A few weeks ago stories emerged that Arsenal had poached Leicester City scout Ben Wrigglesworth. He was part of a scouting set-up that unearthed players like Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante, both of whom arrived from Ligue Un, and have been instrumental in the Foxes’ title challenge.
Tonight, Wrigglesworth confirmed the move via Twitter, changing his status to ‘First Team Video Scout @Arsenal’
“After 3 + 1/2 unbelievable seasons, working with amazing people, I am now starting a new chapter. It was a very difficult decision, leaving Leicester, but I had to take an opportunity that doesn’t come round often.
“I only wish the best for Leicester in the future, and will always be eternally grateful to them for getting me to where I am.”
So, another addition to our backroom staff, and some fresh new blood added to a scouting team that could certainly use it. An interesting appointment all round.
I guess so. Still seems pretty silly to me that a team would hire a guy to watch YouTube videos at all in search of the next Mahrez. Why can’t I get that job?
Nothing to get excited about….
Nothing to get excited about short term but long term this is a very positive move for the Gunners. Proven track record to boot.
Can’t fault the timing either. Bring on Leicester! COYG!!
Seems worth a wriggle!
Who knows, maybe he can find us another Mahrez? A better player than Ozil at a barest fraction of the price.
Has he got more assists than Ozil then???
Good luck to him
Twitter status….. What universe do these football guys live in, Ben it’s LinkedIn that gets changed. 🙂
Am I wrong here or are the player ratings unusually late today?
Either way it’s good to see that working for us is an “opportunity that doesn’t come round often”. We need this season to be a success for high rated players to be convinced so as well.
+working for us is still an “opportunity…”
Excellent. Now we will have better players recommended to wenger that he won’t offer enough money for.
Welcome aboard, Ben. Now tell us everything you know about Leicester’s players and their weaknesses!
Good. Now get us the next Messi
Imagine….paid to watch football on video.
Chess moves! People saying we should sounds Mahrez, we sign the guy who signed Mahrez
Video scout means he’s on YouTube from 9-5, amiright?
Still don’t see this as a way of improving the team…
Arsenal is bigger than all this already.
Hope he can be our ex fox in the box (YouTube)
What if he is a traitor for the wiley old fox Raniery? Why move now when the foxes are doing very well and fighting for the title? very strange timing.
What balls are u talking skinny?
it used to be that the the world world looked up to Winger to unearth a new gem. this is wenger admitting he has lost a few tricks
Or adapting to a whole new world where video, stats, and other things play a part rather than just one man in the stand.
