Mkhitaryan: Thierry Henry made me love Arsenal

Henrikh Mkhitaryan says that joining Arsenal is a dream come true, and that he’s determined to make his mark on the club in the years to come.

The Armenian international almost became a Gunner in the summer of 2016, but that deal fell through and he joined Manchester United instead where he has suffered a difficult time under the insufferable wankladle that is Jose Mourinho.

The much talked about swap deal with Alexis Sanchez was made official this evening, and the 29 year old spoke in glowing terms about his new club.

“I’m very happy that we could finish this deal and I’m very happy to be here,” he said.

“It’s a dream come true because I’ve always been dreaming of playing for Arsenal. Now that I’m here, I’ll do my best for this club to create history.

“I always loved the way Arsenal played, and the way that Arsene Wenger was managing the team. He had a lot of young players, they were doing very good, and of course I was in love with the game of Thierry Henry.

“I loved the way he played and maybe that was the reason to support Arsenal.”

The new boy can’t play in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final 2nd leg, having played in the tournament for Man Utd, but he’ll be in line to make his debut against Swansea in the Premier League next Tuesday.

Here are his quotes from 2009 when he first expressed his desire to play for Arsenal one day.

Henry was an inspiration for everyone when he played.
His punditry, on the other hand…

Sancheezy

He is also an inspiration for thise who want to leave the club too ? Im looking at you Alexis Sanchez Sanchez

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

At least it was clear to all, he left for glory not for money.

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

His punditry is spot on. Wenger is doing exactly what he said. Just after he said Giroud needed help meaning he lacks quality a bit, Wenger tried to put Walcott upfront and it failed. Wenger then used Sanchez upfront and now trying to sign Aubameyang. I bet Wenger is always listening to his comments.

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

I even forgot to mention Wenger signed Laca.

Fuhgedaboudit

Hasn’t beed working too well listening to Henry if that is the case.

Mayor McCheese

Can’t wait to see what the Arsenal Gent calls him!

Henry McIntyre?

yen

It’s Henry MacMillan, nickname: The Onside Scorpion! (saw it on twitter already)

Mayor McCheese

Excellent! Always thought Arsenal needed a Scotland international to round things out.

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

Somebody here already coined perfectly: Mickey Tarzan.

Goontang

Thierry Henrik?

Kanonier

Arsenal is making me love U

spinner

Wasn’t 100% on Miki but just read his quotes from 2009 – now I’m glad we’ve signed him!

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

If Giroud remains, how many scorpions kicks per game will we get ? We now have the two lords of scorpion kicks.

Ted E.

I feel a “Sign Rene Higuita!” campaign coming on!

Punter

Me too! Hope he soon discovers his form.

Big T

Dream haaa!!!

In Arse We Trust

Your dream has been realized. Top 4 is a trophy.

Cdm995

Don’t care about any of this crap. Just want to know his shirt number. 😉

santori

PR ho hum. There’s a big difference as well between De Bruyne and Salah improving after leaving Mourinho and Mhykitarian. Both are much younger, cos they will improve. All this nonsense about Alexis and Pep being able to improve him. Face it, at 29yrs, these players are complete. Going for the money is fair enough but Alexis also rightly knows we are not buying well enough and are doing patchy jobs (Mhykitarian point in case) Its not as if we want Mhykitarian. He is forced upon us by the agent or we have no deal with Alexis. We then let… Read more »

Voldermort

Bang on santori. We have no plan but can only hope we make the best of a badly handled situation and that our new boy feels he has something to prove to the world.
The big problems of defence and midfield will still exist and until we address these problems seriously we will continue to concede and chase games.
But their is hope that a few signings could refresh the squad and maybe make us refocus.
Wenger however remains and that elephant in the room isn’t going anywhere soon.

caligunner

No Mhki wasn’t forced upon us lol We could have just taken cash value and bought another player instead

A P

Rely on younger players, and people say the club is not strengthening. Buy older players, and its a quick fix.

KW gooner

Bergkamp was 30 somethkng and honestly

kaius

Was legit terrified when Utd signed him, hope he gets back in his Dortmund groove again because I remember facing him in the Champions League a couple of times and he was almost unstoppable.

ForeignGooner

When did you face him in the champions league?

Goonerest

ForeignGooner…..how could you not remember the great Kaius/Mkhitaryan champions league semi final battle of 1908?

kaius

I was one-nil up in the first leg but then it all went pear shaped.

I took a shot after the whistle had gone, got a red card and was suspended for the second leg. We lost 24-1 on aggregate.

“It was close before the red card.”

Cultured determination

He will once we get aubameyang. Synamic due reunited.

Times Ahead

I hope Henry doesn’t talk you out of staying like a recent player whose name escapes me….

Mayor McCheese

Henry is part of the reason Sanchez joined United. Henry is part of the reason Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal.

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

Hermitian

Yes, and the Lord sits next to Jamie Redknapp on match day Saturdays.

Mayor McCheese

A shame. He needs to assume his destined place at the right hand of Bergkamp.

Redknapp is a false idol.

Goonerest

I love the Arseblog news comment section…..those 3 replies have got me laughing like a lunatic

Jack WilXhaka

Comment of the day! Please take a bow sir!

Gooner Mac

Just watched his highlights a a Dortmund player…..looks excellent all rounder…..will fit in perfectly with a fluid front 5……like the good old days of Bergkamp et al

ramgooner

Meanwhile, Sanchez says a conversation with Thierry played a part in convincing him to switch clubs. Henry is being a prick these days. Hope we prove him wrong.

Mrs Maitland-Niles

I wouldn’t take Sanchez at his word necessarily tbh

kolokolo

Well, that is not really what he said.

“I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn.”

What if they had the conversation 4 years ago? Or was it that conversation that prevent the club from giving him a contract two years ago? Do not look for a scapegoat.

And Henry was a prick for saying what everybody now knows for sure, there were a lot of disdain regarding Alexis in the dressing room. Everybody could see it.

Hermitian

May the day come when we will swap Dan Crowley for Salah, and make the scousers think it is a good idea 🙂

Hermitian

…and may you make it two UEFA cups on the trot, Henry.

VintageFuzz

They just lost to Swansea and I’m in stitches! Schadenfreude! Sorry, didn’t know where else to put this 😀

Hermitian

🙂

Only five points away now. Seems like Henrikh brough us some luck!

VintageFuzz

What makes it better was Chamberlain was partly at fault for the goal… I’m a horrible person 😀

David Hillier\'s luggage

We’d need to re-sign Crowley from Willem II first…

Dial square

Welcome to The Arsenal, the manager here may make a few decisions that baffle you, but on the plus side, at least he’s a gentleman and not a complete cunt..

Daniel Messenger

That comment has made my day.

Runnings

Can’t wait to see Wenger getting the best out of him as he always does with good players. Excited times ahead.coygs

Skinnyarse

So Arsenal wanted him before but he chose Manure, and now they got rid of him he loves Arsenal?

Goldencannon

It’s funny how things change- now Henry is telling players to leave

Hi-brid

Oh Mkhi you’re so fine,
You’re so fine you blow my mind,
Hey Mkhi! Hey Mkhi!

Mrs Maitland-Niles

Henry convinced Sanchez to leave so Mkhitaryan could join

ramgooner

Would have been nice if Thierry had convinced M’bappe in the summer but, nah fuck Henry(The Pundit). Henry went from being alongside the likes of Dennis to sitting next to Graeme Souness.

PBM

Our midfield could do with a player like souness was….

Little Mozart

Haven’t announced his squad number yet, which suggests we may be reserving the number 7 for the other potential new boy. That’s making me motor excited than it should be.

Thoroughly pleased with Mkhi on all accounts.

Fireman Sam

I’m motor excited too mate

Shazam

This coming from the guy that was against the move in the first place. I don’t believe this. I’m salty about this transfer.

Ausdrexler

Did he actually say he didnt want to come here.. OR was it his knobjockey of an agent?

GreekGunner

Welcome to Arsenal Miki!

Anonymarse

Still trying to figure out what a wankladle is … and what you are supposed to do with it

confused squillaci

I’d like to start incorporating “wankladle” into my everyday vocabulary. You truly are a poet, blogs.

King_bilo

Oh please… Let’s not start this relationship with lies Miki.. We know you never handed in a transfer request. You got paid out of your current contract when you could have easily asked for a transfer and the deal would have been done 3 weeks ago.. You also could have signed for us years ago but you chose united. And now this is your dream? Let’s just keep it real. We pay, you play

Hermitian

” You also could have signed for us years ago but you chose united”

I think you’re forgetting where we were sitting relative to United a few years ago. We had all the best midfielders, remember? Santi, Jack, Ramsey, SuperTom, Özil, etc.

United had Mata and the likes of Carrick.

Terry+T

I’m not convinced. All this ‘I loved Arsenal as a boy talk’. Why are so many fans so gullible. These players don’t care about the clubs they play for.

Ausdrexler

Personally, I will give him some time to prove his worth to the team rather then slag him off before he has even played a game for The Arsenal.

santori

Pundits going to love this result.

Right up their alley.

Klopp and his modern rock and roll football (never mind Rock and Roll is actually 70 years old). Beat City to help us deny them invincibles bragging rights one day. Lose to bottom place Swans the next.

Bought Van Dyke for 75m, revitalised the Ox apparently…what’s going on?

Puts us 5 points off still to 4th.

Go on pundits, lets see you analyse the Klopp revolution. Jumping up and down like a git on the sidelines quite obviously what ‘inspires’ players to play better footy.

COYG

😀

caligunner

Why do you always have to bring others down to make yourself feel good. Klopp is an excellent manager. Liverpool isn’t close to being great. Everyone knows it. He’s doing an excellent job with the players he has.

Its Heavy Metal football btw.

David Hillier\'s luggage

Yeah, but if you go by the press & pundits you’d have thought Liverpool were not only the best side in the league, but cured cancer, brokered world peace and found Shergar in the Aintree carpark.

Shitbird

Welcome Mkhi, score some goals, especially against ManU, and nobody will care how you got to Arsenal.

Fireman Sam

For me this is a very good result. Sanchez had become a liability. Talented but greedy and careless.

Now we have a player who also has talent but who will hopefully fit better in the team.

Cameron

Wankladle!!!
Ha Ha Ha!!!!!
Superb description!!!!
Thank you so much 🙂

gooner+44

next week we sign his brother Veggy

henry

One comes for henry, other leaves as henry. Oh henry!

Cultured determination

I always knew his scorpion kick was onside.

Vernazza

Bollocks.

mo974

So the club knew Mkhi has been a fan from teenage years and it took the club almost ten years to get him and it’s not even the club that suggested the swap deal but his agent !! Anyway good luck and hope he rediscover his Dortmund form. Integration should be easy with the rest of the team he is quite fluent in english , french, german. Makes us ” For me Formidable again ”!
