Carl Jenkinson linked with Aston Villa loan

According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are interested in signing Carl Jenkinson on loan when the January transfer window opens.

The 24 year old has struggled to find his best form since returning from injury, with Arsene Wenger admitting the player is suffering from a loss of confidence.

It’s a move that makes sense on a number of levels. Now that Hector Bellerin is back, Jenkinson’s chances of playing are limited, and getting some regular football under his belt would be a good thing.

Also, Aston Villa currently have Alan Hutton at right-back.

Yes.

Alan Hutton.

So, signing Jenkinson, or Bandage-head Bob who lives in a shack and who always has a bandage on his head but nobody knows why, would be an improvement on that situation.

The transfer window opens in around 20 days, by the way. Draxler? Stop it.

It was a good chance for Jenkinson to have staked his claim to the RB position.

Hope that loan move is after one of Mustafi or Debuchy is back from injury.

Pedant

A loan is a good idea if we aren’t left short by injuries.

Edu's Braces

With our injury record i cannot see the benefit of this loan. Good for Carl sure but we could easily need him for a game or 2 so why do it? He has been a lot better than some of our internal trolls suggest.

ArthriticKnee

He’s been poor and really needs to play regularly to build up some confidence after such a long injury. Gabriel was good and Debuchy is coming back in January, plus we have Maitland Niles and Holding in case of emergency.

agree. the people talking smack about him are the same ones who went from “campbell is terrible, just not arsenal quality” to “how can you loan out campbell, he’s an important contributor” and also the same ones who said le coq would never make it at arsenal.

Godfrey Twatschloch

How do you know that?

cazorla's smile

not really.. I actually love that Arsene gives the kids a chance.. but Jenkinson does not have the technique to make it at Arsenal, I’m afraid. Granted that his confidence is shit, and he always gives it his all, but other than a useful backup, I don’t think anyone sees him as someone who can make a huge difference. I’m more than open to being wrong too! hows that for smack?

Sg_gooner

Per is returning to give cover in cb while Gabriel can give cover in rb. I think this is a good move.

nice. lovely old jenko. a solid half season would do him the world of good. if rejuvenated he would be a v decent back up right back.

The Blerch

I know he’s not been great but there needs to be some perspective here- he’s a different player when he’s got a run under his belt and his confidence is up. Although he’s not as good as Bellerin, he could be the best reserve right back in the league

Monkey nuts

Sell him would make more sense

Abdul

No one would buy him on current form

Aubrey Graham

He’s not good enough for arsenal and never will be I’d keep him until the end of the season loaning him out is of no benefit to us as what we would save on wages for him is not a lot so it’s best that he stays purely just to be an extra body if we desperately need cover

Arigoon

That’s cold, ice cold, boy
you ain’t have to do him like that

ub

there’s no way we will go after draxler. we have enough players up top anyway who are playing well at the moment and arsene won’t want to disrupt that midway through the season

Beowulf

And how did the Draxler enter this conversation?

Rage

Keep him. Being part of a title winning team can only do his confidence wonders!

Make mine a Swiss miss

I like Alan Hutton, he’s helped us several times over the years.
Being dropped to help Jenks get some games under his belt might help us again.
We’ve a lot of possible cover at RB so makes sense to me.
