Arsenal announce squad for the Emirates Cup

Arsenal have announced the squad for this weekend’s Emirates Cup. The Gunners face Benfica and Sevilla on Saturday and Sunday and Arsene Wenger has selected the following players.

Goalkeepers

Petr Cech, David Ospina, Emi Martinez

Defenders

Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Rob Holding, Nacho Monreal, Calum Chambers, Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac, Cohen Bramall

Midfielders

Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, Granit Xhaka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock

Forwards

Alexandre Lacazette, Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck, Reiss Nelson

There’s no place in the squad for Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson or Lucas Perez Jeff Reine-Adelaide, all of whom were involved in a friendly against Boreham Wood last night and are expected to leave the club this summer.

Jack Wilshere is not included either, we assume because of fitness issues as he’s just returned to first team training, while there’s no place for Jeff Reine-Adelaide either.

Arsenal play Benfica on Saturday and Sevilla on Sunday with both games kicking off at 16.20

Cue ‘Where’s Lemar??’ tweets…

Think

I don’t think Monaco wants to sell… They just turned down 50m… I think they are comfortable with 170m made from sales of players already…

Stuart_Ten

I wasn’t really trying to start that conversation..
But, if we made the right offer they would give in..(I hope).

ShadyGunner

Negotiations are no piece of cake!
if they say we want 60 mil,and we are ready to pay 60 instantly, they may push it up to 70,so sometimes u have to drive a hard bargain IMO

Kate

Is Barnaby Stingwing still on holiday?

Sholly bee

Is the Jeff leaving????

kveb

Seems to me that Wenger knows this is his last chance and is (finally) being more ruthless. Expect to see a full-strength team this weekend in prep for Chelsea.

Heavenly Chapecoense

Didn’t Jeff impress when he arrived and was never disappointing ? Being a manager is tough. You have to let go players you rate.

clins

i think jeff is too inconsistent . he’s definitely talented , but he needs to show more to get into the first team . there are more consistent performers than jeff who deserves a shot in the first team in our academy team than him

bendtnerschristmastree

Reiss Nelson is miles ahead of Jeff already

Heavenly Chapecoense

Jeff was already in fiirst team .

Goontang

Jeff just needs a loan out to a championship or have a relegation battle in the premier league. Seems the logical next step to continue his development. Shouldnt write him off yet, hes barely played.

Rooks

Jve only seen an heard good things from him.

Just like Perez, you can’t be consistent if you’re not played regularly.

Reality check

Jeff, joining the very long list of nearly theres.. JET, Chuks, afobe etc etc..

line

we need to get Seri _ Lemar and top class central defender

arsepedant

Please stop posting the same cut&paste blather on every article under different user names each time. You’ve even got the same typo and grammatical mistake in every copy.

Euginio

Shame about the Jeff

Ben Rivers

Jeff has been injured, so hes probably not fit. I doubt he will be going yet.

King 14enry

Seems extremely early in his career to be giving up on the Jeff, especially when you think we’ve stuck by someone like Lord Bendtner for so long…

Connoisseur

Would be nice to insert a buyout clause in the Jeff’s contract, have him pull a Pogba and get him back at a reasonable fee as a present to Wenger’s successor 🙂
Ah, those delusions of grandeur!

Alex

or Wilshere. Or Oxlade-Chamberlain. Or Walcott. Or Ramsey… and Jeff is not British.

Awesomesauce25

Did I read that correctly? The Jeff is expected to leave? Do we mean by way of loan? I hadn’t seen anything on him being sold.

This is the sound of my voice

I was about to type the same sentiment. I searched and found a few dodgy rumors but I’ve seen nothing reliable indicating that JRA was expected to leave. My understanding has always been that Wenger thinks he’s an exception talent.

Faisal Narrage

Nope, been talk for weeks now that Arsenal are looking to sell. Some say attitude problems, but this has not been confirmed at all, and I haven’t heard from it (though I expect arseblog to throw it out there like they did with Gnabry and Silva) Honestly, there’s no point in ever getting excited about your new anymore. We’ve gone from “The Jeff” to being almost sold. Its sad, as he played as a CM yesterday and I think he has all the ingredients to be a box to box in the mould of Diaby/Vieira (and I think the ideal… Read more »

Vonnie

Jon Toral did brilliantly on his loan spells but doesn’t get a look in. I’m really disappointed that he isn’t in this squad as he’s a young player I really rate but has never been given a chance. I hoped that after putting in another excellent performance yesterday he’d be considered, but no.

kveb

Where you there yesterday Faisal?
Interested to hear any other reports.

Robert Heaney

The Jeff is leaving? First I heard that.

Moe

Midfield is suffering, curious to know what are Wenger’s plans

santori

Engine room needs more power.

420Goonerblayzeit

both games at 420? Well I know what I’ll be doing during the game!

Don

Where’s krystian bielik? Thought he’d be involved after being part of pre-season team.

yen

Heard he got injured yesterday against Boreham Wood. Minor injury.

LyonSL

Before pre-season tour he said, that he is going on loan to Norwich.

Kiran

No Perez either, he’s a gonner.

line

‘we need to get Seri _ Lemar and top class defender

arsepedant

Seriously, mate, get lost!

line

You’re right with yourself

Zeus99xx

The Jeff leaving? Say it ain’t so!

GUNNERS

why is Theo Walcott still included in the squad? I prefer Lucas Perez to be there.

Stuart_Ten

In the nicest way – Get over it, pal.

My Wig smells cheesy

Leave Theo alone. Until we have 2 new faces that can contribute 19 goals in a season then I think it’s absolutely bonkers for so much hate against a guy who has been part of the arsenal for so long

santori

To be fair to Theo, if he hits a streak, he can make a massive diff.

Gaz

Can we get some clarity on the Reine-Adelaide bit? Is he really expected to leave or just lacking fitness?

Arsene49

He’s playing?

Ryan

No sanchez do we think it because of the reception he may get?

Andy Mack

It’s because he doesn’t return to training until sunday.

Gooner4722

What happened to Toral? Had a brilliant spell at Birmingham last season, was their player of the season if I remember correctly, why isn’t he being given a chance to prove his worth?
Moreover, it’s his last year of contract too I reckon, would expect someone in that position to be given a chance to prove why the club should extend his contract…

allezkev

Wasn’t Toral at Glasgow Rangers last season?

Rob2good

I really hope that Sanchez’s ‘sickness’ doesn’t spread around the squad…. Looks like the kind of sickness I used to get on a Monday morning on a school day

santori

Buehler? Buehler?

lucky-uriah

we are wasting our resources on the wrong players, sell wallnut, jack, elneny and bring in mahrez and a solid midfielder plus get lemar if sanchez leaves…we are practically going into a new season relying on ozil who disappears into thin air in big matches

Mark

Why has the Jeff not been involved yet, is he still injured?

santori

…relax, err…you got nothing to worry about, we’re professionals.

Professional what?

Luke1998

Where is alexis

It Is What It Is

Oh my guard…Alexis back in training on Sunday…may be ready for community shield SQUAD, or not.

His fitness, and thinness/requirements of the squad are main determinants.

santori

This looks close to starting team for the season then. No surprises. Jack, Debuchy, GIbbs, Jenko, Campbell, Perez all likely to be sold if buyer found or on loan if not. Some youth players in the mix in place of potential regulars. Mustafi still recovering so Bramall included. Up top, Nelson gets a run out with Alexis still up in the air. If Alexis leaves, we need to bring someone in who IMO can repliacte his creativity and ‘unpredictability’. Not convinced by Lemar as a sub for Alexis (even with Lacazette as part of the equation) In midfield Maitland Niles… Read more »

santori

Jack – We are already partially banking on Santi so it seems foolish to also a historically injury prone player into the mix in midfield.

Young players another risk to rely on. We need someone ready to go (23/24) and already on way to his peak years.

It Is What It Is

Tone: caring, passive. Just an a-hole’s thoughts.

You are, very much, entitled to your opinions, just feel you are barking up the wrong tree….in fact you may be the wrong breed or species.

You’d do better standing on Arsene’s road with a sign/banner. I’d even accompany you. Not a beef ting, just find incessant repetition painful.

Carry on, I fully expect it.

Kevin parlour

Well with less than a week to go for the great season to start I think that what we got is our team to win the premiership with and to be honest I myself ain’t to disappointed arsen has spent wisely yet again. And remember if it wasn’t for arsen we wouldn’t have our new stadium our wealth in the club . So all you doubters watch on and be prepared to eat humble pie .
