Arsene Wenger deployed his two new signings against Everton today, and they helped us to a 5-1 win at the Emirates this evening. Aubameyang got a goal and Mkhitaryan ended up with three assists.
As you’d expect, the manager was quizzed about the duo afterwards, and this is what he had to say.
On Aubameyang
I think that the quality of his movement was excellent, the quality of his finishing was excellent. But he is not completely at his best physically. He still has some work to do physically.
He looks always to give a problem to the defenders by his movement. I feel that once he is in front of you, it is very difficult to catch him back.
I liked the quality of his movement, I must say. He is always looking to go in to spaces and it is very difficult for defenders to cover. When we know him better and understand him better, I think he will be more dangerous.
On Mkhitaryan’s debut and his time at Man Utd
He is a good link player and he works very hard as well, you know. Overall, I think he looked well-accepted by the rest of the team and was understanding very well how we want to play.
He didn’t play there so I was not too surprised. He was not playing at Manchester United and they got one more player who plays in a similar position with Sanchez.
Is it the best debut he’s seen?
I do not know, I have not exactly the 1,300 games in my memory but there are some good debuts. I don’t know if that’s better, the only thing I can say is that it was a convincing debut that shows that he has the level to play with us.
How did the new guys do in your eyes? Rate them on our players ratings system here.
So refreshing to not hear about naïveté, nervousness or handbrakes. COYG!
Really good quality movement requires the handbrake to be disabled.
Good to see the pace that the new guys add to the team. Love the fact that auba was constantly running behind the defense. Haven’t seen us play that fast in quite a while. Maureen really didn’t know how to use mhki, he looked like real quality who didn’t turn the ball over 30 times. If this keeps up, I’ll forget about that other #7 by the time spring gets here.
Which 7?
I’ll never forget about Tomas Rosicky ?
Let me top that, i will never forget about Robert Pires .
Liam Brady? Anyone!?
Rocky?
Might need to update my name, now…
Pires!!
Speaking of which, that picture with those two and the way they played reminded me of the Pires -Henry era.
Thomas!!
Its not the pace. I didn’t see too much more pace than usual. Neither are that quick Aubameyang is no Henry. We were still too slow on the counter in the second half. What I saw was more movement. Aubameyang and Mhkitaryan are already back in sync with each other which is very encouraging. What we did well was also move the ball much quicker. Plenty of one touch incisive passing not just by the new boys but Ozil, Granit, Iwobi (plenty) and Ramsey. You can run faster than a pass. We need more of these lightning quick passing and… Read more »
Mkhi looks to have Özil’s class and Sanchez’s industriousness. Beautiful love child bastard ? (yeah it’s been one game)
HM7 = TR7 – reincarnation..
I wish Tomas Rosicky had 10 more injury free years to play for us….what a player! Him and Santi too! It’s players like these who make u fall in love with the game.
Moh on Arsenal Fan TV speaking a lot of sense today.
Don’t get carried away.
As good as attack was today, still plenty of issues to resolve in midfield engine sustaining effort through 90minutes and defensive issues also still there (playing dangerously out form defense through our middle…why?)
Still early days.
Lets see if this can be replicated against Spurts next week.
High risk high reward I guess. Quite common for the modern CB I think now
Mkhi was fantastic and Auba looked sharp!
Still reckon we could accommodate Lacazette somewhere… maybe swap Iwobi out?
Our forward line is so fluid these days that I don’t think it matters to much if Auba and Lacazette interchanged positions.
Aubameyang is F-ing dangerous. End of. I noticed about ten opportunities where the far side fullback could have sprung him immediately on the counter- like a glorious non racist Vardy with way better hair who plays for us.
Mikhitaryan. 3 quality assists and a willingness to get down. It has to have been his best game on an English team.
Let’s not forget how shit Everton were. Hats off to that dickish walrus pay off merchant for making it easy. Honorable mention to his gum. Hope it tasted like day old piss
All positive today, couldn’t have asked for much better really. However, the proof will be how they can impact on our away form as that will decide if we can get anywhere in the league this season.
Mkhit really showing the shades of Legend Tomas Rosicky. I hope he carries on this.
What happened to players needing time to settle and adjust to the league? Eh Wenger?
“1300 games in my memory but….” – Wenger one upping himself but diplomatically complimenting a Manure or rather, another one of Maureen’s fawesome rejects. Why isn’t this man a politician/benevolent dictator?! ?
Jose Reyes debut against Chelsea is possibly the most dramatic I can ever remember despite his career never quite matching the sensational start.
Ian Wright’s wasn’t bad either though.
Pennant is surely in with a shout. Especially when he was apparently out until 6am the day of the game.
Freddie? That was some introduction!
Dunno about debuts but at least Auba emphatically showed that the charge that all his goals come from tap-ins is unfounded.
They were tap ins because his movement to get there and be at the right place, and the cross across the box, the same types that mikhi played to rambo. We could do with more crosses like those.
Workrate stood out for me. How many times was he picking the ball close to left back, or chasing back in midfield.
He always seems to be in the right place at the right time both defensively and offensively. Made life easier for Xhaka, you can see from the stats that Xhaka felt more able to make tackles.
