Championship trio chase Akpom

Cardiff City, Fulham and Brentford are all interested in signing Chuba Akpom on loan for the rest of the season, according to The Times.

After watching youngster impress in pre-season and with his attacking options a little light at the time, Arsene Wenger opted against loaning out the England under-21 international in August.

The young striker subsequently started and played well in the 4-0 EFL Cup win over Nottingham Forest but then picked up a back injury that kept him sidelined until an appearance for Steve Gatting’s under-23s last week.

Given the form of Olivier Giroud and Lucas Perez and with Danny Welbeck now back in contention, it certainly makes sense for Akpom to go and play elsewhere in the second half of the season. Having spent last term on loan with Hull in the Championship he knows what to expect if he does indeed take a step down.

The Little Mozart

After such an unfortunate injury it makes sense for Chubs to spend the second half of the season somewhere else. Playing time is vital at this stage of his development.

I love this guy and would love to see him succeed at Arsenal. He has all the right ingredients to be a complete forward. Here’s for hoping he has a successful injury free rest of the season so he can impress at pre season, and who knows from there.

Pedant

Probably 5th in line for centre forward (after Alexis, Giroud, Welbeck and Perez), needs to get playing elsewhere to have a chance to come back. Good luck to him.

Yaya's Dad

What about Sanogo?

Greaves

Wenger mentioned something about he having an actual serious medical condition and he was allegedly given the season off to get over the issue if i am not mistaken.

Aussiegoonbag

Being shit is not an injury

Benkamp

No…. its a serious medical condition though

Benkamp

For a footballer that is. Unless you play for spurs. Then its an absolute necessity.

Wenger's Philosophy Teacher

Criticizing a healthy player’s form is one thing – and even then I don’t personally care for generalizations like “he’s shit” when you have a young player who has always put in effort even if the productivity was lacking (his cameo during the FA Cup Final against Hull comes to mind) – but why would you bother being critical of a player who is not even involved with the team at the time? It is my sincere hope that he comes back healthy and fit next season so that Wenger can legitimately determine if he should remain on the squad… Read more »

Sanogo? That’s a no go.

Mr November

I had high hopes for Akpom but as time goes by I fear that he’ll end up on a similar route to Afobe. Obviously there’s no need to write him off by any means but he definitely needs a loan move and he has to score consistently there. He did okay at Hull but didn’t perform well enough to keep his place. Perhaps a club with less competition would suit him better.

Diarra

I don’t think ending up on a similar route as Afobe would be bad for him in any ways. He plays for a midtable PL club and has probably the best years ahead of him. Of course you hope that these youngsters make the grade here but that is extremely hard nowadays.

Coming on in the last 10 minutes of Bournemouth’s games is not what his talent promised. Akpom has all the ingredients to be a top top striker. I just fear these half season loan spells or too short for him to get settled and get some sort of decent form going. Let’s hope it works out for him this time so he can prove himself in preseason next season.

clins

i think as a centre forward he is not at the level arsenal want him to be. every time he was played as a striker he was strugling and he was not that good at hull city too during loan .

but i think he is much better winger . can depute for walcot’s right wing. then again we have so many players capable of that like ox , perez etc

Make mine a Swiss miss

i think we’re mostly trying to forget about Sanogo. Still, I heard he’s sick so at least it’s get well soon to him.
For Chuba, what about back to Hull? He’s got to be better than their current forwards.

To Hull And Back

They’re on the verge of announcing Niasse on loan from Everton for the rest of the season, then they’ve got Mbokani (granted away at african nations) and the abysmal Diomande, so i doubt he would get sufficient game time there. He struggled to get in the starting line when they were in the Championship. I think Hull after announcing the signing Niasse will fill out there squad in other area’s as they are threadbare.

Andy Mack

Hull are a ‘nailed on’ relegation team.
Not great for a youngsters confidence to go there.

To Hull And Back

Especially when you have the likes of Huddlestone, Livermore, Dawson and Mason there………

Theo's Wall-cot

Wouldn’t mind seeing him get a run out in the 4th round of the FA cup but that’ll be a bit close to the end of the transfer window. He needs to do well wherever he ends up or he’ll surely be on his way out.

Andy Mack

Too many players need game-time for Chuba to be a starter in that game (assuming we don’t suddenly get Alexis, HFB, Danny and Lucas injured).

Overmars

He should go to Cardiff to play with the CHAMAKH ATTACK!

HigiHaga

Though he’s gotten very little chances, he hasn’t lived up to the high hopes unfortunately. He would need to prove himself elsewhere to have any meaningful chance at arsenal

Jim wall

Hard these days for youngsters to make the grade they really has to be exceptional at 18 like bellerin or cole if like a lot of players dont relly come good till 22 or 23 it can be too late by then they would have been loaned out 3 or 4 times just never settling they lose their cofindence …

chippy's chip

Hopefully to come back and be good enough to start and score hatfulls of goals season after season and win us loads of trophys and become a gooner legend….
