Coquelin reveals The Theory of Giroud

Francis Coquelin, midfield destroyer, ankle-biter, science guy. The Frenchman has studied long and hard in the laboratory of football and revealed a new theory that is set to take Arsenal by storm.

His research and findings were backed up on Saturday when Olivier Giroud, introduced in the 73rd minute, thumped home a late equaliser for the Gunners.

Speaking after the game, Coquelin said, “He’s not been starting a lot recently but there’s this theory that every time he comes on he manages to score.

“He did that again and his headers are unbelievable. It’s probably the only chance he had and he put it away. He showed how good he is.

“As a keep proponent of theoretical interpolarated abstraction physics, it’s great for me personally that Oli showed them what a force of nature he is.”

Coquelin had praise for all the substitutes, saying, “The players who came on were superb. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on at right back and gave a great ball to Olivier Giroud who was also a substitute, and he scored a massive goal.

“It showed the whole team is really focused on what we are doing. In the second half the goal hit us hard. Still, we had the resources to get back in the game and get a point.”

In a way, subs are supposed to do this: giving a new freshness to the team. They did it. Good.

Dawn

It was the first shot on target tho! Theo Mesut and Sanchez need to give this week’s wages to Children in Need!

Avneet

Criticism is not a bad thing. Both Ozil and Sanchex needs to start delivering “consistently” in BIG games. At the moment they “disappear” more consistently in these kind of games.

Bould's Eyeliner

That’s so inherently false I don’t even know what to say. What have you been watching this past season and a half? Ozil and Sanchez were brought in to be, and have been the crux of our team. Half the time we’re concerned we’re overplaying Sanchez, because he’s directly tied to a lot of our great results, as is Ozil. We just talked about how it was great Ozil had 2 weeks off last week, because we feared he would be overplayed. Stop forgetting recent events and wish-washing between a black and white world. Great players can have average games,… Read more »

A great result for arsene wenger and arsenal fans, however our star players such as Ozil, sanchez Ramsey did not step up to the plate and this happens frequently in big matches.

The midfield was unbalanced. Ramsay on the left narrowed our midfield and stole room from Ozil to operate in. He was also poor on the ball and looked out of match practice. He tripped over the ball several times yesterday and didn’t contribute going forward or backward. Ramsay is a bit too Steven Gerrard for me. He is a highlights reel, a roy of the rovers that provides some memorable flashes of awesome that blind us to his 90% dross. either play him in centre mid or stick him on the bench. He is behind Iwobi, Sanchez and walcott on… Read more »

I can’t agree with you any less. If AW can’t find space for AR then selling instead of killing the team with a player playing out of position. The cautious approach to the game gave too much respect to Manutd team that was obviously under performing. Iwobi and Xhaka starting the game could have given us solid performance and three points. AW needs to remove his mental block when playing JM and ManUtd

Blancman

Great seeing arsenal in this position again where we have a selection on the bench to change our style of play. Ix and Giroud are not so adapted to our ticky ticky takky takky footloose play.

Dawn

Are you serious? Have you ever seen Wilshere’s goal of the season against Norwich, goals by Rosicky, Rambo and Mesut all beautifully set up by Giroud with ticky tacky free flowing football. That’s just off the top of my head!

Le Jim

There are also the chipped 1-2’s to Podolski vs Montpellier and Gibbs vs Swansea that come to mind

Jo

You seem to forget Giroud had the second most assist and top scorer last season! Ox is a runner of the ball so he is less ticky tacky though.

Mpls

Giroud is the absolute master of the tiki taka wall pass. Ping it at him and he finds a way to drop it right in the runner’s path. I don’t think there’s anyone better at it in the EPL, maybe all of europe. Ozil has the touch and vision, of course, but he’s not in the box manhandling two CB’s much.

Einstein's Relative

Great that we scored in Fergie time for a change.

FrankTheTank

Giroud looks better coming off the bench than when he starts every game. Average starter but a super sub.

Dawn

Average? You clearly only watch YouTube clips of Best Bergkamp and Pele!

Jo

What is evident is when Giroud is supplied good balls he finishes. When the supply is poor then less so as he definitely take up good positions. And that is for both Arsenal and France.

Bould's Eyeliner

So basically you’re saying if you give a striker better assist balls, then he will score more often. Now as pedantic and sarcastic that statement might seem, we definitely know there exists strikers that do not demonstrate such a logical correlation between assisting and scoring (Gervinho’s Arsenal years, Torres’ Chelsea years were especially delicious).

It is marvelous, isn’t it–Giroud literally is Mr. Consistently Above Average, and what a weapon that consistency is. I bet if you could somehow make a graph describing the above, I bet the slope would be Giroud’s gallic hawk of a nose.

Cliff Bastin

Speaking of Giroud, Bobby Pires posted a picture of himself, Giroud, David Beckham and Santi Cazorla in tuxedos at some charity event and my goodness you have to feel a bit bad for Santi because he is not winning that particular competition.

Double98

bet he’s a two footed demon in the sack…
if that’s what the girls like…

Mpls

But that smile and charm gets the job done, I’m sure.

wilson mughogho

I will be happy to see Giround and show his intellegence as a footballer why he seems to be frastrated on game time but all the same he is doing the good job

Eddie

Giroud should be playing. I am totally not convinced by Wengers’s Sanchez experiment. Just because he has scored in a few games shouldn’t have people fooled. He always was scoring, even from the wing. He isn’t a striker and he is not playing like one. When he is there the team has no options. He goes in looking for the ball, he dribbles around and runs into dead ends; the team cant put in crosses and we are very easy to defend against.

Benkamp

I’m jumping on Eddie’s wagon. His wagon knows where it is going. I’d prefer to see Perez and giroud fighting for that spot. Problem is I Guess that if he plays Sanchez on he left little iwobi doesn’t get a game. If he plays Ramsey on the left it makes iwobi look excellent when he comes back in. Try xhaka and Ramsey in the middle with giroud up top ozil behind. Alexis left. Right? Walcott has dipped a touch but has external shit going on. Ox is teetering on the edge of consistent form. Can iwobi play there? Not while… Read more »

Mpls

Give Walcott a short family break, play Alexis on the Right. He’s proven to be quite good there and will keep any opposition left back pinned back to help out Jenks. Iwobi on the left. Done.

Ideally we give Alexis a break, but good luck selling that idea to him.

Runnings

Very tactical move by Wenger to produce a goal by playing Ox at right back ….we should give praise where it due,…timing was so applicable…..

Donmorex

Please start Giroud I think He is the best striker in arsenal now , sanchez can score from the wing.
