Ramsey desperate to stay fit in 2017

Aaron Ramsey admits he’s been left very frustrated by another injury hit season.

Since injuring his hamstring on the opening day of the season, the Welshman has made only one Premier League start this campaign. The persistent muscular problem has since been compounded by a niggly toe injury which has nipped in the bud the momentum built-up by the 26-year-old during his eye-catching performances at EURO 2016.

Speaking to Arsenal Player about his ambitions for 2017, Ramsey played up the importance of trying to stay fit.

“Hopefully now I can get some more minutes under my belt and next I want to build it up and stay fit,” he said.

“It’s obviously been a very frustrating season for me so far, especially coming off a very good Euros with Wales.

“I wanted to kick on and get going this season, but it’s been a bit stop-start again. It’s something that I am trying to work on and trying to find out what’s right for me, and hopefully that will be the case from now on and I can stay fit.

Ramsey also touched on why being sidelined is difficult from both a mental and physical perspective.

“It’s a combination of a few difficult things [when you’re out of the team],” he noted.

“The mental side is certainly part of it, you want to get consistency in your game and feel comfortable, but as soon as you are in and out of the team you have to keep doing the same routines and get back to full fitness each time, so it takes a while.

“You have to get your fitness up in training, work your way back in, so it is frustrating but now I’m just looking forwards and staying fit.”

In the absence of midfield trio Mohamed Elneny (African Cup of Nations), Santi Cazorla (injury) and Jack Wilshere (loan), Ramsey will be looking to secure more regular action in January.

The question, as always, is where will Wenger utilise the Welshman. Alex Iwobi has thrown his hat into the ring as a bona fide ‘Number 10’ back up to Mesut Ozil, so it looks as though Rambo may have to play deeper or wider than he’d prefer.

What’s a good place to watch the game tonight in Belfast?

At home if you have Sky. If not, then a pub I suppose?

Might have to switch to Bournemouth then. There is something Arsenal are doing incorrectly. Pitch, Physio, recovery, training methods. Maybe Tim’s theory about training during the same time of the day as the match will be played…….no, that doesnt make sense.

What’s the update on Welbeck

santori

So strange someone gave you a thumbs down for a question. He’s suppose to be looking good in training so no doubt we may see him introduced cautiously probably for limited time against Preston. We have great assets out wide now with Alexis, Ox, Walcott (still not back but should be soon), Lucas and Welbeck (not to mention the Jeff) Also up top we have either Alexis or Giroud but Welbeck may also get the nod (not to mention Lucas) Wenger is one of the best building a squad and buying from market. Whether he can get the best out… Read more »

Inching closer to full fitness but since he’s been out for so long they are being cautious and not rushing him.

Does anyone here have any medical or physiological insights on whether it is realistic to expect him to “stay fit” given his unfortunate history of repeated hamstring strains. I don’t know the science but I have heard people say that the muscle becomes increasingly compromised and prone to further injury due to build up of scar tissue. Is there really hope for Aaron?

HIs instinct is to attack. He got disassociated with Flamini when he pushed forward in search of goals . Ironically our goals dried up last season when our better assets started to come back. But when he had to work next to the aging Flamini, the pair did well over a long spell without many of the better players particularly against City and Olympiakos. Coquelin returned and we leaked 13 goals in 7 games with him and Ramsey holding. If Ramsey plays further forward in the 10 role, he can get goals for us. Trouble of course is the incumbent… Read more »

If it helps, Aaron, my sister always says you’re fit.
