Ramsey: what Leicester have done is remarkable

Aaron Ramsey has paid due credit to Arsenal’s next Premier League opponents, calling what Leicester City have done to be top of the table ‘remarkable’.

Claudio Ranieri’s side sit 5 points clear of the Gunners, meaning an Arsenal victory is absolutely crucial on Sunday, and the Welshman is hoping the fact we got back to winning ways against Bournemouth will set us up for the big performance we need.

“What they have done this season is quite remarkable,” he said, “but we have got to be right on it to get all three points. It was important to win at Bournemouth.

“Hopefully now we can take away this momentum and come away with a victory against Leicester as well. We are in a good position now and hopefully we can maintain this.”

“It was important to bounce back from the results we have had of late and it was important to do that with the result that Leicester got yesterday. So it was important to stay in touching distance of them and it will be an interesting game on Sunday.

“I know that I, for one, will be playing football with my feet next weekend, because that’s how you play it and ultimately that’s why it’s called football. Handball exists in football but it’s a different sport, LOL!”

Ramsey had a good game against Bournemouth, with an assist for Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Leicester’s high energy midfield on Sunday will provide a much sterner test.

It is remarkable that they haven’t been found out, surely they must have weaknesses, and that they have been so successful with such bargain buys and have had so few injuries.

Let’s hope things start to unravel a bit for them and they finish second behind us.

Bergkamp's elbows

We found them out.. Let’s do it again!

Two footed flamstamp

Every team will get found out once Alexis starts firing all cylinders again!

Stillmatic

Conditions are different.
We were away so were happy to surrender possession and counter. And they were at home so the onus was on them to attack.

This time we’re at home and 5 points behind. They’re gonna sit deep and counter, which is just how they like it.
Worse yet, their game is pressing the central midfield into losing possession, a new weakness of ours since Ramini partnership.

Really hoping Wenger comes with a legitimate game plan to counter them, and that either Coq or El-NEY-NEY…what’s my name starts.

Mpls

That’s precisely what 7am said their weakness is – having to be the possession side. He’s got numbers for it I imagine. I’d be a lot happier with Coqzorla on form if we decided to try that approach again – with any approach really – but we’ve played some fairly effective countering matches this season and last. We may not be strong in possession in central midfield right now, but we also don’t seem to be bothering with trying to force that either. Push it up and wide, bypass the area they want to press us, move quickly through those… Read more »

There’s no hidden rule that says that we have to play into our opponent’s strength at home.

ChrisGoona

I don’t like to reference these lot, but it doesn’t stop Chelski from adopting a counter-attacking approach at home!

We have to be smart and not play into their strengths. Could be a very up and down game, both teams sitting deep, using pace on the break.

I expect us to be smart, up for this, and dismantle them as we did at their place.

MannyG

We played a counter attacking game against Bayern, City and United at home.

Macharia

I figured the way to deal with Leicester city is to Play at their own game not passing the ball around looking for an opening. A fast game is the only solution like we did at the Kings Stadium. We have 5 goal scorers for them to contend with while they have only 3. So we should have 2 or 3 goals good to the Arsenal

H

Its been heartening to watch Leicester this season. They play as a lot more than the sum of their parts.

Will be even better when the whole league hates us for beating them to the title.

Michael

That would truly be the sweetest hate.

AfokoHills

Atkinson is our referee. We don’t win with him.

Bergkamp's elbows

Heh. I like what surely must have been an Arseblog exclusive signoff from Aaron

Nasris wallet

Let’s gun down those pesky foxes ???

Bergkamp's elbows

As long as we remember not to use horses, ridiculous uniforms and blood thirsty dogs, that would be illegal.

Sorry. I will shut up now.

bims lay

Well done to the lads for turning around the negative spiral that we seem to be heading into and so fair play. ….but am i the only one that thinks the players should just shut up right now. ignore so called “social media responsibilities” for a while and focus on training and preparing for the next match?..sort of like letting your feet do the talking at this stage?……..arsene thought it was a good idea last week before the bournemouth match and placed a ban on media interviews from players which i.m.o. was a good thing, given the negative press we… Read more »

Yeah less talks more points, they should put those points where their mouth is?

Rambling Pete

I do find it odd how Ramsey divides opinion among Arsenal fans. I think he’s a good player with some flaws but in general he’s somebody who is a positive in our squad. Ask yourself if you’d prefer a player like him or a conservative no-risk footballer who might look good statistically but in the end contributes very little. He reminds me of a former teammate of mine Stevie Coke (we called him this because he always drank Coca-Cola and he was a cocaine addict) who, on his day, could turn anyone inside out and do amazing things. Some days… Read more »

Lol…now we know what the monick “Rambling Pete” is all about

Brilliant.

Is Stevie Coke really Adriano?

Xxxrob

Fuck I’ve missed you

Laurie

Good to see ya back, mate. I missed ya on this blog.

JamieC

what’s all this about hand ball..?

If it’s a joke I don’t get it

DanJGooner

ramsey is quite boring in interviews, that part was added by blogs as a joke about this.

H

There’s always a Schmeichel in the way of title.

Arsenalman29

Needless to say, our next game v Leicester is a vital one, we must beat them, especially at home. To beat them by a good few goals would be nice, and knock their confidence. I honestly believe theyre our biggest competition for the title, imagaine saying that at the beginning of the season? Everyone would say are you crazy lol, fair play to Leicester they have been excellent so far this season. Obviously i want Arsenal to win the league, but if Leicester beat us they have a very good chance at taking the title, id rather them than city.… Read more »

Agreed. Flamini has done well, but it is time we unveiled our Coq!

I couldn’t resist, sorry all!

Tony g

It’s nice and all that…you know…underdogs n shit…but come on…This could be our first title in a decade! Crush them like the worms they are!

Joakim

No Aaron, as Pirlo once said. You play fotball with your head, the feet are just tools.

Joakim

Özil would be the example you could watch in training.

Bould's Eyeliner

woosh

Glasgow_Gunner

I suspect there will be more talking before that game.

Little subliminal messages” aren’t they doing well” “they are the favourites now” “wonder how they will fair in the champions league next season” all adds the pressure slowly building on Liecester and engineers them toward crumbling mentally without actually saying they will blow it publicly and giving them a quote for their notice board.

Bergkamp's elbows

Yep, was thinking the same after Wenger said that they are favourites now.

gunnerfan ov palace

Credit to leicester city even who’s last two matches gave them three goals a game v liverpool and man. C will be a ice weekend as top four playing oi coyg

COYG1886

Let’s hope smashing the Foxes doesn’t help Sp*rs to the title.

chopra_gooner

Any news on when is Cazorla coming back?

Nothing gets a gunner going like a north London chicken!!! COYG…..

I’m in the US and didn’t grow up with “foreign football” (as I’ve come to call it). I was trying to explain some of the differences in culture to my dad, who really knows nothing about it, other than hearing me mention Arsenal. I showed him a map I found on the internet of 16 professional clubs in London alone – here it’s mostly one major league team per sport only in the big cities (with a few exceptions), and many states don’t have *any* pro teams, so the “local” feel is missing. Anyway, this map had each team’s crest… Read more »

QPR also became so good and they ended up getting so much money after winning the league and the champions league. And with all that money they were able to buy Neymar and Sergio Ramos. And then I put my controller down and went to bed

Evang. Simon

I still believe this is our season….. we hold the keys that unluck their defence, we have done that before so lets smash them again in the presence our fans who missed the first smashing at their foxes’ hole. COYG

goonerpanda

I’ve always wanted to know… Can you use LOL while speaking? Honest question!

Bergkamp's elbows

No.

true.goon

In my language LOL means dick….so yeah you can use it.

Fatgooner

“Ramsey: what Leicester have done is remarkable.” True. But the amazing thing is that they’ve managed to do it without having Arsene Wenger as their manager. Surely, only the greatest boss in history could have manage to get the Foxes to the top of the table in Feburary, yet there’s no sign of Le Prof at the King Power stadium. Strange. Can’t say I’m too impressed by yesterday’s win: rubbish like Bournemouth are the sort of side which any decent top-four team should see off comfortably – home and away. But sadly, I fear our season is about to unravel… Read more »

The Danish were once known as the happiest people on earth (before they became the most unwelcoming). The explanation for this was that they had low expectations, therefore, events tend to exceed expectations and you are happy. I believe Fats here is too wounded by years of disappointment and posts negative stuff like this to manage his own expectations.

In all honestly I will be pleasantly surprised if Arsenal manage 7 or more points from their next 4 league fixtures (Leicester(H), Man U(A), Swans(H), Shit(A)). I also need to manage my expectations.

ciderman

Oh fat gooner you do make me LOL

bims lay

right on cue fats….Wenger out!, ………and the “super manager” comes in, waves a magic wand and all arsenal’s problems solved of course!

be very careful what you wish for though?….ask Man U, ask Chelsea, ask Real Madrid, even ask Newcastle, or Liverpool (before luckily finding kopp?) and i can go on and on!

Fatgooner

You’re dead right! Let’s stick with loser forever! Who wants to win the title anyway?

I suppose Wenger is your God? He can do no wrong, that’s right, isn’t it?

Bergkamp's elbows

Baffling. Always baffling. Cheer up mate..

ChrisGoona

Loser? One of the most consistent and successful managers in the topsy turvy Premier League era. Surely even a depressed fan of Wenger’s “past” struggles is wise enough to judge the team and Arsene himself on their latest endeavors…

Arigoon

I just read your comment in Mourinho’s voice.

Ali

Hello, Usmanov.

Bergkamp's elbows

Calling him/her ‘fats’ conjures up an image of a 1920s New York gangster.. Scheming their way to a monopoly of Arsenal doom.

Alexstratz

Bla bla fucking bla. All this talk about magnificent Leicester, while Arsenal will absolutely, without any doubt, finish below Spurs because the future is so obviously predictable. Yeah whatever. Let them talk, let them dismiss us, let Leicester and Spurs enjoy the spotlight. Forget the press, forget the flavor of the month, forget the title pressure. Let’s go back to what’s essential: one match at a time. Remember that year we were fighting for top 4 while hovering in 10th, below Tottenham? Make it through winter in a good position, and the spring version of an unleashed Arsenal will all… Read more »

All I know is that we are celebrating St Totteringham this year. It’s a tradition, nothing to do about it.

santori

For all those who keep saying we need to spend, Leicester ‘s entire squad cost 17m. NO “world Class” names on the roster either.

What’s the excuse?

ChrisGoona

True, true…

Leicester are showing up the pundits and media, but it ain’t no miracle – it is football.

Apparently if you don’t have a Diego Costa type striker you can’t win the league they say… Or spending 30m on a DM… Or playing at least 5 big tall and strong players in your side…

Football is about which team functions the best. There ain’t no set way or style. The fact that Leicester is doing so well is good for the sport.

I still demand for us to do them over come Sunday!

Trez

For one, they have a coach who knows how to get the best out of his players unlike a certain someone.
They also have a better striker than we do….Vardy isn’t the top scorer in the league for no reason.
They have Kante, while we’re struggling with flamini.
Oh and they plugged in the holes in their team unlike a certain someone who gambled on his players not getting injured and crocks like arteta.

Chuqu

i don’t know why but i just have this positive feeling that we are going to crush Leicester & United.
