Petr Cech admits he’s had his eye on the upcoming fixture with Liverpool for a while, hoping the occasion will mark his 200th Premier League clean sheet.
The veteran keeper kept his ninth clean sheet of the season, only Manchester United’s David De Gea has more, in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United at the weekend and hopes Friday’s showdown at the Emirates will see him add to his tally.
“A few weeks ago, I hoped that, with so many games coming up before Christmas, that the Liverpool game would be the one where I could actually get the 200th, so it’s going to plan,” Cech told Arsenal.com.
“Hopefully we can get a win and obviously the clean sheet, but the win will be more important.”
Cech is way out in front in the all-time Premier League clean sheet list; he currently has 199 (162 for Chelsea, 37 for Arsenal), which is 30 more than David James.
The Liverpool match would be the perfect match to achieve it.
A clean sheet and a win will be perfect indeed.
Imagine if he did get it against Liverpool. It will be remembered as the “Petr Cech” game, the same way this year’s FA Cup final was the “Mertesacker” game.
Does anyone know who has the all time record for clean sheets? Not just in the Premier League era

Beat Liverpool and I could not care less about the clean sheet. A 10-9 victory will be fine by me, although my heart may not agree!
I think we will win, but a clean sheet for either team with our/their defence & attack looks a tad unlikely.
That’s it for the clean sheet then.
I’m stunned that we have the 2nd most clean sheets in the league. I had the feeling our defence is catastrophic this season.
Teams either score none, or plenty.
Cant quite put my finger on why but for some reason I have a feeling it wont be this week. Just a hunch
Liverpool is very good going forward.
