Ox’s premier league record (as the comment heroldgoon replied to was about Ox). Although there’s no indication of how many of those games were short substitutions, and his record in all competitions (as well as internationals) is quite a bit better.
What rubbish. He scored eleven goals last season alone, hell knows how far 98 games goes back.
Talking of Chamberlain there mate.
Ah. Really sorry about that, just assumed because the rest of the conversation had been about Ramsey that you were leading on from that. I actually think the Ox needs to get a bit of Rambo in him, it seems to me that he dwells too much on mistakes and his confidence is very fragile.
Couldn’t watch the game…but still happy
And The Welsh Jesus said “let their be a goal”
And there was a goal, and it was good.
I believe the King James’ Bible says “and it was fucking good” actually.
And it was fucking excellent.
Outrageous Atkinson denied us that penalty and red card to Sunderland, had Cech not made that crucial save it would be a very nervy end and I’ll need my fingernails for the upcoming fixtures!
Agreed. And what a save from Cech. That run of play said a lot – Giroud got blatantly fouled, ref gave nothing, Sunderland ran down the other side and set up a pretty decent chance for themselves. In years past, that would have gone in, we would have wobbled, and suddenly, there we are again, saying, “Tsk, tsk, same old Arsenal.” But no, Cech saved the shot. But what really got me was the ensuing corner. They took the corner short, and fired it in close to the 6 yard line, and the catch Cech made just said ‘Oh FUCK… Read more »
Who would have taken the penalty? We know Giroud is good, but I think Arteta was on and he was the first choice. Sadly we were denied the opportunity. The commentators we had in Canada were speechless after the ref let it go. Where were the linesman and 4th ref on that one?!?!
Campbell was superb! COYG
I don’t get the mentality of some people who never give anyone a chance to improve. They seem to live in a fantasy football world of ‘world class’ talent only. Real life is different. Players improve. This is where statistics does not come into play, the intagibles. Who thought Bellerin (or Coquelin) based on their statistics would become such effective players so quickly? What makes these same numpties think Campbell cannot do the same? Much prefer an effective Campbell than say a “world class” Hazard that isn’t doing it or a Flamini to say Matic. Yet people will still say… Read more »
and is it me or does Le Jeff remind you of a fit and in form Diaby?
Behold, ladies and gentlemen, Aaron Ramsey used his left foot 🙂
Remember his left footed screamer against galatasaray?
Bonus points to Iwobi for the black hightop boots and the socks worn low.
Jeff is one player that I follow with keen interest.I believe, with luck with injury and right management, we have a future world class player in the making. Good to see that Ozil got his deserved rest. The only snag is whether we can rest Girous on Wednesday? We can have a front 3 of Walcott, Charmblain and Campbell. But only Wenger can decide.
Ramsey love in now, so agenda driven. This boy is average at best tbh
What game are you watching?
Probably the same one as Fatgooner.
troll
Cech season average is 5,5 How did that happen??
Amazing pass by Campbell for the 2nd if that were Ozil we would be talking for weeks. Great goal too surely deserves a 9 today.
Think Chambers did well considering he didn’t really have a proper midfield partner (not a dig at ox or iwobi, but they’re wide/attacking players)
I think Iwobi should get more credit today by the fans (Iwobi got 7,5 ; Jeff 8!!). He played very well but he was still shadowed by Jeff who did nothing. I loved Iwobi’s game and I rate him much higher than Jeff because he is more of a team player. How calm was he on the ball and his intelligence for 19 years old is incredible. He is way more smart than Chamberlain, Walcott, Ramsey,.. are already… He is the next big thing and I think he will be better and more complete footballer than Jeff.
Iwobi looks more than just a good prospect, has some pure drive.
The Ox is gaining match fitness. I hope he won’t be offered to Remi Garde on loan. He is a crucial part of this team and I hope he stays and earns his place as a mainstay. Iwobi, The Jeff…….. It feels nice that we are seeing a few youngsters do a job in the senior team. I hope they make the grade. The more of these we have, the stronger our core will be in future.
I remember someone on here last year giving it loads about how we wasted our time chasing Joel Campbell when we should have been making love eyes at Juan Mata. You silly silly boy
COYG!
sorry for that post. I just posted 2 time earlier and it didn’t worked :/. Was just checking if I can post something again (Please dalete both of them, and sorry).
Is it me or do refs in England interpret the rules according to their mood of the day?
Atkinson’s usually one of the referees I like (or at least don’t want to rush out and kill immediately), but he had a bit of a stinker today. Missed some obvious fouls on Giroud during 50/50 balls, but gave the same fouls against Arsenal players. And the penalty and accompanying red card that he didn’t give were about as cast iron as they possibly could have been.
I think Ox had a really good game, his rating is too low
Joel take a bow our kid,yet there are people out there who still think Campbell can’t make at the Arsenal. With every performance like this you keep proving the doubters wrong.Well done!
Özil was invisible today, waste of money.
#FACT
Well, after this match, it sums up why AW decided to start Iwobi. I really thought the hype should be on The Jeff. It’s great to know we have some exposing talents to rely on
Well, improvement in Ox form but I think the team will benefit more if he makes more passes rather than trying to do the Alexis. Still, it was a great night for him.
Great performance by Joel Campbell, surprised blogs didn’t bring up the brilliant nutmeg in the corner towards the end:
https://vine.co/v/ihYpV56ehp3
He was just so confident today, don’t think his attacking contribution has been as big in any game this season
So glad someone mentioned that nutmeg. Was starting to think no one else saw it.
When The Jeff lost the ball he did not sulk and stop playing. He took the ball back. It was His Jeffness’ ball. I like that. Must agree with Arsene. There was a twenty minute span where Hector was eager to make things happen and he did. Sometimes the only thing stopping him was that the ball went elsewhere. Our Hector is back with a vengeance. Theo must have been looking at Alexis and Campbell videos of how wing players properly defend. Early to mid second half (I think) he defended back to his own end line once and defended… Read more »
