PSG’s manager says that he’s expecting a tough game against Arsenal tomorrow night, and says his players will have to adapt to a kind of football they’re not used to in Ligue 1.
The runaway French champions will find life a little tougher against the Gunners, something Unai Emery is warning of ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League opener.
“I expect a tough game and a different one to our last game because Arsenal have a different formation and different brand of football,” he said.
“All the players will need to adapt. I expect a great game and a real challenge. I hope we have a great match and that things go well for us against a top side. Arsenal will play to their strengths. They attack well, but they also defend well.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Marco Verratti says the team are ready to up their game as they face a ‘big club’, promising to try even harder.
“We know how to cause them problems,” said the Italian. “Arsenal are a big club. They’re very used to playing at this level. They’re always in the Champions League. They’re a good team with very skilful players, but we’ll prepare as well as we can. We know how to cause them problems. We know what they can do. And facing them makes things easier as well – when you play top clubs, you try even harder.
“I am glad to be playing them right at the start. I always want to play as soon as possible after I haven’t won a game. That’s why this is a very big match. We have to show that we’re a top club too.
“I’m delighted to be playing them tomorrow. We want to play this sort of fixture, in front of our own fans.”
I smell a bunch if scaredy cats 😉
Pretty sure when you play at this level, you’re scared of no one and you believe that you can beat anyone…
… Except the defenders who are told they have to mark Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, etc. They probably get a little bit scared (except Koscielny of course ?)
Damn straight. They fall straight into the BOSS’ pocket!
Sanchez Giroud iwobi should start and Walcott Perez and OX benched.. but I have a feeling Walcott will be preferred to iwobi for the threat of his pace. In midfield obviously ozil cazorla definitely keep their places. I’ll go with coq. But xhaka may start.
What midfield combination would you like tomorrow? Like for Santi-Coq, dislike for Santi-Xhaka.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he rotated both centre midfielders: Elneny – Xhaka
In fact other than the back 4 and Cech I think the only player who will keep his place will be Ozil
We have depth!!! Yi haaa!
Sanchez?
Sanchez didn’t start against Watford
Sorry I meant Southampton
3 Nil to the Arsenal.up the arse
luv to see Cazorla Xhaka partnership in midfield with ozil, Sanchez and Iwobi in front
Didn’t they dump Chelsea out in consecutive seasons?
Why are they making it sound like they’re the underdogs when they’re playing at home? – And they have half of Qatar’s GDP invested into their squad.
Yeah, nobody is fooled. They do have a pretty good home record in the CL. Arsenal need a good game plan for tomorrow.
They’ve had a bad start to the season (even worse than ours), they lost Zlatan, and Cavani has been making Giroud look like Suarez recently. That probably explains the defensiveness.
Watch as Cavani suddenly becomes Messi and Trapp suddenly becomes Neuer against us. #JustArsenalThings
I hope we don’t take them too lightly; however, slow start to season, Luiz/Ibra gone, and half their defence are injured…
It’s a great time to play them, but we usually make the CL groups stages hard for ourselves so who knows 🙂
this has to be some kind of trick to get our players to relax and play casually. Don’t fall for it guys!!
Why would they need a trick, we manage to do that just fine on our own most weeks! But there is something odd about the comments for sure.
Honestly these press conferences are so boring with always the same blablabla: they are strong, but we are too, we know how to take them and we know what they can do and blablabla…
Well said!
“…Arsenal will play to their strengths. They attack well, but they also defend well…”
LOL 🙂 That’s Funny!
I don’t think there’s any strategy or deception in these comments. What are they supposed to say: “Yeah, we ought to win easily?” They say what every professional would say: “Arsenal are good, but we are too. Should be a tough game and we’re looking forward to it.”
Be nice if they did mouth off like that – Wenger’s team talk would be nailing those comments to the tactics board in the dressing room.
Wenger: “Hey Per..”
Mertasacker: “Yes Boss”
Wenger: “£500 fine and a wedgey to anyone who doesn’t read that 5 minutes before kick off”
Can you imagine Mertasacker giving you a wedgey… he’d lift you 6ft in their air.
Nobody wants that.
What’s a wedgie? Is it like a wet Willie?
Did Psg talk on behalf of Hull City whom we face this weekend?
To be fair, we do have a good away record. And with a squad like ours, I could careless if zlatan and David luiz were to still be in their squad. Looking forward to the match!
I expect we have be resting a number of players for this match.
So likely to see IMO Giroud start. Perez still needs a bit of time to get on the same wavelength but may also come in later when the game is more stretched and benefit from space.
Also Alexis naturally, Ozil. The other flank is up for grabs. Could be Iwobi as the wild card.
In midfield base, likely the indispensable Santi and prob Granit.
Elneny may also feature at some point to keep up the energy levels.
Back four remains the same and keeper.
Would have loved to see emery at arsenal 3x euro cop winner which is a tougher comp than the cl.
Maybe one day
All at the age of 44,
Would love to know why this was downvoted.
Haha Unai Emery
I see what you did there… Up vote from me
Hey Seaman, what managers would you like to see at the helm once Arsene retires? All the top ones are taken, Eddie Howe is too young, Bielsa is a nut, so …?
…”euro cup, which is a tougher competition than the CL”? On which planet, Vincent/Jamie? Please!
Therr are more matches than the champ league and towards the later stages there are heavyweights like bvb and sevilla who are not pushovers in their respective league.
So yes the teams are less tough but its more physically draining especially for epl teams.
Please do some research
Id love to see a 4 3 3 with xhaka cazorla and coq but the issue would be leaving Ozil out so that would be an issue.
Still that would be a very formidable midfield
