Theo Walcott has revealed he’ll win a new coffee machine from his wife Mel if he can find the back of the net again before Christmas.
The England international netted his ninth goal of the campaign during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday and has six more opportunities to hit the ten goal target set by his wife if he’s to get a special festive treat from Saint Nick.
Speaking at the end of a week that also saw him become a father for the second time, Walcott shed light on the challenge posed to him and highlighted his desire to maintain the momentum he’s built up this season.
“She said ‘if you get ten goals before Christmas I’ll buy you this coffee machine’,” he told the Telegraph.
“So I can’t wait for that and hopefully it will happen. Coming from the wing as well, I’m obviously delighted with my goals so far.
“I sat down with the manager at the start of the season and said where I want to play so now I don’t have to think about anything else. And with that experience in the central position, if I find myself there hopefully I can tuck away the goals, which I have.
“I’m still working hard in training, in the gym and on the mental side of it. And making sure I have to time at home as well. Everything seems to be clicking.”
You might say it’s ‘percolate than never’ when it comes to Walcott’s form.
Wahey!
He has come into form Latte. He is forging a good partnership with our South Americano Alexis.
This made me laugh in disbelief. One, if he doesn’t hit 10 goals, I’m pretty sure he will just buy one. Two, if he does score 10goals, she will buy him one, with HIS money. Thirdly, he earns enough to hire a full time Barrista in his house and make his coffee whilst also giving back by paying him more than they earn in Costa and the like. Made me chuckle.
it’s the bet that counts. it’s cute.
PS. maybe she earns money herself?
As CJ says, she might earn the money herself and the bet is kinda cute.
Do you not have things, little routines and jokes, with your own partner, a bit of inter-relationship ‘banter’ (I normally loathe that word but it probably fits here)?
I’m loving the fact that this insanely rich footballer has a deal to get a coffee maker from his wife, instead of an endangered animal or fourteen custom made Breitling watches.
I’m pretty sure those are the prizes should he hit the 20 and 30 goal targets. I’ve heard Mel is feeling pretty confident she won’t have to get the chequebook out…
If Theo were to hit 30 I’d personally go to Siberia and dig him up a wolly mammoth.
Get your shovel out!
I wonder about the same reading the article. Hope it’s not the endangered animal for any target.
Its great his wife is doing her bit to motivate him.
I think you underestimate the price of top of the range coffee machines..
Maybe he’s getting a Elektra Belle Epoque? (try googling it!)
I’m loving the fact that despite earning £100,000 a week he’d still wait to get a coffee maker for christmas rather than just buying one for every room in the house whenever he wants and a whole chain of coffee shops around London just for himself
Playing the devil’s advocate, but as a winger in an attacking team such as Arsenal, one goal from six games is quite dry if u ask me.
I couldn’t believe this comment until I saw who it was from.
Quite sure nobody asked you..
I’ll buy Mr. Walcott 10 bags of coffee for that machine if he bags the winner against Man City next month
Had to check the link to see if this was a real article and not just a build up to some delightful pun
Jury is still out.
Theo is having a much stronger all round season so far . Playing on the wing he still must improve his 1vs1 play & final ball delivery. Surely he should be aiming for at least 10 assists… Double figures for both goals & assists with the additional defensive and off ball pressing will cement a very much improved Theo Walcott .
Hope she removes the beans before letting him use it.
I like Theo and I’m happy that he’s getting a few more goals this season. But let’s consider what our impression of him would have been if he didn’t score that goal against Bournemouth. He was almost totally absent from an attacking point. As a winger he hasn’t put in enough crosses, or made dangerous cut-in’s from the wings or add a different dimension of creativity to his game. He really needs to improve on this, get in more assist, be more decisive in his passing and improve his overall play. Adding this to his goal scoring abilities this season… Read more »
For pete’s sake why do people like overly criticizing these players, I bet you if you were given the chance, you can’t kick a ball to save world peace. Support the team through thick and thin. Barcelona of all teams were taken apart this weekend and the manager blamed it on a champions league hangover, and here you are thinking our players are bots and should always come through. ahhhhh
First, if Theo is completely absent every game and yet scores a goal, we should be very happy. Second, he has not been absent: he makes good runs to open space for others, he combines well with Bellerin and yesterday (briefly) with Debouchy; his pace and willingness force defenders to worry about a counter. Yes, he has made some poor crosses–but also some very good ones. Yes, his first touch is often below the standard it should be, and I don’t think that will ever change. He is not Cruyff (or Santi or Ozil)–but we can win the league with… Read more »
That is a good woman.
May happiness always reign in your home, Theo!
more scoring on the pitch please
Wonder how he works hard on the mental side..
He focuses intently on a point in the middle distance for hours and hours
The rocking baby celebration, low hanging fruit for the photoshopper. Possibilities near endless
guess the way one cradles a baby has changed quite a bit since ’94!
Theo’s got it down to a T though.
Theo has been like an espresso train this season and has em-barrista defender or two to help us grind out the results. He’s really earning the star-bucks this term and would Costa lot more on the transfer market now than he would have in the summer.
