Nelson lands Bundesliga award

Reiss Nelson has been rewarded for his fine form in the Bundesliga with the Rookie of the Month award for October.

The England under-21 international netted three times and grabbed an assist in three appearances for Hoffenheim during the month and has since added two more goals to take his total tally for the season to six.

As things stand, Kylian Mbappe is the only teenager in Europe’s top five leagues to outscore the Arsenal loanee.

While he may be banging in the goals for his club, coach Julian Nagelsmann has stressed that the attacker still has much to improve upon. Indeed, the youngster has only been trusted with a start on four occasions so far.

Back home, Unai Emery has confirmed he’s keeping tabs on Nelson’s progress with a view to the player being integrated into his squad next year.

“With Reiss, we are very happy with him at the moment,” the Spaniard said last week. “We follow him every match. We are thinking how he can help us in the future.”

Good on The Admiral, long may his good form continue

SharpasFc

That’s one in the eye for anyone that doubted his talent!

Man

If we get him back in January, is that a half Nelson?

p0lowww

I got to say, that is a killer nickname! And I’m French!!
I really hope he comes back at the end of this season to become an Arsenal legend over the next decade.

Andreas

I am not sure. Do people think we should recall him in January (suppose we could) ?

all bernd out

I really don’t think we should, even if we could. He’s clearly progressing at a far greater rate over there than he would on the Arsenal bench.

clins

agreed. in the long run i think its best for everyone involved that nelson stays there till the end of the season. nagglesman is a coach that can help him fulfill his potential. look at what he did to gnabry.after one whole season under him and now at bayern he is a different player. we are not going to compete for the league this year. next year atleast we have a player we know we can count on as a new signing

Andreas

Thanks for the replies/votes. I agree that it is more sensible to let him continue his fine development in Germany. We will however, be somewhat short of wingers with Wellbecks injuries.
Who do you suppose will fill the gap left by Wellbeck? Maybe Eddie Nketiah will benefit from more games. Hopefully

Owl faced Deeney's cojones

Ramsey out, Nelson in.

Different positions

Owl faced Deeney's cojones

You know Ramsey’s position ? I don’t !

David C

haha! careful, you guys might anger Blogs 🙂

ramgooner

Sell him for big bucks and invest in first team. We need to sign top players and go for PL and CL. We need another winger/striker who can challenge Auba/Mkhi/Ozil/Laca.

Someone like Reus(Similar to him in playing style) would be awesome. We need players who’ll keep the opposition defenders guessing.

I would sell Ramsey and EL Neny and get a new winger/striker and another CM like Torreira.

GYWE

We should also save just before playing a game as well so we can quit halfway through if things aren’t going our way.

Jokes?

There needs to be a Comment of the Week award.

p0lowww

This is too short-sighted in my opinion. Why sell our most promising, homegrown talent to purchase an older, more injury-prone version of him?
In just a couple years, he could become something very special for the Arsenal.

Lucas Sam

This is real life not fifa

Lord Bendnter

Glad he wasn’t sent out to West Brom, as was the norm of the previous regime.

KongoKim

oh cmon…regime?! really?! i always felt like people at the club, espcially wenger, cared about the players and their future. and sometimes even “sacrified” something for the club, by letting them go, just because it was the best for this human being at that time. from the last years Gnabry comes to mind.
But yeah, Bundesliga over Championsship!

Andreas

We did have some people benefitting from loans. Bendtner in Birmingham, Song and Coquelin in Charlton. Szczesny in Brentfordas well. Of course not everything works out and I agree that Gnabry should not have gone to Wes Brom and Pulis. but the idea that oure previous loaness was sent out in some careless manner seems far fetched

Andy Mack

Coquelin did OK in the Bundesliga on the rare occasions he was played in his correct position (not a winger or attacking MF) and fit.

Hulk

Leave him in Germany for the rest of the season and let Eddie get his chance to fill in for Wellbeck.

Our young Players should look to go on loan to Germany, Holland, Portugal and maybe even Belgium instead of our lower leagues.

Irrational Gunner

Agreed. Also leaves our lines of communication open with the Bundesliga, which is definitely a seller’s league.

santori

Eddie slightly different though.

He is more an apex predator.

Nelson provides width and ability to dribble in from right, give an assist.

Not the same animal.

Andy Mack

Eddie is different but he’s was MOTM in the England U21s as a winger against… was it Scotland… so he’s pretty good as a winger.

A Different George

I watched a very little of Hoffenheim’s last match, and when Reiss came on, the announcer mentioned that he was scoring something like a goal every 65 minutes (don’t remember the exact number). Then he scored after two minutes, so I guess that average went way down.

A goal every 53 mins I believe. Lord Bendtner watch out.

santori

But the hype is on Jadon Sancho instead. Which is perfectly fine, less pressure on our chap.

Dave Cee

To be fair..Sancho really is quite good. Pity we didn.t get him when he left City but he has really has done well for himself at BvB and prob for the best he.s out of the way in Germany amd can develop without the ragtops hyping and destroying him

daniel

quite intrigued to see them play together, guess we should see that in England shirts at some point

A Different George

The little I’ve seen of Sancho, he seemed to terrify defenders (it was only Bayern, though).

Andy Mack

Sancho is very good, but still not good enough to justify a starting slot in a top PL team, so better for him to join BvB.

santori

This loan is better for Nelson (and the team long term ) than for us. We could well do with another player like Nelson to complement Iwobi’s ability to engage and pull opponents out of position this season. That said, we need to find alternative solutions this season (particularly for Rwing) if we should not find players in market this Jan. Any move this Jan will likely depend on Ramsey’s decision and many of the targets may be cup tied for us. One possible idea could be to play AMN at Rwing in tandem with Bellerin just behind (much like… Read more »

sAMa

Really? So AMN is now a winger? You were the ones complaining about Wenger putting players out position and now you want AMN as a winger. I say play AMN is his favourite position which is CM or CDM unless we are short in RB/LB. There will be be opportunities for him to play in cup games so I see no point trying to force him into a position he’s not comfortable with just to give him playing time.

Martin

If you followed our youth team you would know that AMN started as a winger. I think it’s actually a good idea to play him there in a 442 formation with Iwobi play RW. Would love us to play Laca and Auba upfront.

Andy Mack

Although I agree that AMN would be decent going back to being a winger, I prefer AI as LW, so AMN as RW, IMO.

Don’t Forget

I am also thinking of how he can help us in the future..

bdotm

Good to know Nelson and Smith-Rowe know where the net is. Much as I love Iwobi I always feel that’s an area of his game he can improve as an attacking player not named Iniesta
