Gibbs sends Arsenal thank you as he joins West Brom

Having been an Arsenal supporter since he was a child, and after joined the club in 2004 at the age of 14, Kieran Gibbs today left after 229 appearances to sign for West Brom.

The England international is now 27, and has signed a 4 year deal with the Baggies, but used his Twitter account to send a message of thanks to the club he spent so many years at.

“First I would like to say how delighted I am to sign for West Brom,” he said.

“It has been an amazing journey to play for my childhood club since I was 14. I would like to thank Arsene Wenger for giving me the chance to start my career and fulfil a dream.

“Thank you to all the fans, the Arsenal staff and especially my teammates who have been there during the special moments and have helped me through some tough times.

“Now it’s time for the next chapter with West Bromwich Albion and …” blah blah, we don’t need to read the rest.

As we said earlier, best of luck to him at his new club, coincidentally where he had one of his most memorable moments in an Arsenal shirt just a few short years ago.

Good luck Gibbo

punter

whata tackle

David C

that tackle was awesome! I also really loved the goal line clearance against Hull when we were 2-0 down in the FA Cup final of 2014 (I think).

Swagman

Yes I was right behind that goal line clearance. It looked like a definite third goal and probably stopped us from losing the game. In hindsight it also went a long way in enabling Wenger to sign a three year contract extension.

Hermitian

get ahhht while you can, Gibbo!

Gooooonnnaaaaa

He may not have reached the level we would have hoped but has always been dedicated to the club and never once complained about a lack of game time. Loved the guy and I sincerely wish him all the best.

Martin

He did reach the level we hoped. Won 10 England caps and was until his injury the best English left back.

Ben Rivers

Cant be voted down, all true. When monreal was used as a cb gibbs was doing well then even.but when the cbs were fit arsene moved monreal across again and that was it.

CechMate

I’ve been saying this for a long time – I think Arsenal’s way of play hasn’t adapted to changing times and has resulted in damaging a lot of our players’ future. We’re too soft and hold the ball a little longer than we should which results in a lot of nasty tackles and injuries to our players. Times have changed, football has become fast, physical and referees have become more tolerant, so either we should start passing fast or prepare to play differently instead of building up slowly, keeping possession and trying to find split passes. This is one of… Read more »

What a classy guy, good luck for the future

Carlos _ Santana

Champ! Hope he rocks it with them baggies ?

Wenger\'s coat zipper

Good luck, Ox! Wish you all the best.

It\'Sanogo-al

HA!

Corona X

Don’t you mean Hamilton?

A P

Best wishes, Gibbo. You lived a dream of many Arsenal fans.

Terry Neill - never again

What a Gent. A refreshing reminder of what old school football was all about. Good luck with the chav Kieran. BTW; Gazidis out.

cagooner

Gazidis is just irrelevant. Wenger and Kronke out.

Northerngooner

All the best, Gibbo

Jack

Good luck Gibbs

By the way, if Liverpool sign Lemar then Wenger is going to look like a right mug after saying Monaco have closed the door.

Xhaka Demus, no pliers

I think he outdid himself looking like a mug with the way he “organised” the team on Sunday

Mentor

By that he meant we aren’t paying 70milion for lemar so basiclly wenger closed the door himself

KongoKim

Good Luck to him! I remember well his equalizer gainst Spuds 2-3 years ago when he come as a substitute and everyone in the pub went mad because we were one down and he was the last substitute and came in for a winger. Never moaned, always did his duty! wba is lucky to have him!

kaius

Woah almost forgot about that. We’d been outplayed up to that point, what a huge goal.

Cheers for everything Kieran. We leaned heavily on team players like him while we were paying for the Emirates, and this guys deserves special recognition.

MaidenMatt

That tackle….amazing. all the best Gibbo

eternalflamini

I’m at the point where I’m questioning whether any of our defenders will end up looking brilliant at a different club…

Lula

Me too.

Used to be players who left didn’t do so well. I think we may see the opposite now.

abc

Bye Ox!

Con

Could’ve done with a few tackles like that at the weekend. Hmmm…

Graham

Good luck to him. A class guy and a shame more footballs don’t follow his example

Wengers Coat Pocket

Good luck!

Cape Town Gooner

Nice lad. Good luck to him.

50 shades of Andy Grey

Best of luck to you Gibbs, always someone who seemed like he tried his best for the club. A humble servant of the club til the end, a man with class.

Hope to see him become a regular for WBA and return back to the England fold.

Patrick

Well done Gibbsy, that’s the way it should be done. Best of luck at WBA.

Clock End 20

Geezer. Good luck Gibbo.

ozil gummidge

Good luck at WBA Gibbo! Class act

Indian Gooner

Good luck Gibbo! That was Pat Rice’s last game as our assistant manager in the video. I think Steve Bould ever since he took up the job at Arsenal has only fucked us up… Pat Rice actually did a better job with the likes of Andre Santos, Djourou and Squillaci leading our back line. Are we better now than we were back then? On paper yeah.. way better but on the pitch I don’t think so. Fire Steve Bould at least for fuck sake and bring in someone who has got some better ideas on how to set up the… Read more »

Bendtner\'s ego

Are you saying that pat Rice put the training cones in place better than Bouldy?

Because that’s about all the input Arsene will tolerate.

Arsene chooses the new signings
Arsene decides the tactics (or lack thereof)
Arsene picks the starting XI (what a joke that was on Sun)

Notice the theme here?

Only thing I can’t understand is what Vik Akers is telling the players before they get subbed in. Any theories here?

bob davis

Never come complained when he wasn’t playing, just got his head down and got on with it. Stay injury free and don’t play too good against us.

Drew

A lot of this current squad could learn a thing or two about how to be a professional from Gibbo. Top lad and really underrated if you ask me.

The Ghost of Peter Storey

I preferred his goal against Sp*rs.

Good luck to him.

COYG

It is a shame that people like LeGrove inhabit this planet. imagine sending a hateful message to a departing player that was nothing but respectful to the club and it’s fans

Geefive

All the best, Kieran!

SeanJuba

Class act. One final request – please curl out a big one on Pulis’ desk.

Laughing Stock

I’ll get thumbed to fuck here no doubt but I’ll be interested to see how he improves under a proper coach. By now he should’ve been a pretty damn fine full/wing back and perhaps Pulis can get him up to that level.

Martin

Earned 10 England caps and became the best English left back under Aw. Injuries set him back sadly.

Arseblood

Scored nearly as many goals as the Ox!

Pires7

All the best!

This guy never complained. And he was good. Even when he played only sporadically, I was never anxious about his performance when I read his name on the teamsheet.

adgonner

Thanks Gibbo! You were always my first choice!

Uncle Ben(dtner)\'s Pat Rice

How about that goal line clearance against Hull eh?
Thank you for ending our trophy drought kind sir and wish ya all the best.

Twisted cuntloks

Good. Luck Gibbsy.
You have been unfortunate with injuries at Arsenal. Without those you would be looking at one of the highest transfer fees for a left back in the world.

Andre Marriner

I though The Ox was joining either Chelsea or Liverpool, this is a surprise.

Francis

Best of luck Kieran at your new club, thanks for your service

Weirdbowski

I get some of the criticism of other players (I usually disagree, but see the points)
with Kieran I don’t remember one sulky newspaper piece or dubious rumour.
I have nothing but the best of hopes and good memories.

Merlin\'s Panini

Always been a reliable if unremarkable player. Thanks Gibbo. Good luck to him and I hope the regular game time doesn’t result in injuries again as it used to.

Martin

You have a short memory. Was the best best English left back before his injuries and played 10 times for England.

Tungor Adams

exactly what he needed, to good to remain a back up, all the best to you Gibbs

Cesar

People are saying he didn’t fulfill his potential, but that is partly due to the bad management at the club. Who beside Giroud would you say has completely fulfilled their potential at Arsenal under Wenger? Injury or not.

DB_10

Please don’t see this as an “AKB” comment but as you asked – in years gone by Henry, vieira, pires, ljungberg, sol, toure are some that come to mind.
In recent years alexis and kos. Mismatch in ratio since we moved to the Emirates.

shokim

All the best in your career, Gibbo! Model Gunner.

What are they smoking...

Straight into fpl team imho

odalgooner

Thank you, Gibbs. You seem an honest man, a hard worker, and even though circumstances have seen you move away, you’ll always be one of us.
Thank you for your service to your club, and thank you for carrying yourself with dignity, even when walking out the door. An example to follow.

CJay

such a classy player. i’ll miss seeing him in the Arsenal colors.

Tasmanian Jesus

Good player, good man.
Good luck!

Vedant

Nothing beats Szczesny’s last words..

Jonah

This is how you behave when you’re leaving a club. No acrimony. No fuss. No ‘leaked’ stories. That’s why I wish him all the best. I’m not betting against him getting back into the international set up with some actual defensive coaching. Good luck Gibbo, but not too much, my Dad’s a Wolves fan!

Gary mcintosh

Good luck mate and do your best .We will miss you mate

Stretch

Far better player than Monreal will ever be.
Should have always been a starter and still in the first team.
