Lacazette hopeful he has the Wright stuff

New boy Alexandre Lacazette says he’s well aware of the goalscoring feats carried out by club legend Ian Wright, and is hopeful that he can play his way into the hearts of fans by doing likewise.

Comparisons have been made in some quarters between the record signing and the second highest scorer in the history of Arsenal, and speaking on the tour of Australia the 26 year old said he hopes that he can live up to them.

“I know about Ian Wright very well,” he said. “I’ve never seen him play but if I am compared to him that is great.

“If I have a career where fans think of me like they do about Ian Wright then I’ll be very happy.”

Wright was 28 when he joined the Gunners from Crystal Palace and ended up with a total of 185 goals from 288 games.

Lacazette is hopeful that he can harness the quality of his teammates to replicate his record in France which saw him notch 37 goals last season alone.

“With the other players in the team, there are very high levels so it is a great opportunity for me to improve,” he said.

“I have arrived at a very special club.”

Heavenly Chapecoense

He can Wright his history at the club.

Chippys chip

More than he will ever know.

Kai -malayan gunner

If he said so but why did he signed for atletico if he loves arsenal so much? Was it because no bid from us?

Samuel Adams

You speaking my mind. Dude confesses love for Arsenal after we became only his second choice. We surely wouldn’t have gotten him if not atlet’s ban. I feel these players are just loyal and says they’ve been angling for a move yet first preferred another option

Pedant

Get close to Wrighty and you will be a legend.

Am Alex and am a Gooner

You are goddamn Wright

Mesut Popped

Hope he’s Wright footed

Chippys chip

We can dream.

GFSammy

Laca Wright signing!

The retired mbappe

Can he curve out opportunities for himself is my question. I don’t doubt his finishing abilities through the YouTube reels as he seems to be able to finish chances created by the team.

We need a direct free kick threat too. If not just let Xhaka rip one into the wall. Eventually someone will duck like song and nasri did against Alex.

Still. Hope he’s great for us

Alexis has been known to score a few free kicks

and Cazorla

Heavenly Chapecoense

RVP was great at that in his early years.

The Kenyan Mbappe ??

Is Alexis or Cazorla for that matter a threat as coutinho, sigurdson and or ex westham Marseille traitor.

Rvp and fabregas are the last players I recall who before they took their freekicks there was that extra confidence. We don’t even try to hit low or roll it on for a proper belter.

His dribble seems slow to me when he looks for close control. What that means to me is he’s capable of making a bit of space when he’s in the box to let off a shot, but is not capable of penetrating with the ball (though I’ve seen some highlights of him shrugging off a defender in a footrace, so that was nice). That’s fine, though; his job will be to harass the backline, and Alexis’ and Ozil’s job is to get the ball to him while he’s doing that.

Damn I miss Wrighty. I remember being outside Highbury at Lee Dixon’s testimonial against Real Madrid, and wrighty managing to open a window and throwing half the teams kit out the window to us fans below haha.
Ian WRIGHT WRIGHT WRIGHT!!!
I wonder if Alex LA-CA-ZETTE could work as a simple chant, as a tip of the hat to wrighty as well?

Goonerink

Laca-zette zette zette! Flows better imho

JustBrowsing

Good stuff, I agree 🙂 cant wait to see him play.

Alex

Personally, I’m looking forward to his first assist from Xhaka, allowing us to revel in “BOOM Xhaka-Laca”

Merlin\'s Panini

I want us to sign Mbappe so we can all sing that stupid Hanson song.

He’s already got a chant:

Remember Blogs’ podcast with Ian Wright? That was so awesome. Ian is still a true Gunner and I’m sure he’ll be giving the new guy some tips.

Henry clicked into gear after Keown showed a him a video of Wrightys goals apparentely. Lets hope he is shown that and Henrys too.

I think Lacazette has a bit of Aguero in him too. He’s a more mobile option that’s efficient in front of goal. AND we need it if Alexis leaves. I think Lacazette is also felxible and like Alexis he is a quasi-striker who can also play off of either Giroud or Welbeck from a wide position particularly if we can revert back to 4-2-3-1. We need tactical flexibility and Wenger has alluded that at some point he wants to be able to switch between 3-4-3 and 4-2-3-1. Between the formations, there may be bias toward different players as options. I… Read more »

Definitely reminds me of Aguero more than anyone

Wrightys a complete one off. There will never be another. Sure, T scored more and a one off too and there will never be another Henry but now at last we have a striker who, if he can get near those two, will be another.

Sir Henry Norris\'s Brown Envelope

I don’t think I’ve seen anybody who had the desire that Wright had. It was as if his life depended on scoring goals
